Why doesn't GTA V have a fun community like GTA IV did back in 200

I was saying the TC and anyone who doesn't see that these games both had backlash at launch, is plain ignorant. Same with people that assumed MOST on HERE this board specifically didn't play IV or IV online. You actually believe we think V is SOO sick we had to join a board? I had to join this board because there is soo much going on (more than IV did at this early in it's cycle!) and events to take part in, I finally joined the site to keep up, and mingle with like minded players. I used to come here back during IV.... But I figured out most of that game without the help of this board. I say to those that don't like baseball, don't post in baseball forums.

Then again common sense is lacking. And not to bring race into it (even though I admit I am!) I have never met a troll online that sounded black. Funny true story about that.

Your posting style is pretty much the same as a guy I know named Slamman. You'd be great friends you two.

....but it's like punk rock. Those who know it's roots, and where it's cornerstone lie, hold it close to the vest, and understand, like everything it's not meant for everyone. I can enjoy most roots style punk rock, where as those that got into Blink, and Sum 41, can't deal with Black Flag, or Suicidal tendencies. SAME THING. I wasn't around for Crass, and Ramones, but as soon as I got into the Warped tour scene (I was at the FIRST one) I went back and did my homework.

Most kids nowadays don't do that. The information is there, but some are too cool to reference and check it out. Which is fine because I get to come across as a know it all. Suits me.

That's one thing I understood from you and can relate to.

I grew up listening to Simple Plan (because they come from where I live...yeah) but my favorite band is Bad Religion. Greg Graffin is a genius.

1 year ago, run someone down at full speed in a comet in liberty city and laugh like an idiot
present day, mow someone into the pavement in my trusty comet in los santos, laugh harder

nothing changed :)

In my humble opinion Liberty City Stories was... I like how it connected the universe, and the Bike ban wasn't in place, and LC survivor.... But everything else for me was too much. I had to MAKE myself finish the game. VC stories wasn't great either, but playing as one of my favorite musicians was something I never though would happen in a video game. I did love Funk in time from LC stories... but that is it. Maybe the Manchez too... LOL!

Who could possibly hate the Manchez? And yeah, the "Stories" of Liberty City and Vice City are probably good shouts for worst.

All vice stories added was swimming? Of course the amphibian, and jetski... but yea....

And in liberty you couldn't climb if I remember correctly. And they came out after S.A.... That was my main issue. Not the size or old map. But that they didn't add features from S.A. to the stories games. Plus DAT radio in LC stories was the WORST of all the games. I promise.

I grew up listening to Simple Plan (because they come from where I live...yeah) but my favorite band is Bad Religion. Greg Graffin is a genius.

I enjoy pop music as much as PUNK... I am not afraid to admit it. I purchased No helmet from Simple Plan, that album was as good as anything New Found Glory put out at the time. But it aged horribly. Where as stuff closer to the source didn't, listen to New Found Glory's self titled album. It aged better. On top of that... one of the dudes from the band helped A Day to Remember produce their jank (A few of them used to live in my town.)

Another clear point I'm making is when material stays close to it's roots, and source it's cult fans never leave hungry. Bad Religion aged better than any of the bands I named. I still have my Bad Religion shirt from when hot topic only sold either BLACK or WHITE clothes. NO rap artist had their stuff in their at the time, and most of the pants were bondage, or KIK wear. And people thought Kappa was dope. When GTA one released 20+ year olds LOVED it. Most of my peers at the time couldn't do it, and stuck with Crash Bandicoot.

GTA's community gets bigger each release like skateboarding does to the point where people are just walking around with boards not doing tricks, because it's socially acceptable to board. It used to be unacceptable counter culture, and GTA was alongside it. And gta is similar now... People driving in circles online just to be there. Pathetic.

I think I'm one of the lucky ones that played GTA III as my first GTA.

Well who else is going to play online games ? Obviously not the older people as they got lives, so it all comes down to the kids that doesn't have anything better to do in life.

gta 2 was my first and I'm 24 I see your point with online. We also gotta remember most of the kids run the community

that playing style thats being praised by OP is the reason why i quit playing IV multiplayer...

one thing is being a troll/griefer while still vulnarable.

other thing is being a troll/griefer while being in godmode, invisible, etc...

at first it was kinda cool because people would mod in ramps and stuff to have fun in freeroam but then it was pure madness. simply unplayable unless you were modding too.

i mean it would have been great if it was one person per session but no, by the time i quit playing IV multiplayer around september 2012, it was 12 out of 16 players in the session modding, lagging the sh*t out of everything, using "turbo" mode, rapid fire, no reload, spontaneous combustion, freezin consoles...

Meh, my first GTA experience was the first Grand Theft Auto, on the Playstation (One). And also, Grand Theft Auto: London, 1969 after that.

So I'm definitely no spring chicken. And I love love love the GTA: Online.

LOL, I was definitely older than 11...but yeah you're right! I don't miss that camera angle. GTA 5 and the online for all it's faults (and it has many) is a very worthy successor to every GTA before it.

I can't get enough of it.

Cliff notes version:

1) OP says GTA4 trolls are geniuses

2) OP says if you don't agree or dislike trolls you can't "hang" because you're a pansy/wuss/etc

3) OP is wrong on every level

Not everybody wants to be trolled all the time, regardless of what you think is the "right" way to play a game that offers choices other than your supposed "right" way to play.

How is he wrong? I think you're missing the point. People actually mingled on IV is what he is saying. I don't know what kind of sad, takes him self seriously dope can't laugh at a bit of trolling. It shows that people would interact and would try to get on eachothers nerves. What happens if you do get trolled? Well even if you don't laugh and think "What a pr!ck, ill get him back" (Like a regular person) you will still feel a sense of revenge, and that is fun to get.

IV offered a unique experience - as OP said, and I think very few but enough of us realise how special that game was. It hit the balance between putting the game in the players hands and not making all the fun obvious, and not doing too little. It made the players the dictators of fun, not showing them "how" to have fun with ranges of cars to buy and customize. Man if i think of the games I made up in IV. I'd act like a suicide bomber by coaxing someone into my car as friends and driving off and detonating. I'd get someone into my heli and fly off to somewhere to trap them as a hostage. I'd get a crew and go to one of the many interiors. The game was legendary and sadly, I don't think we will see its like again. No game online would risk doing that little again as all the mainstream noobs will be unhappy with it, which was what made it awesome.

I'm happy that you actually read the article and actually comprehended what it was I was trying to put forth in this article....Instead of just hateful bashing and name calling.....But you are entirely correct.....There aren't enough people who really appreciated IV, me personally, I'm sure you know, that judging by the tone of the article, that I absolutely love IV and still play it to this day.

I can't sit and play GTA V Online for hours on end, not like GTA IV where I was on for hours and hours a day for months and months at a time. GTA V is just wayy too boring for me to be playing it and spending even a small fraction of the time I spent with GTA IV when it came out.

.....Not sure if you were an Xbox player or PS3 Player, but do you remember just HOW MANY people lost their wives and their kids and their jobs because they were on GTA IV Online literally 18 hours a day, sometimes even 20 hours a day.....

Do you remember those good old days, back in 2008 all the way until the end of 2010.....It was just incredible how many people would LIVE on GTA IV, and I admit, I was ONE of those people...Didn't have a job at the time anyways.

But you're right, I don't think we are ever going to get a game with that much freedom and that much fun again.......GTA V just seems like a watered down version of what GTA IV is.....It's so fake and materialistic, no real competition, no real game spikers.....Just a bunch of random noobs, who you will likely, never see in the GTA V lobby again. Nobody worth remembering, let alone mentioning.

Agree completely. You could never get bored because you would make your own fun. Such a unique game. Just out of interest were you a pilot?

You played it YEARS after it came out, and only for a DAY at best. Not saying you didn't enjoy, you missed quite a bit. Your topic PROVES it. Anyone that has played this game from the first one till now will agree with me. You're new to this, we're true to it.

So your topic is one of those IV is better than V. In your opinion it is, and your view in my opinion is skewed because you didn't spend enough time with the first two games and expansions. Then you would just appreciate GTA for being GTA. If the game isn't dope enough play another game. I shouldn't keep feeding you, but I have time in between loads. And you haven't really refuted anything I've said.

Lol at the gta v defenders. I remember on the golden days of IV there was this police clan camping at there headquarters and me and my 10friends all ambushed them it was a massive shootout with explosives and such.Amazing experience, it almost puts tears in my eyes how much i enjoyed IV it felt amazing. Sometimes a player would take my helicopter at the airport and I'd be so pissed. Great Times Great times, i also remember camping at majestic hotel killing players left and right.

I even remember once the whole lobby (full lobby) tried getting in the hotel and it was a massive shootout between the whole lobby. Including the only way up was from a helicopter which made it better.

That's a bit of a dick thing to say, don't you think? You're basically saying, "I'm older than you and I enjoyed the OG GTA's, praise me for I like the first games". You were talking about music earlier so I'll use it as an example: While artists such as Michael Jackson or The Beatles don't produce music anymore, new compilation albums come out that people discover. You can't just be born and know everything, you find out about things. GTA IV came out in 2008 and some people didn't even have a PS3 or an Xbox 360. A buddy of mine got a 360 for 2010's Red Dead Redemption. Does that make him stupid? Yes, in our books, as we're R* fans and he isn't. He probably knows stuff we don't know about, though.

This is a bit off-topic and it's not directed at you specifically but one thing that annoys me is those older guys that say to younger people, "you didn't even experience the 70's!". Well of course not! There's no f*cking time machine, now is there? No one ever says a comeback to that and I finally found one: Well you won't experience the future. Plain as that. You loved the past, we'll enjoy the future. Or, you know, we might not be so different. The future will arrive but we'll remember this time; the past. We're a different generation but we'll have the same mindset over time.

I'm sorry I keep commenting on you and you alone (:p) as I already took on the OP and turns out we both love GTA IV a lot, so we got that in common. You don't really need to go back to a developers older games to enjoy his current ones. I agree it would be wise for any GTA fan to go play the older titles (especially GTA 3 as I consider it the most important GTA of all, being extremely influential on the gaming industry) but people have problems with managing time, finding the game, "wasting" money on such an old title, adapting to such old graphics, etc. A game that stands the test of time, in my opinion, is for those that played the game as a kid/when it came out. I can easily play GTA 3 any day, all day, as I played it as a kid but I never got into Vice City and I easily get bored after 30 minutes of playing. It just feels different.

Also, GTA 1 didn't have trolls because it wasn't an online game.

tl;dr

You don't have to play the first GTA's to appreciate the current ones.

tl;dr

You would have a GREATER appreciation for MJ's music, and Beatles stuff if you found an ALBUM you liked. Compilations are all the hits, and don't let you hear all of the source material. And the fact that you LOVED III, but didn't care for vice was probably the music that threw you off and the 80's setting... I hated Vice for the first 20 minutes in comparison to 3 and ended up falling in love with it. GTA 3 is the most important because it's the first 3D one, and it finally had licensed music, and it surpassed what anyone was doing. But if you played Smugglers Run, and Midnight club, and even ONI during launch GTA 3 wasn't TOO cray cray.

And I'm not even that old mid 20's Early Mid 20's And you are discussing an OLDER game IV... when plenty of time has passed.

GTA one did have local area internet, and supported more than 6 people if I remember correctly.

And you don't need to go back and understand the source material, but you could still jump in an enjoy an Alex Cross novel right now in 2014... But you'll be missing quite a bit of the back story, and foundation. Online exists now, and to you this game isn't as worthy as IV online. Cool.

But they are getting closer and closer to the original idea. IV was a little off the mark. Not with the story or Niko but it's whole structure. We got rampages back with Trevor in V... They were in SA... Vice... III.... and all the others before BUT IV... Not my only complaint with four, but it was noticeable it was omitted.

Once again, you are trying to psycho analyze me and it doesn't work for you.....Because I DID play GTA 1 in 1997, which of course I would have been 8 years old at the time......Just old enough to remember....And just so you know.....At times, I STILL PLAY GTA 1 and 2.....Very rarely 1969, Never really got into the whole London bit, though I did play when it came out, just never held my interest.....2 is a much better game.

And then in 2001 came III, which was definitely a turning point in the game.....So you're argument is invalid....I am not saying I don't like GTA V, I do love the story mode...The inclusion of heists missions, which hopefully will make the Online much more fun when they release it.....But I played GTA IV story mode and beat it close to 10 or 11 times since it came out, the expansions as well....and I am just saying that, IV and the expansions were much funner ONLINE.

Huh, turns out the PC release did have multiplayer. I look foolish.

Of course you would enjoy the source material more....goddamnit, you, I'm trying to argue here and you keep making good points.

I'll just stop here. You have defeated me.

Vice City Stories is the greatest GTA R* has made. It's set in VC, decent MP, the best radio tied with VC & has a similar story to IV (even though it came out before IV, so technically IV has VCS's story).

Basically, piss on VCS & I'll piss on your cat.

...and the Manchez f*cking rocked. Way better than avenger.

The Manchez was in LCS, not VCS.

Which is why I wrote it in a separate line.

The post I was quoting was talking about both Stories...

are you going to answer that pm?

I did type a huge 150 line reply, but I thought i'd just keep it concise.

The reason is cash cards.

Times have changed dramatically since IV. This game is mainstream now, any kid that recieved a christmas gift has it. you are not going to have the same hardcore players as IV. If you are lucky the fad will run out, and what will be left is a community of players. Unlikely.

Yes, that is true....It's been 6 years since GTA IV's release....In fact, we just celebrated GTA IV's six year anniversary last week....April 29th....It was fantastic...All the old timers from GTA IV actually got back on GTA IV for the night and it was incredible, just like old times, sort of, so to speak....But either way, we had a blast...It was fun.

I just want things to go back to the way they were on GTA IV, soo many memories on that game....I don't have one memory on GTA V multiplayer yet....No significant event that can make me look back and laugh....Nothing to grab my attention, not like the players on GTA IV, they knew how to get your attention real quick....By pissing you off.

Are you a GTA IV player? An old-timer? Were you on the Xbox or the Playstation?

Actually I did, and the idea that you want more mission griefers is just sad.

So let me get this straight....You are saying that you don't appreciate the innovative players from GTA IV and want to hide behind GTA V, because you couldn't hang in GTA IV?

This the dumbest thing I've ever read. I feel more stupid with every sentence I read. You actually think people "can't hang" because we don't like to spend hours on the game getting griefed by other players and wasting our time?? You sir, are a moron. If this is the type of fun you speak of, you have no imagination at all. Griefing isn't innovative, it's for idiots that have no imagination so they resort to ruining peoples playing time. Moron moron moron.

I'm not trying to defeat anyone. Just engage in convo, and see where everyone is at with the series, and it they have been following it. The online for IV could have been better. Glitchers ruined it for most that were playing to enjoy what ROCKSTAR had to off, not what some modder or hacker wanted to serve them. The online for V could be better.

Don't forget the online for Ballad of Gay Tony and Lost and the Damned was garb. V isn't as bad as those two online. IV as a whole to me isn't as legit as V has been. With all the DLC we have gotten, and fun little items I have been enjoying it. Sorry if some of you haven't been enjoying online. I wish Rockstar made the game for you.
