GPU BIOS Update necessary?

Im about to order my new PC build. Now Im going for the 3072MB MSI Radeon R9 280X Gaming 3G Aktiv PCIe 3.0 x16 (Retail).

I just read an review where the guy claimed, that he had heating issues and some other stuff. There was also an update on the article, where he said that they sent him a new BIOS which apparently fixed all the issues.

This article was from late 2013.

My question is:

Do manufacturers update the bios before sending them out to retailers? So that Ill already have the fixed BIOS?

That's quite possible. In any case, you can upgrade the VBIOS yourself.

Where can I find the latest? Do you have any idea how I can update it myself?

http://download.msi.com/uti_exe/LiveUpdate.zip - this utility will let you upgrade VBIOS. I couldn't find any VIOS to download on MSi website, so chances are this utility will download it automatically.

In any case, you can also flash the VBIOS manually, although this is more risky: http://rumorscity.com/2013/12/12/msi-r9-280x-bios-update-to-fix-overheating-and-vrm-temperatures/
