Passive mode doesn't work. I don't know why they don't have a normal/friendly option like they had in red dead redemption. I think a lot of players would enjoy this

Passive mode doesn't work.

It works just fine.

People constantly say Passive Mode doesn't work.

You know what I think?

You don't know how to utilize it.

I can go entire sessions getting killed maybe once and leave the session with about 8 or 9 of my own kills.

Bottom line is if you dont like getting killed, make a private game.

/thread

Read my above post. It solves sweet FA.

Fair enough. If they just fixed passive mode so it was 100% safe, then problem solved.

Passive mode is for those who are getting killed multiple times and want to prevent being killed again. You can then turn it off once you are ready. It shouldn't be a 24/7 thing, if you were going to do that and avoid all contact you'd might as well go to an invite only session and only play with friends and others you trust, or just play singleplayer.

Passive mode is just a temporary tool to prevent you from being spawn killed or ganked coming out of your apartment. You can't be shot, but you still can't walk down the street. You'd have to spend the whole game up on a roof or hiding in a planter.

Like everyone else said - If you want to be able to just explore without having to constantly look over shoulder, a private session is the only way to fly.

Why does everyone who likes to treat Freeroam like a f*cking death match insist on trying to tell other people how they should play?

Exactly. That's one thing that annoys me about GTAO. Sometimes (read MOST of the time) when I am in public lobbies, i just want to do my own thing and enjoy the online world without getting constantly griefed. That usually involves cruising around in a car which makes passive useless. The last thing i want is some jackass trying to force me to PvP.

I've lost track of how many times i've left a session via the character wheel because some douche started attacking me unprovoked and i refused to give him the satisfaction of getting a kill.

I'm saying that if R* implemented the friendly/normal options like they did in Red Dead, you would have a lot of people join those lobbies. I would ask you folks what is Passive mode? My answer would be passive mode is for players in a public lobby that would like to run around the open world with other people without the risk of being killed by other players. Players vs NPCs. Joining a private lobby, friends lobby etc are the only options available at the moment. Friendly/normal servers wouldn't be a hard thing to implement I don't think, but then again I don't know dick about that kinda thing. I'm pretty sure that the friendly/normal/hardcore servers on Red Dead came after the release too.

Works perfect for World of Warcraft. RP and PvP servers. Problem solved.

i love killing people, to be honest, i still see GTA as the kill everyone game that it was originally meant to be lol

Odd, since the game is titled after a car-related felony, not murder.

You must've been one of those people who never finished (hell, even started) the actual missions.

lol the missions, have a look at the missions in gta 1, this game has never been just about car theft

Exactly - Passive Mode really should be called "Planter Mode" because that's the only way it is any good, and that's only until the fire truck arrives. :bored:

The way Rockstar designed Free-roam, it's just a twitch shooter deathmatch with the extra bonus of being able to run over people. Passive mode as they designed it, is about half useless.

So, people like me who just want to drive their cars around and have fun, must stay in Invite Only or Solo lobbies. Trouble is, if you Swap Character or play a mission, you get dumped into Free-roam. :nervous: Then it takes two extra steps to go back to SP and then back to Invite Only.

These are simple game design problems that Rockstar does not seem to want to fix. Clueless....

To avoid being dumped into freeroam after a mission, just create a single player world. After the mission is done back out rather than selecting free roam. You will get put back into the single player game you created.

I'm not really a fan of just hunting random players and killing them... then again I do enjoy a friendly fire fight.

Problem is you can't go into public lobbies to get into friendly battles. Usually it ensues with some squeaky pitched voices, or me being called derogatory names.

Not to mention, I play this game more for the auto side of the game and not the theft part.

Best open lobby I was ever in turned into one huge car show at LSC. Totally random to have 14 people just walking around and checking out each other's rides.

semantics mate, after gta 2, lets be honest, GTA wasnt really factored around the idea of car theft, yeh, ill give it to you that 1/2 was really about cars and getting them to where they needed to be, but from gta 2, its not really so much about cars as it is completing missions that primarily involve killing people

I dare you to play the whole GTA storyline without driving a single car, then tell me that it's not about cars.

It's going to be even worse for people after 1.13 who shy away from being killed or killing people. Seeing as it will now say if they're dangerous or not. Rockstar pretty much implemented a system to tell everyone in the lobby who the p***y is.

OP forgets that there is tons more to do than just bland pointless killing.

Edit: Woah. Lots of people that believe other people being asses are an excuse to be an ass.

If you don't want to get killed play invite only. Free roam is full of random people and most have read the hints that tell you you can be killed by other players. Its not rocket Science. Before I let my wife even join me in free mode I made her play against me and my other family until she could play well enough to defend herself....the rest of the novices should do the same or play something else. I shoot whoever isn't on my freinds list...sending me peaceful messages won't change that...I came to freemode expecting hell...passifists not welcome.

Mr. Rocko

Passive mode doesn't usually protect you.In fact a lot of the time it's like handcuffing yourself as you can't fight back.

Spot on, that's exactly how I feel in passive mode

Because dumbass meanie cops still chase you in Passive mode :( That and I sometimes forget it's on.

Bounties underestimate you though. I met one up in Vinewood Hills and he got out of his car because he thought I wasn't a threat. I made him a smear on the pavement :D

Quitting from the mission voting screen protects you from winding up in public as said above. Once you've done ONE job and quit back to invite only, if you switch character you will spawn in a private lobby with your new character. Works every time.

It should work better, but these two methods DO work.

Thanks @Quarthon and @Rowan Sane for the clarifications. I have sometimes come back from missions to my own empty lobby again, but I did not know what the conditions were (or that there were conditions). So I kind of thought it was random and I did include both missions and swap character in the original statement.

It's good to know that there is a way to swap character and still return to a private lobby. I will try that -- if I don't freeze first :dontgetit: -- seems like half the time, when I get a real rhythm going, the console locks up out of the blue. Other times, it's fine for hours.

I really hope that doesn't make the asshole aggressive players only go after the people who don't want a fight. They should go after their own kind (barbaric animals).

this game really needs a PVE server.

If you want to kill, play deathmatch.No. They gave you a gun use it or don't. You'll get tired of getting killed and resort to invite only anyway or youll continue to be a victim.

One thing I´ve noticed is that free roam sucker punch warriors are usually crap at deathmatches. Maybe that´s why they stay away from proper PvP modes, because they don´t stand a chance with everyone in PvP mood and no one around to catch AFK or exiting a garage.

Whatever the reason is, it´s a shame these morons ruin free roam.
