Who Wants Jazz On the Radio?

Yes! Poll it up Thelonius Rexx!

Haha! Thelonious Rexx, I like that! Funny enough, I can actually play Jazz with the piano!

What strikes me as odd is how much content they've put out for that classic jazz-age look. Like from the getgo, we got a healthy batch of sports classics, not to mention the suits and fedoras. Then they even released the valentines pack which was totally about mobsters. This game feels like a better fit for a jazz station than GTA IV did, and yet it doesn't have one. Its very disappointing.

What Rockstar should have implemented is being able to add custom music to the game, similar to Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories for the PSP. That way, anyone can listen to what they like!

I agree.

Unlike San Andreas, GTA V have very little "likeable" songs, that you can listen to forever.

San Andreas soundtrack had so many good songs!

And I hardly listen to the radio, anymore, i'm just using spotify in the background, or something...

This was a classic track played on JNR... One of the best in my opinion.

Such a great song

Not that regular jazz channel but I'd love to have some fusion jazz in the game, just like Fusion FM in GTA IV

I want a jazz station because I want to play it the radio on my high end apartment(which is coming up soon :p). Imagine it: invite your friends, smoke some weed, drink vodka or green juice lol then sit on on the couch with some jazz music..

I'm still surprised they haven't implemented something that lets you stream your own personal Pandora/Spotify type of station.

But yes, Big Band/Jazz on the radio? I'd be all over that. I'd even turn my in game music volume back on.

BIG BAND! I love that stuff! Especially music from Buddy Rich!

Loved JNR 108.5 from IV, one of my favorite stations from IV. Along with The Journey, Liberty Rock Radio (LRR) 97.8, and WKTT 1066.

A jazz station is needed! From Calloway to Coltrane, Monk to Parker, with some Ellington & Davis in between!

This thread has restored my faith in the GTA community! YES! I loved the Jazz station in IV. I figured they thought jazz was more fitting for the city. They've always had some dope taste in stations. I'm always shocked the first time I load up a new game and browse the radio. When III came out I used to just drive around to catch songs. There was the underground station I loved. I think all the material from that one was all original probably because they couldn't afford to license major records at the time, but I loved that feel.

I always find something to like from each station in every game, but I played out Booty's station & Lowdown, not to mention the couple fusion joints on the Giles Peterson station, so now I just play some random jazz, funk, pysch, whatever from my console.

Oh, yeah - gots to have some big band tracks on there. Really blew my mind, hearing the Basie version of 'April in Paris' on the GTA IV soundtrack!

That said, since the game's set in a Los Angeles analogue, how about some more contemporary, 'LA Studio'-sounding big band stuff?

...bring on the Gordon Goodwin!

Although the purist in me would definitely rather something from the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis band. One of the finest, hippest big bands ever - this live broadcast of 'Groove Merchant' is just too good for words:

After a tiring day I just want to sit, play GTA and listen to JNR in my luxurious sedan... nothing more.

Exactly what I did! I got home, loaded up GTA IV walked outside, got into my Rebla, switched on JNR and drove around for hours. Loved it. Wish I could do the same in GTA V/Online.

Used to do it the old-fashioned way, back when I was playing the Midnight Club games on the PS2 - turned the in-game soundtrack off, and whacked on the Mingus Big Band on the stereo.

Cruising around the city with 'Nostalgia in Times Square' blaring out at full tilt - happy days...

I can't remember exactly but I believe there's a few jazz songs on the Low Down?

I think there should be a instrumental electro-acustic station.

I'm not even dreaming about it. I gave up any dreams about classics/operas/jazz stations in today games. Listening to my serious collection on my system. Cruising through the night with Julia London's "How deep is the ocean"or doing RR with "Why don't you do right" by Peggie Lee is awesome. I personally also like to listen for some classics like Maria Callas operas or magnificent J.S.

I feel your pain, OP.

I have heard the track "Chicano" on The Lowdown, that's a pretty cool track. I remember Kid Frost's version on San Andreas for the PS2 on Radio Los Santos.

Need some of the newer guys, too: Joshua Redman, the Marsalis brothers etc...

Golden on The Vibe from IV turned me onto Jill Scott a little bit. Maybe not strictly jazz but certainly jazz-zy. Love the piano licks mixed w/vocoder at the end.

Yeah, but I love the BS station breaks and news updates. Helps the illusion along.

But failing that, here's a fav of mine:

Driving into the city at night from the country with Les McCann and Eddies Harris' "Compared to What" mixed into the monitors just right with the sweet sounds of the Comet. The lights getting brighter and bigger as you approach and you begin to see the skyline. An nice approximation of rl (no I don't have a 911, I wish) and has the advantage of being able to simultaneously enjoy a scotch. :)
