Fixed Idle Animations

For Vice City

Some of you may be aware that Grand Theft Auto Vice City on PC has two busted animation files inside of it's ped.ifp. These animations were IDLE_ARMED and IDLE_CSAW. On PC, they are single frame animations and make the player model stand completely still. PS2 on the other hand actually had proper idle animations. Tommy would sway back and forth when holding a rifle or a heavy weapon. The PS2 animations just look better than still frames so I decided to get those anims working for PC.

How to install

  • Extract the ped.ifp from the supplied .RAR
  • Go to the anim folder in your Vice City install directly
  • Replace the default ped.ifp with the supplied one
  • Launch the game!
I wasn't able to record the animations as my GeForce experience installation is corrupted. If someone can get video of the fixed animations please let me know! :)

Oh nice, and I was trying to figure out a script solution for this :))

Igor Bogdanoff

Thanks a lot, I looked for this.

Simple video showing it is working

Nice but could edit the anim and make it more creative ;)

I didnt create the anim. I rigged it from the PS2 copy. This mod is meant to restore the busted anims.

I'll make some gifs showing off the mod when I get home.

I know , I wrote "u should edit and make it more creative" not u should have created mor creative anim :/ . Anyways lets not talk abt this.

But... his goal is to restore the missing PS2 animations, how on earth could you make that ''more creative''?

oh, but you can't name this mod "a mod" because it's not adding new and original things!!11111

I'm currently trying to get the PS2 exclusive animations for GTA III to its PC counterpart. Expect an update soon.

I didn't see any difference o.O .

Tommy stands completely still when holding at two handed weapon on PC while on PS2 he sways side to side. It's pretty obvious. Skip to 0:33 on this video.

Claude jogs different for both run_armed and run_player. I've got the anims working, but they player ends up spinning a circle, so I'm fixing that at the moment.

Well that's because those anims were made for a system with a 360 degrees turn. PC controls are up down left right. Did you changed the controls configs to classic when you were testing?

Did you changed the controls configs to classic when you were testing? No, you're wrong here mate. Claude has a different animation for run_player and run_armed. Those are going forward and unaffected by the strafing animations. Just because they changed the two forward anims has nothing to do with the strafing introduced with the PC version.

Small update. I'm still working on the III animation fix in my free time, but here's an animation fix for those who play the GTA LC mod for VC. :^:

Yo, DimZet converted the PS2 GTA 3 anims for his mod that adds PS2 things to PC GTA 3. Maybe you could ask him to help you ;)

Good god PS2 emulators for PC lets us play ps2 versions of gta games (III, VC, SA, LCS, VCS and idk what else) also SA's ps2 version was first to be released out (2004) while pc one came later (2005)

On-topic - - - The PS2 version of GTA VC seems better, even GTA III's PS2 version is better, in my opinion.

The GTA LC version is a release of the original animations fix that is designed for the Vice City mod, GTA LC.

It includes GTA III animations with the fixed VC idle animations.
