SoftTouch
Annual releases for the Need for Speed franchise stretch back more than 15 years and the series has been a pillar of EA's release schedule in the same way that Madden games have been. But NFS fans needn't worry just because there won't be any aggressive street racing this year. Series executive producer Marcus Nilsson says that there is a new game coming but it needs more time. But Nilsson says that the success of Rivals is part of the reason that its follow-up needs more time. "We have a grand and aspirational vision of where we want to take this franchise and it's simply going to take more time" "This is the first time that we're saying 'Let's not do one this year because of what we can do with extra development. The extra time will let us take time and get feedback and have people play our code early on and get feedback in a much more integrated way." http://kotaku.com/for-the-first-time-since-1996-theres-no-need-for-speed-1572601195 Edited May 9, 2014 by SoftTouch Th3MaN1, PerceusSOZ and Detective Phelps
PerceusSOZ
This makes me rather happy and curious. What could they possibly be doing that requires a whole extra year to develop? Also, whatever it is, will it be ported to current generation?

GTA3Rockstar
the series has been a pillar of EA's release schedule in the same way that Madden games have been. True, except we really don't need one of these every year. Just like CoD Though I enjoyed Rivals for the xbox one.
I<3GTAV
Good, use the time to make it stand out from the rest and add some interesting new content.
godforgivesthelostdont
Yearly releases makes sense for a largely static fanbase but for quality sake, skipping a year does make sense. It's probably because theyre preparing for next-gen tech.
CantThinkOfOne2013
Good, use the time to make it stand out from the rest and add some interesting new content. Adding the ability to pause single player would be a great start.
Flachbau
http://www.needforspeed.com/news/future-need-speed-0 Also found that. We’re going to give you the game you’ve been asking for. It will be the game you deserve, but to do that will take us some time. Oh my lord, please don't f*ck this up. I wonder what we're getting. PerceusSOZ
Man in hoping for shift 3, or quality game like shift 2 but on the streets. I'm hoping for a return of the Pro Street scene. Kinda similar to the Shift series, but completely its own in a special way. One of my favorite NFS games in the series right there.

They said the same thing with Generals 2, and look at what happened to that. Then again, they already have a few free2pay games for NFS. FranklinDeRoosevelt
They want to give us what we asked for? We've been asking them for years now and what did we get? A bowl full of sh*t. It's probably Underground 3 which is what is being asked about right now, and has been for ages, or a PROPER remake/reboot of the original Most Wanted. If you ask me it will be something stupid like Rivals 2 with a huge map to compete with The Crew. Doesn't really matter what it is but it is going to have a huge map regardless (which would actually be a delay worth waiting for unlike a certain driveclub...) considering The Crew was developed to be a NFS killer... I mean come on. They're showing us the customisation like their trying to mock NFS and both are arcade free roam racing games (there's some NFS games that aren't free roam but most of them are). GunWrath
To be honest, NFS had died years ago.. though I hope another Shift is on the horizon. Can nearly compete Shift with Forza on some levels.. really enjoyed the drifting sessions. Wayne Daniels and TheMcSame
The Pizza Delivery Guy
Considering GTA V had more customizing than nearly all NFS games released the last 5 years combines, and customization was a staple for NFS in the early 2000s, I hope they actually try on this next NFS. Underground and MW 2005 was my life for a lot of years, and if they made another game out of those two, with no Burnout aspects, a heavier focus on single player, and a very long campaign, then it may be able to compete with the likes of Drive Club, The Crew, and hell maybe even Forza. Mister Pink
Just make a Underground 3 and they're sorted. Why wont they listen to gamers on that one? I know loads of people that will play an Underground game even if they dislike all their other crap. I did enjoy Hot Pursuit though. Online for that was a lot of fun and SP for that matter.
