How to fix freezing on online?

Happened to me too game literally froze like 5 times in 1 hour, then I reinstalled the game and deleted patches, and it stopped for a while. Now it happens very rarey.

I also read a topic where the problem was solved with reappling the thermal paste and cleaning the PS3 from dust, because it was overheating. I recommend you to do that, when you have like at least 3-4 year old console. Mine is like 4 years old and I had no paste left . There are several videos on YT how to change that.

I'm no network guru, but I'm more than willing to say the freezing is on Rockstar's end if anything. I've had my game freeze in public,solo, and invite only sessions. My theory on this is that after one of the updates, the servers started acting all funky. Doesn't matter how fast a connection you had, the data packets will come in alright, but coming out of Rockstar's server, there's some packet loss. Enough packet loss that the entire game crashes. Perhaps they should do another shut-down period, and reboot the entire system.

It's 100% Rockstar's end. It's the cloud servers hiccuping in most likelihood.

stupid freezing came from the 1.11 patch,now with 1.13,this problem becomes more worse.

I usally start friend/crew only sesssions and try and keep it below 12 players. Rarely crashes.

5 of us in a Crew session yesterday and 2 of us froze out at precisely the same time.

 

Days where I play for 12 hours with no freezes vs days where it freezes 4 or 5 times.

 

It's not a console issue, it's backend.

 

Not been this pissed off with freezing since BF3 Close Quarters maps.

It's definitely an Rockstar issue but these things helped me.

Make sure there's adequate space around your Xbox/PS3.

 

If you're on Xbox 360, clear your hard drive cache.

I finished with my PS3 freezing, what you can do, in this order, is:

 

Delete patches, then installation (savegames and config not neccesary to be deleted). Turn ps3 off.

 

Go to the recovery menu, and choose "Rebuild database". You will lose playlist and messages only. (to access recovery menu: http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3-Support/How-to-access-the-PlayStation-3-Recovery-Menu/td-p/19195118 )

 

After it reboots, reinstall everything (connected to online, so it installs patches first like it did to me, I have no idea if it works otherwise). When next patch arrives, if freezing comes back (like mine did), repeat these steps.

No. He means the Playlist in the Music section of the XMB. If you've made any sort of playlist and tried this method, it would delete it but you would still keep the songs and other important data.

I was getting sick of the freezing and lagging and searched for a solution. Also got sick of the car engine noise my xbox was making because the play disk was always spinning. I bought a 16gb usb3.0 flash drive and copied my disk to it. This was a fix for the loud disk spinning. But it didn't quite solve the online lagging and freeze ups. There is really no solution to this. It's a rockstar issue not a issue on our side. The SP game never freezes it is only online.

I was thinking about doing the same thing, but there is no point of getting a USB 3.0 if the PS3 doesn't have the USB 3.0 hardware.
