I feel those kind of moments are unique to or atleast done best in San Andreas thanks to it's adventure like story. Would really like another story where it's like the protagonist is on a journey, I know it's not really the theme of GTA but it's an aspect of SA's story I enjoyed and I think in a multi city setting you can recapture the feeling of the protagonist journeying to various locations while attempting to build his criminal empire or whatever his goal may be. Would be neat

GTA has always made it seem a big deal when you go to a new part of the map. I think GTA IV was maybe the only that didn't in my opinion. Following Roman's Sorrow, Niko and Roman move to Bohan which was already unlocked but the story sort of felt as if Algonquin and Alderney were always unlocked. Apart from news reports or actually trying to get to those places early in the story, you probably wouldn't pay attention to the new areas becoming unlocked, not to mention, the whole map is unlocked in EFLC anyways which I always seen as a bit of a plot hole. Not a complaint by any stretch, just a comparison.

Regarding a journey like story, I'm all for it also. San Andreas is awesome and the story was a little whacky but in a good way, not a Saints Row way.

I remember playing a few days after Blow Your Cover and I was on the East Borough Bridge, I took the turn to Algonquin and I didn't even notice I was in Algonquin. Ahh, good old innocent days :)

Even though Bohan was already unlocked moving there did feel like a big deal to me because the previous safehouse was lost, which I hadn't experienced before and wasn't expecting. I'd got used to living in and around Hove Beach and then bam I had to live in sh*tty Bohan commuting everywhere and paying a toll lol. And unlocking Algonquin was kind of cool too, always seeing the skyline waiting to go there and then the way you drive through it the first time to take Playboy home.

I do think unlocking the map was done particularly well in San Andreas though, the way they utilised every part of the map to make it feel like you were on this huge epic journey through a huge world was probably the game's biggest strength. I don't think any of the other games have done it as impressively as that.
