So?.....Who's really causing the freeze? Rockstar or Hackers?

I have Fiberoptic internet using a gateway to connect directly with my console. 30mbps down & 15Mbps up. ping is less than 100ms

Only 30Mb/s down and 15Mb/s up? That's pretty weak.

its better than some people who have 100mb down but only like 2mb up and 500ms for some reason...lol. Getting a 100mb down connection but staying with 2mb up and 500ms wont help much! :p Edited by fofofofofofofofo

It would be interesting to know if people who play single player ONLY (never touch the online mode) get this issue aswell...

The game crashes for both gta v and gta online, so it MUST be a damaged file somewhere. The real question is how this file gets damaged. Does a hard shutdown of the console cause this? Does lag or a cloud server issue in gta online f*ck up your game? is it possible that a patch causes this?

I kinda don't believe that it's because of the patch.

why?

Because if you don't have the exact same data on your console, you should fail the update check by the server, right? So it's not the update files itself, the console itself probably f*cks something up at some time.

It'll error up and freeze the exact same ways in both SP and MP. Music becomes static and disappears, people vanish, no more spawn, map becomes blurry, unable to open up any menus, and... Hard freeze.

It did not start until the 1.11 patch. It is not an issue of your internet or disk or even console. My only guess is it's a cloud based issue and/ or rendering issue with the game.

Hacker: "...I said, Im pulling up the freeze file now..."

LOOOOOOL!!!

I think next time it happens we should create a GUI interface using Visual Basic and see if we can track their IP address.

I take it you guys know that bandwidth is only a very minor factor in stable connections? (unless, of course, it's tiny)

I have regular domestic broadband, which in the UK is about 13Mb download and 1.5Mb upload (if you're lucky). I have 0 lag or freeze issues on other games. This one freezes because of software bugs, not connection issues. It's plain as day as the freezes (actual console locked - need to power off type freezes) occur in similar situations every time.

I once had a hacker join my crew mates and my session, he said he was going to terminate our games because we kept killing him. He then asked "who has Verizon internet?"(it was mine) then my wifi shut off and wouldn't turn back on. I called one of my crew mates and he said the same thing happened to him and his router wouldn't come on. We had to have techs come to our houses and reboot our routers.

So yes, I believe a hacker can freeze our games as well.

My lie detector is going through the roof!

not really.. it's enough to play with 16 players and barely any speed is taken away. plus i would get 40Mbps-50Mbps depending on internet traffic. Online gaming only takes up around 100-400Bytes per person your connected with. if i'm correct 50Mbps would = around 4-6MBps?

I have yet to have a freeze and play a few hours a day! Most I've frozen was for about 30seconds loading out of an online mission.

Bf4's freezes were properly across the board and EVERYONE got them.

when I get a freeze, I know that I will keep getting them.

This must mean that a file is just damaged, that's my only explanation for it. And this probably happens when you download something new, so either you are really unlucky and the new patch corrupts something or the cloud server constantly saves new data on your ps3 and when you lag often, you are more likely to get some corrupted file and thus get the freezing issue.

It would be interesting to know if people who play single player ONLY (never touch the online mode) get this issue aswell. This would mean it has something to do with the patch then...

Well someone from this thread who freezes numerous times a day should turn their console offline completely and play SP for a day to see if they freeze at all. If that is true then that will narrow it down to system file corruption or the system itself. If they don't freeze then that will mean its R*'s end.

Trust me, I've been experimenting all kind of stuff when I've had this issue. I tried playing single player with and without patches, still froze.

And guess what, I am pretty sure that it's just file that's only in the Los Santos map.

Sounds weird but when I had the issue, I could just replay the prologue without any problems, but as soon as I played on the Los Santos map (be it a mission or just walking/driving around)

After re-installing the game or just the patch, it still didn't work.

When I performed a factory restore on my ps3, it worked. But soon again, I got the issue again and I had to do it all over again. It was during the christmas surprise (snow over los santos).

Restoring the file system worked aswell....

The weird thing is that the file stays on the system when you re-install the game, but it is not a system file (like a driver or idk how the ps3 OS is built), it must be a game file because I could play the prologue over and over again with NO issues at all! Other games worked like a charm (tested with gta iv). That's where I stopped "investigating"... I couldn't find an explanation for this.

MAYBE people freeze because of a bad installation of the game....... brainf*ck.

I agree with you there... People think that they only matter so when they freeze it has to be developer issue. As I said before, I don't freeze like some people are complaining they do. I agree with R* about being a hardware issue. Same like with IV when it came out. Consoles were overheating and a console patch was released to help the issue.

The issue with games freezing up have been around for years. First time I remember encounter it was back in 2008 when playing Battlefield Bad Company multiplayer and it was game breaking.

For example every time you got into a chopper as a pilot on certain maps the game would freeze.

no it's not overheating and it's not about a broken laser or whatsoever. The gta v disc is actually easier to read because it's a single layer disc. final fantasy has a double layer disc if I remember correctly, and this game wasn't a console killer either... When I had the freezes, I tried watching a blue ray movie just to make sure the laser is still working fine and I had no rouble watching the movie. It was Sherlock Holmes, oh god I wish he was here right now so he could solve this f*cking mistery finally.

IF the freezes were hardware issues, then I would still have them. (In fact they should be worse because I've hit my ps3 several time since that). But that's not true. I fixed it just by doing the things in the link in my signature...

Maybe they wanted to say that only some models of the consoles are likely to get the freezes, because MOST of the "victims" on playstation have a ps3 slim or superslim... my brother has a ps3 fat (the one that came out after the very first 60gb model) and NEVER had a freeze... I have a slim and got f*cked a while ago.

Please don't misread what I said, not once did I say V was causing overheating issues. I was implying all games will have issues, but its not always the developers fault and I gave IV as example with overheating issue. But not all console version hardware is the same. Your slim model has revised components compared to the launch system and the developer can't compensate for all hardware changes, that is for the console creator to deal with.

Another example is Driver for the PSP, it only worked on PSP1000 and none of the newer PSP models that came out after. People tried blaming the developer for it, but it was Sony's fault.

I would agree with this but we'll find out how accurate this is though once GTA V/O is available for XboxOne and PS4.

yea sorry I sometimes tend to overfly some posts :p

But do you really believe it's just because of different hardware? I mean every console version (both ps3 and xbox360) can get the freezes from what I've read so far... This kinda contradicts Rockstar's statement...The game came out when there were a lot of different models of the consoles, maybe it actually is their fault :/

If it's because of the hardware, why does it happen on every model? I don't know if it's true but I just assume that it happens on every model by the way.

... I think it's completely random, either you get it or you don't. The exact same thing happened to my console but during christmas time. It starts with a minor bug and then sh*t starts getting f*cked up, more bugs, more missing animations etc. and eventually, you have to push the power button, eject button or pull the cable.

If it was cloud based, you shouldn't get a freeze in single player...

Once I tried to re-install the game (without internet connection) and play single mode in ver. 1.0 and I actually froze... I mean wtf. Other games worked fine...

I don't think it is hackers because I play single player and I still freeze there.

Have you ever played gta online? If not, then this would make things even harder to find out :D

Like someone else said, BF4, everyone no matter what had freezing issues. With GTAV is only seems like a handful of people with the issue and usually that just means its hardware issue. Obviously R* doesn't think its an issue since there isn't many people reporting the problem. If there was a lot of people I'm sure R* would have did/said something about it being their fault.

This. Old-ass tech plus lazy code from R*. (I can't really blame them. Expecting a company to support 9 year old technology is rare anyway).
