Can constant freezing damage the console?

So this has been bugging me for a while, since everyday at one point or another my PS3 freezes (it's the slim version) while playing GTA online.

Every time I obviously have to restart the console manually by shutting it down with the power button. Can this in any way damage my console?

corrupts the disk over time, could damage the lazer diode.

but don't shut it down, eject the disk and let it restart on it's own.

Well don't know if coincidence or not but I'm having to settle for reading about high life update due to a broken console ,:(

How are you all having so much freezes?

All of my friends are only getting max one per 3 to 6 hours...

I play on xbox360 btw. But seriously, I have it once in a while, but not like, everyday or so :S

its driving me away from the game.

finding it hard to motivate myself enough to play the game knowing its just gonna freeze after five minutes

I don't think anyone can predict what it does to our consoles or if it does anything. It doesn't seem healthy though. I remember back in 2008, everyone who played Battlefield Bad Company online had about 50 freeze-ups a day.

My console back then lasted for years beyond that so it's hard to say. I've played numerous games through the years which would freeze just like GTA:O and so far I haven't seen any developer making a statement much less do anything about it.

I concur.

It's now over 72 hours ago the High Life update was released, and of those 72 hours, I've been playing like 20 of them.

Only frozed two times, and I'm on the 360 too.

ye what he said i do that, never pull out the plug, just open the hatch for the disk and it will just restart then close it, freezing happens once or twice for me so thats what i do, open the slim ps3 disk hatch and wait 30 seconds and it restarts.

The constant freezing will eventually cause the console to explode :lol:

I'm not always encountering freezing console, but sometimes it just happen as soon as I hit the Online. In fact, it has nothing to do with the console heat.

only? a game or any software should be able to be played or used indefinitely without crashing, anything not that stable isn't ready for public release.

The freexzng is caused by regional server lags due to too many players overloading a regional server(like us servers)& also due to low upload speeds from end user side, you normally want at least 40-50mb/s upload speed to keep multi player online session smooth

I had one in a week - just after I killed a guy twice, so I lost those stats - that's what annoys me most

UUh I don't think so? I have also 50mb+ UPLOAD speed, and about 100mb download speed... :S

It is necessary to play any game smooth :D

Totally random for me. Got two freezes within the span of 5 minutes yesterday, then was fine for the rest of the day (shrugs.)

What about people who play the digital version of the game?
I bought the game off of the PS store. Still risky?

Go figure out how upload speeds affects online gaming before acting like a retard, below is a speed test to check if your internet is ideal for decent online gaming, you would want at least 25 mbupload speed

Ahhhahhaha. Why don't you go "figure out" the average broadband bandwidth for gamers before insulting people in a childish (and obviously defensive) manner :p

I don't think it is a user end problem - I have a very good connection most of the time, except when one of my family kills the internet, the thing is, even with those blips I don't freeze - in other words, freezing is totally random with regard to my connection

It is not random. It's because GTA Online uses cell loading. To much clutter spawns at the same time; which fills the RAM Memory.

When this reaches a certain point you will risk freezing.

PS:

If your cache isn't cleared for quite a while, this event starts happening much more...

I don't think it can damage the console... I mean what do you think could be a risk? overheating? nah man... molten hardware because of software it so 90's.

I didn't have one freezing issue at all until 1.13. After this update I seem to freeze a lot.

If you're going complain to anybody, complain to Sony/Microsoft. If there's enough complaints that it freezes or is damaging consoles, they'll take the game off of the store and block Online play, forcing Rockstar to fix it.

A dick move to Rockstar, yes, but they clearly aren't doing anything to fix it.

You're an idiot. No other way around it Biff. 50mbps upload is in no way required to play online smoothly. Not even close.
