Possible "freeze" fix

I've started putting a desk fan right in front of my PS3 while playing GTA and it definitely seems to have helped. Before this I was getting freezes every 30 mins, now I can play for much longer (haven't timed it but maybe 1+ hrs).

Try it and comment if it worked for you or not, I'm not sure if this actually is working or not so it would help to get other peoples' experiences. Maybe the new updates have caused consoles to heat up more which causes freezes?

Obviously, this would just be a temporary fix until/if R* can fix it

Tbh I think you need to look at where you have placed your PS3. No piece of electronic equipment should need extra cooling for it to function properly. Make sure there is plenty of space around your console to allow hot air to escape effectively. If the console is inside a tv cabinet for example try moving it out of the cabinet so it has more ventilation and it should stop the console getting as hot. Also it wouldn't hurt to vacuum the vents to get rid of any excess dust.

^^ This. And if you were getting freezes every 30 minutes then that's excessive. It does sound like there's a hardware issue there. PS3s (especially old ones) are terrible for heating up when confined even slightly.

i can spend all day playing LoU, RDR, Max Payne or any other game without having a single freeze, its a game coding issue.

 

i remember a couple years back MLB The Show 12, had a similar error after one of the updates.

Well, TBH, I have been doing that from day 1 and I hardly face excessive freezing. Only like once or twice a day

Please explain why I freeze only very rarely. If it was the game it woudl have most likely been fixed by now, I mean it doesn't look good for a company if their product keeps causing consoles to freeze every 5 minutes. Most likely out-dated hardware is to blame, but we'll see if this is confirmed once GTA V/O is released for XboxOne and PS4.

Most of the time it's due to overheating.

 

Make sure there's adequate space around your PS3.

If it hadnt been for my ps3 (Slim one so its not old) freezing once and 6 of my friends in the same labby freezing at the exact same time id believe it could be hardware related. But this many people dont have hardware issues. Much too widespread to be hardware, especially when everyone in a lobby locks up. Plus as someone else mentioned, I can play other games all day long without stopping with no issues of freezing.

 

GTA however has only frozen a hand full of times for me, not as much as others have and its usually when im in lobbies with others, when solo online i have never had this issue
