Wolfhuman
It may sound silly, but do some names of npc have a reason behind them. For example, Big smoke. Is his last name: "smoke'', because he was going to get smoked by CJ? Amanda = A man, da. Da, means in Russia: yes. Therefore: A man, yes. Is she A MAN? YES. Tracey = Trace, getting traced. Micheal wants to know what she does and etc. Niko Bellic = Niko means in Serbian, nobody. People said that he was from, Serbia. And when he arrived in Liberty City he was basically, nobody. Big smoke = Smoke, he was going to get smoked by CJ. Ryder = Riding, driver. He complained about CJ's driving skill. For now, these names come to mind. Do other people have more? theGTAking101
King Kapone
I'm all for creative discussion but your reasonings behind the name choices are a stretch, at best. Ryder and Smoke are common street names, nothing more nothing less. Amanda and Tracey are common Anglo Saxon names. Why is Jimmy named Jimmy? Is he Jimmy because he forgets his car keys and needs to jimmy his way past locks? For that matter, is Franklin Clinton named as such because both names happen to be surnames of famous Americans, Ben and Bill respectively, which is foreshadowing of Franklin's pursuit of the American dollar? Is Trevor Trevor because it sounds cool when he says T-Revor? Is Lamar Lamar because it sounds like Lame-ar, lame being a good go-to word for someone who is naive or inept as is often the case with Lamar and his silly Balla antics.. The list can go on of how silly this is.. The only name in V I could make a case for is Dom because it allows him to run around calling himself The Dominator. 98 in 1

It was a try, but i believe that there is a reason behind Niko's name. In the: "official'' gta wiki, it says that he is Serbian. Like i said, in Serbian: "niko'', means nobody, no one. And it is not so often used in Serbia: "Nikola or Nikolic'', are more used. It makes sense since Niko was a no one when entering Liberty City. From all the names, they picked that one. King Kapone
I'd say you're on to something with Niko's name more than the others. If you review top names for Croatian baby boys you'll find quite a few names that were used in GTA IV. I'd say there's a good chance lists like these were used during development.
