IMO, I wouldn't call the non-contact racing optional addition amazing, more like a welcome, possibly needed update. Is contact racing better, more challenging and a display of true overall skill? Yes for sure, again just IMO. However I am a clean racer and prefer to race fair, if I want to race dirty and what not, i'll play a GTA Race. I know i'm not the only clean racer out there, however it seems like for every 1 clean racer there are 2 dirty ones, just my experience in public races. The mystery of racing in standard public lobbies is always, who's racing clean and who's racing dirty? Some people don't care and want to just race anyway. Others are purists and will race clean and then you have the assholes that get off on messing sh*t up. If I was part of a racing crew, or crew in general I would always choose standard races when racing privately with the crew or friends. At least that way I know everyone is a clean racer, which is an impossible guarantee in public. The implementation of non-contact at least guarantees no other racer can mess up your race, if you do mess up, that's on you. As far as skill is concerned, non-contact requires less skill than standard, again IMO. Also seeing as how non-contact requires less skill than standard, less skilled drivers have a better chance at winning or placing higher. The implementation provided some balance to racing. The biggest plus for me about non-contact is no more catch-up bullsh*t which is just plain stupid IMO. Slip streaming is awesome and is a part of real life racing, wish they could add just that to non-contact. Bottom line, in public races I prefer non-contact, in private with friends, standard always.

 

IMO, The only racers in GTAO that can call themselves cream of the crop, the best, elite, or whatever other adjectives, are the racers that win with catch-up off, traffic on, and STANDARD, and most importantly race clean, all in public random lobbies.

It's pretty obvious that this thread was started to discuss how the new option to race with no contact has gotten more people to race. Hell, reading some of these posts I can see that a lot of people that practically hated racing are out there trying it out and having fun.

 

I don't mean to be mean, but how about someone starts a thread discussing if non-contact racing is actual racing or not? That way there's a nice thread for the differing opinions?

There is no way in hell a less skilled driver wins non contact more easily. Non contact shows who is the best driver....period. Winning a non contact race is all about driving at high speeds, knowing how to take corners and keeping your speed up as much as possible when doing so, and knowing when to brake and when to accelerate out of a corner. It's about knowing the track and knowing how each of your cars handles. CONTACT racing is about who can survive when the race is close. Contact racing is about who rams the sh*t out of everyone else at the right time. Contact racing in this game is NOT REALISTIC. If they want contact racing to be any good, they need to change how things work. Ramming someone with tons of force should stall your car out for 10 seconds. This has been done in other racing games and it really teaches racers to race clean and not ram people into walls going 100mph(or ramming them into oblivion)

 

Rubbing is fine, but that's not the problem in the contact racing. Too many gamers out there suck at racing so they rely on slamming the sh*t out of people on corners because it's the only way they can keep up.

All I hear is you contact racing fans saying non contact isn't real. THe fact is that non contact is more real than the contact racing in THIS GAME. In real racing, ramming like an idiot gets your car destroyed and could kill someone. Ramming like people do in this game is NOT allowed in real life racing. And yes...non contact DOES show who is a better driver. It shows who knows the track better, who is better at driving at high speeds, who is better at handling their car around corners, and when to brake and accelerate out of corners, who is better at knowing how each of their vehicles handles and how to use that vehicle in certain race types. CONTACT racing is sh*t and is always a bunch of idiots ramming the f*ck out of each other, which isn't realistic. They both have some unrealistic aspects, but non contact is much closer to real racing and skillful racing than contact is.

I'm pretty sure that people that have lost countless races to rammers have a few choice words to say to them. I'll agree, however, that neither side is helping their case. What reason is there to make fun of people that enjoy the non-contact option, though?

 

It clearly isn't a discussion thread, before you even read what the OP wrote in his post you read the title and decided on getting some kicks by de-railing the topic. How's that for implying?

 

I get that some bumps and nudges are fun, that's why there's options for people that race in their preferred method.

I think it's a great addition, I haven't used it and I probably won't...but I can see why people would love it. If you want to totally avoid pricks who ram you off the road that's what it's there for. I host races that way I can kick idiots from the next race.

 

Most of the arguing seems to be about how the best racers are using ghost mode. How does being able to ghost through a car make you a better driver than someone who goes around a car. Weird logic.

The little bastards drive around the track backwards all the time!. So your doing 5 laps avoiding head on collisions with ramp/Turismos that send you onto roofs/in the water who knows?. I still haven't been able to join a race with non contact turned on. Last night I was able to join a full racing lobby but they were changing between gta mode and non custom cars.. This was quite frustrating after building a car for each class. I try to host my own but at best I get one other guy to join.

There's no rubbing in GTA Online contact races. Guy 1 hits guy 2, both guys spin out causing pile up. It's almost impossible to pass someone on contact racing in a closed area so you're forced to just linger behind because if you try to make a move and so much as tap him with your vehicle, one of you or both of you are both f*cked.

 

Contact racing was sh*t, is still sh*t, and it's why I didn't race AT ALL until no-contact was finally here. I didn't even race with friends because you feel like a dick if you brush against your crew mate and he ends up spinning 900 degrees into a wall because of how retarded the cars act in this game.

I do like it a lot more than I thought I would. It's best on tracks with a lot of turns but Long Haul, Commute and other straight tracks it is pretty boring. Unless traffic is on, then it can be quite good.

I like having contact with the other by just light contact but crashing into everyone at the start like most races do is just lame...I race without catch up so if i get bumped into at the start I have NOWAY of gaining the leader ever (except if he crashes ofcourse)

to me games should be fun to play. and this option(remember it is an OPTION, if you dont like it...RACE ALONE right? ) can be turned off by yourself, so dont attack the OP like he did something to YOUR races. which he didn't

try that with a normal/good racer haha, wont happen as i said in my post, only if he crashes etc...but if you wait till all the bumpercars are on their way you can for certain KNOW they will bump you off AGAIN as soon as you get near them...

This whole argument is so tiring.

 

The bottom line is that this is not a racing game as we all know. It is basically an open world with as many ways to cause carnage and chaos as possible.

One of those ways is racing jobs. They are designed to be arcade style chaos. There will always be people that use features in ways that arent intended though. There are many people who come from experience with other true racing games who insist on trying to turn this chotic representation of racing into a more civil and familiar form. In truth this is against the design and is difficult to do unless you can group with other people who want similar things, hence the race crews that form. You can not however expect others to follow suit with your choices.

 

There are different metrics to measure for each option of the racing mode. All of the modes take skills though they might be different skillsets for different modes. None of the modes are anything that could be related to real, but with an agreed upon set of guidelines among friends you can modify some of them to be much closer to a racing game type environment.
