With my previous experience of pre-ordering GTA V, I don't like the idea anymore. Better to just wait for the impressions post-release and decide later. One should never pre-order video games anyways, esp., AAA games. No harm in waiting.

Yep. I haven't preordered anything for PS4 so far. In fact, 4/5 PS4 games I bought are cheap mint first-copy second hand with active 'pre-order bonus', while the rest are discounted sealed copies. :p

This game looks like it's going to be as awesome as the first two. I only just saw the trailer (most recent one).

Yeah this game is gorgeous! Dare i say, being an open world game, a lot better than gtav. The story seems great! And im glad they toned down the explosions.

Not sure if this has been mentioned already, but I was reading this article and noticed something interesting:

During my time wandering around the downtown district, I noticed the civilian population has been drastically increased, and dynamic events like civil protests were not uncommon. I also noticed the police exhibiting different attitudes toward Lincoln. One cop chose to walk the other way when my towering antihero blocked his path, but another dropped a racial slur and tried to verbally put Lincoln in his place. When I clocked him, the other pedestrians on the sidewalk didn’t seem to mind. Seems about right for a city that has always had a dubious relationship with law enforcement.

I was wondering for a while now whether or not the developers would acknowledge the civil rights movement and racial tensions present during the 1960s, so that's news to me.

Dunno if it's been posted before but, here goes my question to everyone feeling excited about Mafia III:

What is the first thing you're gonna do when you get the game?

First thing: I'd compile a list of features removed. Although the impressions post release will reveal all the details but I'd like to confirm the same, and if the list is bigger then upload the same on gamefaqs too.

Of course, checking the driving and shooting mechanics are already on top of my list, including whether the claims about more freedom/choices and building your own criminal empire contain enough truth to make the game worth playing over previous titles, or just another case of lies we were given earlier as well from the people making GTA V.

Press start.

you were close though

Still very skeptical about this one. It's either going to be very good or very disappointing. It all depends on how they pull off the story and setting.

Obvs, especially for people curious about the soundtrack. I seriously hope this song will be in the game.

This clip kind of concerns me, because it makes it sound like the game is being made more for me, even though Mafia's whole aim is to be soul crushingly realistic.

And don't get me wrong, I still don't like mafia II, but the thing is, it's not FOR me. It's for people who absolutely love realism. The realistic sandbox games crowd is starving, and they deserve good games too. This whole games industry thing isn't about pleasing me. There's more than one hungry crowd out there. Other people need games too.

Couldn't help but notice that Paint It Black was on the radio at one point, that's good to see.

About the driving... their use of the phrase "Hollywood driving" is more than a bit worrying, but it honestly looks like they were just saying that high-speed chases, drifting around corners and whatnot are going to be a little more over-the-top and similar to the old 60's/70's car chase movies, which isn't so bad in my opinion so long as they don't overdo it (e.g., your car peeling out every time you accelerate from a full stop). The driving shown in the gameplay looks fine to me, although I wish they'd show a bit more in the way of cruising around rather than just drifting around corners at 30 miles an hour.

Agreed. Not a single thing changed despite the fact that just about all the feedback I've seen is begging for the old driving. First the whole cut content fiasco with the second game, now they're making a mockery of the series with the 3rd one. It's like they're trying to alienate their own fanbase.

One thing I do want to see return from Mafia II is being able to repair your car whenever it breaks down

giphy.gif

I didn't even know you could do that in Mafia II and i have like 100 hours if not more into the game

He keeps failing the missions.

Not sure if I'll get this game. Don't like the premise. I'd rather have stuck with actually playing as a mafia guy. I'll see what the reviews are like when it comes out.

You can just replay it over and over. I probably put like 50 hours into it. Although I never counted. Could be more, could be less.

I doubt repairing the car feature will still be there, seeing as how they are drifting away from the realism scene.

The driving (still) looks awful. Looks like that new-style NFS wannabe drift crap but with much slower car. Not everyone wants to tokyo drift a bone stock 1950 pickup around every corner. I definitely would have preferred Mafia II's driving over this anyway. Lets hope this game is at least moddable on PC

I've already pre-ordered on steam so i'm going to get this game but if that's how they're going to do things all I can say is that there will most likely be mods that i'll install to "fix" it.

Mafia III's Driving Mechanics Are Inspired By 1960s Hollywood Films [ link ]

Hangar 13 puts emphasis on the revamped driving mechanics of Mafia III, and how they are inspired by 1960s era Hollywood films such as Steve McQueen's Bullitt, resembling "Hollywood action driving" as if you were a stunt driver starring in a blockbuster movie.

Each car is meant to feel authentic and has a certain heaviness, which allows for drifting around corners and crashing into things with force. Different surfaces, from gravel to muddy roads, will also affect how your car controls

The driving seems more like the kind of driving mechanics you'd describe in GTA IV. Besides, I don't get this fascination with offering the kind of experiences for some Grade-A Hollywood entertainment inspired from movies, and then call it authentic at the same time???

I don't know much about the cars during 1968 but the famous car chase from the movie Bullit which the developers seem to be inspired featured the car that was heavily "modified" ( check online for the details on what parts were changed ) for the action on screen, NOT AUTHENTIC at all unlike what the developers are trying to include the cars with revamp mechanics to duplicate a similar experience for stunts and action sequences in a video game.

Instead of taking the real life vehicles that were driven on public roads of 1968 they are using the movie as an inspiration which were filmed with "modified vehicles" simply for the sake of justifying crazy car stunts in Mafia.

Seriously, the developers seem to be completely out of their senses, if they are using both "authentic" and "Hollywood" together to describe a game that is meant to represent real life.

E:

Executive Producer Denby Grace said that, when it comes to access to these cars, the team is basically taking a Grand Theft Auto approach. You can get into every vehicle and, after five to 10 minutes of cruising around, you should have a feel for how it handles, giving you a chance to tear around the streets of New Bordeaux like a pro

Uh?? ... Do they care what the real ( Mafia 1 ) fans want? Edited by Osho

It's been a while since I played it so I don't remember much but when I did it the car repaired itself magically when I pressed X and I didn't get the animation.
