Unpopular Opinions Thread

Max Payne 3 is a lot better than any GTA.

GTA III is the best GTA to ever be created.

GTA V's soundtrack is only interior to VC and VCS' soundtrack.

I actually like Franklin's character _|_ (<---- that is a middle finger, just saying)

GTA IV has the best animations in the series.

GTA V's most side-missions suck ballz. (I'm talking about Strangers and Freaks and stuff, nobody seems to complain about them)

The driving in IV is simply the best, people (like me) just complain because they can't drive for sh*t.

-Catalina was a sh*tty villain. How can anyone take her seriously? She´s WAY too "out there" to be a main villain.

-Shoreside Vale wasn´t sh*tty.

-Luigi is the best character in GTA III.

-Ken Rosenberg is the best character in GTA: Vice City.

-IF99 is the best radio station in GTA IV.

-Trevor is the best protagonist in GTA V.

-Ryder is the best character in the entire GTA series.

-The Comet is the best car in the HD series.

-The countryside in GTA V had the perfect size.

-GTA V´s story isn´t AS bad as so many people say. It wasn´t the best, but still.

-the good-looking cars in GTA V don't make up for the crappy driving physics.

Good looking? Man what have you been smoking? GTA V has the ugliest cars to date.

-Roman Bellic is the best antagonist in the series

True. He almost got you killed with his gambling problem.

The recent GTA fanbase isn't very pleasant at all. There are some good fans but a lot are irritating fanboys who always think their sh*t is the best.

That applies to IV, VCS, LCS, VC and III's fanbases too.

Whatever...

Racecarlock

I like saints row 3 and 4 better than GTA IV also. SRTT has a cool weapon called the RC possessor which lets you take control of any vehicle, run over a bunch of people, self destruct, and you still don't get a wanted level.

Saints Row IV has super powers and lots of fun and hilarious weaponry and I had way more fun with it than I did with GTA IV.

And no, I am still not trolling.

Anyways, On Topic:

  • Vic Vance is one of the worst protagonists
  • Johnny had the worst ending, not Niko
  • GTA should NOT do Chicago
  • San Andreas has the worst map design
  • Stats suck in SA
  • Bodybuilding is stupid
  • Hunger is stupid
  • Locking clothing stores was stupid
  • Having all of the map unlocked at the beginning is stupid
  • GTA should NOT go out of the USA

Yes you are. Now I'm going to have to break your knees for saying those two pieces of garbage are better than GTA IV.

Or how about I just remove you from my XBL friends list?

Saints Row 3 and 4 suck. Why? Because of Dubstep!

No I'm not. I really do like those games better. I'm not going to back down on this. I like those games and I will not give up on liking them because I am on this forum.

I don't like SRTT or SRIV, but if you do I don't see anything wrong with that.

Saying they're better than the masterpiece that is GTA IV though is wrong on so many levels however. :p

VanillaIce

Trevor is a better Character than Johnny K Ever Was Nor is he just some Psychotic mad man with no Depth if you think that you took No Notice of his Character At all.

San Andreas and even vice city to a certain Extent are both Overrated And Gta III Are Better than Both.

Gta V Was not Poorly Written Nor did it have a bad Storyline.

Grand Theft Auto IV Is the best Gta Title.

Steve Haines and Devin Weston were both Awesome Characters and Pretty good Antagonists.

Toni Ciprini is the best Protagonist from the Last Era.

I'm not wrong about my own opinions. But whatever.

Look, GTA IV had a great story. But tell me, what can you do after that? There's no mission replay, so if you like a certain mission you'll have to start a whole new game.

Going on dates with friends? Special abilities are nice, but going bowling with roman every half hour just isn't worth it to me. After a while I just kept sleep mode on. Sleep mode disables itself when you reload though, so you have to keep turning it off.

Rampaging? You can do that in any GTA game. It's also not as fun here because I like using cheats and the ability to get interrupted while trying to enable a cheat pretty much turned me off of rampaging since I knew I would get into a situation where the phone would keep getting shot.

You can drive around and look at the nice looking city. Again, like in any other GTA game, but you can't interact with pedestrians like you can in san andreas. It looks nice, but there's not much to it.

It wasn't a bad game, it was just kind of boring to me. And to me, a game being boring is the worst possible thing. Because, why am I here? I'm playing a game because I want to have fun. And this just, wasn't much fun. Especially when the story missions end and you wind up with a slightly gorey dating simulator.

SRTT and IV have all of those fun and wacky weapons and nutty and crazy side activities that I can replay again and again and not feel bored. And SR IV also has those super powers which are great fun to mess around with. Fun, the thing I play games for.

I mean a good story is as nice as anything but when it ends and you're left with a very barebones GTA experience compared to the previous one. It's just underwhelming. The DLC was nice, though, and at least BOGT had mission replay and new, fun weapons. So that was nice. No airplanes though, which kind of sucks. I mean, who cares that the city is small? Airplanes are fun to fly and fun to crash into things with. That was a bad excuse which BOGT didn't make any better by letting you literally go inside and blow up a private jet, but we didn't actually get planes on RAGE until V.

And even with the new weapons, clubs, and mission replay and parachutes, it still felt underwhelming to me. That's what GTA IV was to me. Just kind of underplayed and underwhelming.

I really don't understand why some people can't see that most of time I'm being sarcastic and have an ironic sense of humour.

Regardless if I agree or not I respect everyones' opinion.

Vercetti42

Even if SOL was just joking I disagree with Racecarclock. For me GTA IV (and gta in general) is one of the few games that I had so much fun with even without over-the-top features. For me IV is just as fun as any other "fun" game. Just Cause 2 was over-the-top and "fun" according to many but I got bored with it after 18 hours. In IV meanwhile, I've sunk in 30+ hours and I still can play it and of course, have fun.

I believe the problem is that people believe that fun in GTA means mostly chaos and missions but I get so much fun by just driving around in IV or any other GTA.

and about IV's missions, once again I disagree. I'll admit they aren't as varied as the other gta's and yes they are somewhat easy but there are still some memorable missions. There's master and the molotov, the snowstorm, no.1, three leaf clover, bull in a china shop, hostile negotiation and more which I can't think of right now. Even if they were easy I still found them to be engaging.

as for interacting with peds, yes this was a nice feature in SA but the variety of peds in IV and how interesting they were compensated for it IMO. In SA you could see the same ped in the same block, in IV it's very rare to see the same ped even in the whole city. Of course SA was developed in the PS2 era so it was indeed limited but my point is the lack of interaction did not bother me in IV because the peds were so interesting.

For me GTA IV felt like a very fluid, complete experience that has aged well over 6 years worth of time. It manages to combine fun with an amazing story and an amazing City in my opinion.

just my 2 cents.

Edited by Vercetti42

I think it should be made clear that "fun" is extremely subjective. For one reason or another people on this forum seem to think "fun" is exclusive to big explosions, flying planes, driving tanks etc.

On my most recent save of GTA IV I played it longer after the story than I did with GTA V infact. I actually like hanging out with the friends/girlfriends among the side missions so for me it has plenty of things to do after the story.

That's a TRUE unpopular opinion that GTA IV is actually fun.

The Jetpack in GTA SA is the dumbest mode of transport and should never return to the GTA series.

  • Planes were not removed from GTA IV due to map size, they were removed because of 9/11
How can something that wasn't even in the game in the first place be removed from IV? I know this is the unpopular opinion topic, but why do you think that GTA IV had no planes due to 9/11, when Rockstar themselves confirmed that the map size is the actual reason for it? I mean, sure, there's always the possibility that they are not stating the truth all the time, but if we went by that then we couldn't thrust anything they say, ever.

Because there are still some respectable GTA IV fans but the majority of the fanbase can be very hypocritical.

That's what I would call a straw man argument for the following reasons:

1) You do not know the "majority" of the fanbase. What you refer to are a handful of people on this forum who are actively participating in discussions regarding the GTA series.

2) The majority of the fanbase or people who purchase GTA games are not even registered on this forum, making your argument completely void.

It's easy to say the majority thinks this and that but remember: you don't speak for the majority, nor will you ever know the opinion of the majority. You can create hundreds of topics regarding GTA X versus GTA Y, or whatever, and attach polls to them where people can leave their opinion on all the games and discuss about it, but you will never get to know what the majority thinks. Statements like the one I quoted above are in no way accurate and honestly look like a desperate attempt to win an argument, at least to me, even if that actually isn't the case.

Anyway, here are some [presumably] unpopular opinions of mine:

  • SA hasn't aged well at all compared to all the other games in the series
  • GTA IV aged pretty well
  • The phone calls in IV are not at all annoying
  • San Andreas' side-missions are painfully boring
  • SA's story starts to become very boring after "Are you going to San Fierro?", but it's getting better again when Toreno gets introduced
  • III's and Vice City's stories are more interesting than SA's one
  • Gameplay and Story are equally important; one does not exist without another, in my opinion

I was with you 100% till you got to Claude.

  • Picking up hookers isnt all that fun. It's something I do maybe once or twice when the game first comes out then never bother with it again.
