iNero
Has just been released I’m happy to reveal that “Halo 5: Guardians,” the next installment in the legendary saga of the Master Chief, will launch on Xbox One in fall of 2015. In the tradition of every “Halo” game since its debut in 2001, it is a massive and exciting project. Making a “Halo” game that runs at 60 frames per second, on dedicated servers, with the scope, features and scale we’ve been dreaming of for more than a decade, is non-trivial. It’s a task that we, at 343 Industries, are taking very seriously to ensure we deliver the “Halo” game that fans deserve, and a game that is built from the ground up for Xbox One. http://news.xbox.com/2014/05/games-halo-journey-announcement Full Size Header Edited May 16, 2014 by iNero
HaythamKenway
Female protagonist? I wonder what the blue visor means. If it actually means anything, beyond a cool desing choice. If Cortana comes back and gets a robot body or takes over some Spartan's mind it would be extremely tacky. And yeah, there was the orange (Didact)/blue (Librarian) contrast that was all over the place in 4. 2015 sounds good, it looks like they are taking their time to deliver the best game possible. I hope they learned from 4 and make 5 a little bit more true to Bungie's series. The "scope and scale" bit gives me a bit of a Battlefield impression. I'm all in for more open and sandbox-y campaign (343, give me ODST 2 already, please), but multiplayer? You know, massive maps, 64 players, all that stuff. It could work, I guess, but there would have to be enough small 4 on 4 maps and some classic BTB maps. I really don't want Battlefield: Space Edition. And "giant leap this year"? I'd like to see Halo 2 Anniversary with classic multiplayer, but that wouldn't be much of a leap, would it?

Speculative prediction: Female Spartan to fill Cortana's void as a support character to Master Chief, with some sections of the campaign where she becomes playable. I don't think they can bring Cortana back. It would completely cheapen what they wanted to accomplish with her 'death' in 4, IMO. iiConTr0v3rSYx
I think the game is going to be open world. Excited to see who the blue visored colored spartan is. Has to be a spartan 4. Edited May 16, 2014 by iiConTr0v3rSYx
HaythamKenway
The "blue visor" Spartan has the ONI symbol on the armor. Theory right now is that (s)he's an agent sent to hunt down Chief who's gone AWOL. Good news? It's confirmed that it's not Palmer or Cortana. But apparently, it's not a woman either. The armor looks really misleading then. New Frank O'Connor's blog post up on Waypoint: https://blogs.halowaypoint.com/en-us/blogs/headlines/posts/the-great-journey Nothing much, beyond a new concept art (that architecture doesn't look very Forerunner - could be Sanghelios? And what are those things flying in the background? They remind me of Sentinels from Matrix) and a lot of teasing. Mista J
Rumors of it being open world excite me. All I ask Is classic multiplayer, none of that Halo 4 stuff. iBUCKEYE
IDredMan
I'd like to point something out, Halo 4 spoilers below. The Didact died by falling from orbit. He died. From falling. He fell off the designated area. And died. You probably all knew this was coming... The Didact was killed by The Guardians. Th3MaN1
So what's the story? Master Chief goes into depression because Cortana's dead , and he has a bounty on his head? BTW, try to use the spoiler tags, please. This place reeks of spoilers.
OnceAgainYoungFitzpatrick
Maybe there will be a beta/demo released in 2014 and that's the giant leap? I'd find it hard to believe that the Halo 2 Anniversary is a giant leap. I can't believe we have to wait another year and several months to play the game... HaythamKenway
Speculation Time! 343's representatives once mentioned (a long time ago, actually, just after 4 came out) that they are drawing inspiration for 5 from The Search for Spock. I assume Chief will search for a way to bring Cortana back - also evidenced by the AI chip in his hand in last year's teaser. Cortana was uploaded into Forerunner network in the moment of her death and Chief may be looking for some Forerunner tech (also in the teaser) or there were theories that the Didact would revive her and turn her "evil". 4 also made a strong point of how Chief was essentially a machine - a brainwashed tool used by the military. In 4, we see him "waking up" - from standing up against Del Rio, when he wanted to decommision rampant Cortana and going on his own, against orders to pursue Didact, to contemplating his humanity in final scenes. 5 will probably continue this theme - we see Chief walking alone in the desert, in rugged armor and a cloak. A classic pilgrimage imagery. Another interesting thing I saw yesterday was the contrast between the ONI operative and Chief. One in a modern, state-of-the-art armor, the other in damaged six+ year old "piece of junk". One was handpicked from millions of children and trained to be one of the best soldiers and protectors humanity ever had, the other is probably one of Spartan IV's - a mass-production phase of the Spartan program, a tool used by UNSC to secure its domination in the galaxy. They are both Guardians of humanity, but both flawed. Chief was an indoctrinacted child soldier, the ONI operative works for a shady agency that gives GTA's FIB and IAA a run for their money. Old/New. Original/Replacement. But what I personally find most interesting is the possibility that the desert planet might be Sanghelios. I'm really grasping at straws here, but Sanghelios was heavily featured in two pre-4 novels. Sanghelios is also rich on Forerunner relics. And, every time we saw the desert planet so far, it was barren, but we also saw some functional buildings in the concept art. In one of pre-4 books, ONI looking for a way to wipe out Elites (and literally wipe out the entire race, not just destroy their military). One of proposed methods is poisoning their crop and starving them out. What if they actually carried out this plan and Sanghelios is essentially a post-apocaliptic wasteland now? Just rumors for now, but if this true, then take all me monies!http://www.engadget.com/2014/05/16/halo-the-master-chief-collection/ Now this is a remake/re-release I can get behind. HaythamKenway
@redx165 I'm excited for the story, if not for anything else. 343 messed a lot of things up, but writing, character work and universe building was not one of them. I liked what they have done with the universe since they took over and I also appreciate how they integrated EU into the main series, instead of what Bungie did - ignoring and convoluting it (Reach) or just throwing a couple of random easter eggs here and there (every other game). Bungie's best storytelling was in text-based, optional Terminals and Datapads, which is, honestly, quite sad in a way. Coin

Mista J
I bet if they didn't try their own flavor to the game you'd complain on how they didn't change anything. Single player was great. Multiplayer was alright, but they strayed too far from the actual core of Halo MP. They hardly destroyed it.
