Putting so much emphasis on the EU is a double-edged sword, but I'm glad 343 is doing it. Halo 4's story was so much better after reading Silentium and finally meeting Jul in Spartan Ops was great. I hope that awesome bastard gets to survive his run-in with Locke.

I think they are not bringing it back, unfortunately. They'll probably hype Warzone as a replacement for Firefight/SpOps. What a shame, SpOps really picked up after the rocky start and the last few episodes were great, even from gameplay perspective. And dem cutscenes.

 

 

 

But that Spielberg-produced show is still happening, right? I heard Nightfall was pretty bad, so hopefully this new one will be more worthy replacement for SpOps.

There's no reason for FireFight to be gone. All they have have to is drop AI in a playspace with the player. That's it.

 

No narrative or unique elements necessary. Just reuse some areas from campaign so the AI paths are already there. Boom.

 

FF added so many hours of playtime to Reach for me.

Interesting. It looks like the "Chief is a traitor" thing may be actually more than mere marketing buzzword.

 

First, the Ready Up Live guy who apparently got his hands on the campaign demo few weeks ago mentioned that the Chief had a vision of Cortana talking about "opening of the Domain". Now, in the E3 demo we got the "keeper of the Domain" and Prometheans apparently being allied with the Chief. And then there is this:

 

 

 

Halsey implies that someone who may be Cortana is a "threat" now and that John is unable to deal with the fact. What if the Didact used what was left of Cortana in the Forerunner network, rebuild her as his ally and then used her to trick John into activating the Guardians and sowing more chaos among the UNSC and Arbiter's Sangheili? Ironically, Gravemind similarly messed with the Didact's mind and emotions to break the Forerunners in the final days of the Forerunner-Flood War.

I assumed the Meridian incident was one of the first Guardian awakenings in the galaxy, since "Cortana" at the end of Blue's opening level talks about how "Meridian is next. Only three days left." or somesuch. Perhaps that's where Chief went AWOL and ONI decided to cover his disappearance up with a misinformation campaign. They can't just openly admit that humanity's greatest hero went rogue and they assembled a hit squad to take him out. Too much pressure from the Colonies for that. No, this way they'll preserve Chief's legacy, while they can also pass the blame for the Guardians on Sangheili or something.

What? Apparently, their missions are longer than an average Osiris mission, but seriously, what.

Pretty excited for this game actually. I know I'm not going to feel the same feelings as when I first played Halo CE & Halo 2 but I'm still excited. And Halo 4 was such a massive let down for me but I was never 'hyped' for it's release, I just picked it up a few days after it dropped.

We don't know yet. I hope he'll be back, he is one of my favorite antagonists. Mainly thanks to Greg Bear's Forerunner trilogy, but even his presence in 4 was rather impressive.

It's set after Escalation, but I don't think getting composed will be enough to keep the Didact down. Even Chief believes he's alive. But you're right, I wouldn't be surprised if he skipped this game and returned only in Halo 6.

Sure he wouldn't need a reason to lie. But he was hit by multiple composers so who knows. As you said, we'll know soon enough.

For anyone that got the digital pre order. Bear with me, it gets a little confusing. If you Pre ordered and pre downloaded Halo 5 before Sept 21st and have not done anything since then, you have a placeholder icon in my Games and apps that is not the full game. The placeholder will say that is 45 or so gigs but the file size is not actually that big. Since it is a place holder, it was simply reserving the space on your hard drive. Here is what i did to see how big the file size actually was. If you have an external hard drive a quick way to test how big the file size actually is, is to move the Halo 5 file to the Internal from the external or vice versa depending on where it is installed; If it takes only a few seconds to Move the file, it is not the right file (because the placeholder is actually only a few hundred MB) if this is the case, you will need to delete the placeholder file by Uninstalling it and re-downloading Halo 5 from your ready to install list. If it takes a couple of minutes to transfer the file from hard drive to hard drive, you should be good. Also, They released the 9 gig day 1 patch yesterday (October 22nd) and if you want it to download you need to have your Xbox on 'Instant on' mode. Otherwise you will have to wait until launch day (Oct 27th) and download it when you launch the game. It will bring the total game size in 'My games and apps' to 54 gigs. If you have your Xbox on 'Instant on' and are not sure if it downloaded the patch. Go to My games and apps and sort the games to "Last Updated" and Halo 5 should be at the front of the list.

 

Hoping that everyone gets the right file and is able to play the game on launch day rather than waiting all day for a pretty hefty 9 gig patch and/or whole 54 gig game download. Even if you have a fast internet connection, the amount of people downloading the patch will make it crawl.
