Does anyone actually drive boats in Free Mode?

I took a jetski way out into the east ocean one time with a bounty on me. A guy in a buzzard flew out to get me and made about 50 passes overhead firing missiles trying to hit me, the whole time I drove in circles with a sticky bomb cocked. Finally he made the mistake of flying too low and I sticky bombed him and sped back to shore. I got to the beach and called merryweather for a chopper and flew away before he could find me on foot and kill me. I got some angry texts after that!

If there was something worth doing on the ocean I'd use boats much more often for a change of pace. Exploring the small islands on the east side of the map is kind of fun but it would be better of you could anchor your boat in place so you don't have to chase it.

Slow Ryders

Well the once free Speeder is now $300,000 plus. So they'll be even less now I suppose...

I call my Speeder in on occasion and roar around the waters. I generally don't get much resistance from other players either. Hell, I had a player text me and ask if I could give him a boat ride. I told him to go passive, wait at the Del Perro beach and he'll get a ride. I cruised over to him, picked him up, and we roared around the ocean for a bit until he had to leave.

No, because there's no point.

Rockstar really should have added underwater exploration to Online, not just Single Player.

I saw a hacker use warp drive in a dingy once.

Anyhow its funny you should ask because I just happen to have a sailing route that takes me right by Fort Zancudo just before sunrise; its quite beautiful really... the horizon, the smell of fish fw3;-), the gentle splash of water against the hull, the enveloping flames of the grim reaper. There's nothing quite like the smell of jet exhaust rolling off the water in the early hours, as fighter craft circle the airspace above my boat waiting to each send a friendly missile towards my face in unison akin to musical harmony.

Sometimes if you get the right angle of lighting from the after burn, you can snap a great selfie before you die.

The sea in GTA V is actually quite beautiful. It's a shame R* didn't get us more involved with it.

Scuba diving, underwater deathmatches etc. would be awesome.

It's pretty amazing how much freedom we have in this game when you think about it. At any time you could have players flying a mile above your head or at the bottom of the ocean in a submarine. You may not find it particularly exciting but once in a while it's nice to hop in a plane and get away from the warzone.

It's also fun to hover above the city in a helicopter as high as you can go, and watch the blips on the map approaching you for a kill when in reality you're a mile above their heads. Watching three or four blips run in circles around yours can be amusing. Eventually someone goes through the trouble of getting a lazer to hunt you, and as soon as you hear the missile locking bail out and freefall to safety. That provokes some angry texts too.

Nope. Maybe if R* were to give us Yachts, scuba-diving gear and animals then maybe there would be some use of boats in GTA Online.

As long as there are air vehicles available, boats aren't going to be safe for most players.

Doesn't even have to be lazers or buzzards (or annihilators), it can be any air vehicle with passengers who can fire at others.

Or any other plane with suicidal pilots hellbent on taking you out.

Off-shore destinations would only really require boats to travel to if there was some kind of no-fly zone around them, perhaps in the form of anti-air defenses.

But then, that's the case with other places too. Sure, you can drive to the top of Mount Chiliad, but it's a lot faster to just fly to the top.

The ocean in gta online is even deader than the rest of the game is.

That's the main problem I have with gta online. Go to SP and the city is teeming with life, the forests are filled with animals, the skies have birds, the oceans have sharks.

Then change to online and it's like a ghost town.

The game needs an offshore destination of some use

Indeed. Such a lost opportunity, both in lack of destinations and lack of a maritime culture as stated above. :^:

Boats need a lock-on Phalanx anti-air weapon, given the assholes in aircraft. :colgate:

am krooked

I ride down rivers and sh*t up north in skidoos. I love driving boats around every now and then, or doing little mini heists myself and using a boat as a getaway.

I'm glad boats are in the game, and I wouldnt't mind a faster speed boat, but what we reallly need is fishing\ fishing boat.

An offshore destination would be great. If the consoles could handle an expansion to the map, I'd love for it to be on a separate island than what the game is originally played on. Only way to get to the new area is by sea or air. That'd be great.

I always command the Marquis for a cruise.

Marquis master race.

That sleek styling....that hardwood. What it lack in speed it compensates overwhelmingly in style.
