Black Chrome from LSC

Today i made a nice little discovery at the LSC in the industrial district. i went there to modify a white Bobcat XLi had bought from SAS and that i hadn't yet done anything on. additional to the white primary i had ordered, the Bobcat got delivered with Black as the secondary color, which in the bobcat's case is basically the upper half of the car.

for whatever reason i then opened up chrome for the secondary color, and even without buying it right away it was clearly visible that the chrome had turned to Black Chrome, looking just like Red Chrome, Blue Chrome, etc., just in, well, black. if this process is repeatable and expands to other colors it's probably the easiest method to get colored chrome, and maybe also colored Metals.

If you find anything relevant to this issue, please post it here. thanks.

Metal Slime

By the title, I thought you found glitch to create a black chrome for all vehicles.

Still a nice a discovery though.

Do you think this is possible on any other vehicle?

dunno why not. i haven't done any testing though, if it has to do with the car being fresh from SAS, if the model is important, if it works with other colors etc. thought i'd put it out there anywhere before it might get hotfixed.

again, please post your findings here so we can determine the possibilities and flaws of this bug.

I will test tonight.... it's lame how excited I am about this. Thanks, Your Grace.

Not gonna lie...being a hater of chrome as a primary color, I would and will try this out...

...because it's black.

might be for all vehicles that can be driven in to LSC. dunno yet. might also work for other colors.

also important to note that black chrome looks pretty much like normal chrome in bright daylight. look at it at night under electrical light, or in a tunnel, to see its full potential.

I'd be curious to see a shot of the vehicle in daylight.

I've noticed that when you select chrome in the LSC, it always looks dark, especially the LSC out in Blaine County, I think due to the lighting inside the garage.

Also, driving at night or through tunnels gives the illusion of a dark-tinted chrome, but when you drive out in daylight, it is standard chrome.

Not saying this isn't the case for you, but I'm looking at my Huntley right now in the LSC and when selecting chrome, it definitely looks like Black Chrome - again, inside the garage.

I purchased the $12,500 paint job and pulled out into the sunlight, and yep, standard chrome. <sigh>

Just 2¢ and a trial run. ;)

Cant you already do exactly this by just painting your car black and then applying the chrome? Thats how you do every other color or am I missing something here? Colored chromes have always been around, I have yellow, green, and blue chromes right now. Under certain light they look awesome but in the sun you will see chrome mainly.

Typically you can "glitch" in a crew color to add to chrome, but again, typically, when you put a chrome secondary on a black vehicle, it looks like shiny silver in daylight. Like I said, though, at night or in a tunnel or dark location, the chrome looks black. From my experience, anyway. I have yet to find a way to add color to chrome, but would love to learn how (besides the crew color, which for me is hideous!). ;)

it's a bit more complicated than that. if you actually do have these colored chromes you should be aware of that. it can either be achieved through save editing a SP vehicle, then bringing it online, or through a method involving the crew color and a specific order of applying. the way you describe in your initial sentence usually just replaces the color with the chrome, it doesn't merge the two together. why this happened in the case of my Bobcat i don't know yet, but i'm sure we'll figure it out.

understand your skepticism, but i am a 100% sure it is black chrome. i made about every version of colored chrome and therefor know that some colors work better in daylight, are even recognizable at all times , while others only give up their secret in the cover of darkness. dark shades such as black definitely belong to the second category, while f.e. bright green

and bright red

work just as well at day.

if your current crew's color is that hideous, simply create a own dummy crew just for colors. you can then change the color to anyone you like by viewing page source on the respective SC site, then hex-editing the value of your desired color in.

but yes, as previously mentioned, black chrome looks very much like normal chrome in daylight.

I dont think you understand what I mean. I dont glitch anything or bring in cars.

I go to the paint shop and select a color and buy it, then I select chrome and it puts it right on top of the color I choose.

In a tunnel it will look exatcly like yours.

Also there is a high propability that I was stoned when I did this everytime and I always used a crew color but still didnt glitch anything. I just selected crew color and thne chrome after that. I am not claiming to be 100% right on any color but I do know this works very easily with the chrome paint and crew color at the bare minimum.

if it actually works for you and you weren't just too stoned, well, in that case you are one lucky s.o.b., and by one i mean one. everybody except you had to jump through quite some hoops to get it done.

now i would contradict my own experience of today when i'd say it's not possible that you had an easy method work for you, but ask yourself: if it actually works that way for everybody, why don't i see more red Chradders, blue Chrultans and pink Chraggios? any chrome you ever see in lobbies is blank.

is that enough to convince your stoned ass that it might just have been said stoned ass that got you a bit confused there?

Pretty much this, I'm thinking it's the lightning conditions.

In this case it's a taller vehicle and only the top (hood really here) is chrome. So the perspective already makes the lighting conditions interesting on top of it being in a dark tunnel where really the only colors to reflect are grays and blacks.

Funny enough though there are rare cases where a vehicle on the street either parked or driven by an NPC has a secondary chrome already installed. I've seen this with Dominators and Gauntlets only.
