Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Eat Your Heart Out!

Anyone buy Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD? I got it for the nostalgia but it never quite took hold like the originals :(

After the Tony Hawk 2X ruined plenty about the originals I knew better than to even TRY HD... You proved me right once again, like you have in other threads.

And if you haven't played THPS since the 2nd one, you did better than I did, because for some reason I though they were going to eventually do a skate sim kinda game. I was quite dumb and naive as a child, and young teen. Which is why I owned every system up to where we are now. Dumb and thinking people were actually going to release quality on it.

You know how every person on GTA Forums insists that when someone pisses them off, they will spawn-kill them relentlessly, not getting killed even once, until that person cries and leaves the session? Yeah, well, most of us know that everyone who says that is full of sh¡t, but when it comes to the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series, and, more accurately, the Tony Hawk's Underground series, I am the man. Those are my games. The first Tony Hawk's Underground is the best, though. You can't beat me.

Ask yourselves the following questions:

Do you have hands?

You can't beat me.

Do you have hair?

You can't beat me.

Do you have a car?

You can't beat me.

Are you alive?

You can't beat me in Tony Hawk's Underground.

People on GTA Forums may talk tough, but I don't unless I can back it up.

Play me in THUG1 and you'll feel inadequate as a man.

Woah?

So post your highest combo then? I think my best one was at around 20-25 mil :)

( dont have a pic of it tho ) :/

Admit that you used the Darkslide to reset your grind.

*memories from 2001 in my head*

THPS is f*cking awesome. AMERICAN WASTELAND was the last good game from the series, all the others f*cked up bad.

Hell yea american wasteland is one of my favorite games all time and the first online game i played along with halo 2 on xbox. You have no idea just HOW much time i logged into that game. Much love for the pro skaters as well.

  • 4 weeks later...

I've been hitting a ton of new places and trying new things to reach new heights on my motorcycles.
One thing I've learned is that my Bati is better than all others for doing these things.

Second thing I've learned is not to wheelie too early and not have too much/too little speed. Timing is everything!
Anyhow, here's a shot of my newest location feat.

At first, it just looks like a photo of the building...

But if you look closer, you can see my new perch to observe the city from:

Will continue to look for more places and post here... cheers! ;)

Oh, and here's my second garage, "Fruity Pebble" garage:

I love bikes in this game, I just re-bought my akuma and I love the sound, speed and handling even though its not a wheelie king the bati sounds awful IMO. There's a stunt jump in sandy shores above a wrecked building, clear the building whilst doing flips!

Or the jump onto the light house on the NE of the map.

I used to ride a Bati all the time, but then I got an Akuma and ride that about 90% of the time. I've always loved the fact that you could jump over little things that a car would crash into, and have many escape routes for if I'm being chased and just want to get gone, but I had no idea the Bati could do *that*!

I am literally gonna buy another Bati next time I'm online. That sh*t has to be done!

I always mash my face into walls or cars. I can never achieve a jump like these on purpose.

I always mash my face into walls or cars. I can never achieve a jump like these on purpose.

I remember watching skateboarding videos when I was younger and thinking how easy they made it look. But then I saw a blooper real and Bam Margera was laughing about how it took him 500 tries on one jump just to get it right, joking about all the blood he got on the ramp.

I've learned that even in a game like this, it's the same thing. Took me so long to figure it out, but to be honest, it's opened up an entirely new game for me.

XBox Live just released a free demo called Trials Fusion, a dirtbike game with jumps and such. It's basically a physics dummy-side scroller. After giving it an hour, I dumped it off my drive and went back to GTA5 thinking, "man, I can do all that and so much more here!"

Just saying, is all. Fun is fun, period! ;)

i tried some of the stunts from that video with a bati, and then with a ruffian in singleplayer

why is this so hard D: i really want to escape a tank brigade by flying up the side of a building like that, without problem

PsstOverHere

Bought a bati after reading this thread. Holy sh*t it's fun. Finding new places off the beaten path too, like some sort of rehab center near the arts museum.

I haven't been able to repeat the feats in the videos, but that first time I ramped the hood of an oncoming car on Vinewood Blvd and soared forty feet up in the air, that was something.

I've bee doing a lot of stunting recently too.

The Bati is decent but I've got to say I think the Ruffian is a little better, it's got a slightly higher ground clearance and much springier suspension.

The better acceleration on the Bati does help but speed isn't everything, the guy in that video appears to be using a PCJ which is slower than the Bati and the Ruffian.

And for anyone wishing to try out anything like in the video, don't even bother using your Akuma, it is completely useless for stunting. :p Save it for racing.

This is GTA forums... Allow for some asinine comments and general lack of knowledge and we'll be fine... Mat Hoffman (One "t")... Nope Dave Mirra FBMX crushed it... It was done by Z Axis the same that did Rockstars Thrasher.

I loved the Matt Hoffman games, along with the Dave Mara, Kelly Slater, and Shawn Palmer games.

Back on topic, I just wanted to follow up that I've been playing almost exclusively on the Bati and the PCJ600 and one big tip in pulling off height is after you launch, keep pulling back like you were still launching. Not so far that you do a back-flip, but maintaining a balance. I've been getting more height off that little bit of info than ever!

In the video, he launches over the church/cemetery because there's a ramp there. However, if you launch from the parking lot over the bushes, you can get sick height, there. I've cleared the entire church with ease and I'm trying to time my landing on the rooftop, so I can keep a line and get more air.

--- editing: I put together a little photoshoot to help anyone who's just getting into this stuff:

1. On Prosperity St. down toward the beach/highway. There's a little place behind the Del Perro Plaza. If you set up your line, it starts off looking like this:

0_0.jpg

2. In the picture above, there's a rail that you're going to hit. Here's a closer view:
0_0.jpg

3. Get a good wheelie and hit it fast. It'll launch you up to that next platform... and if you're good, it will launch you up to the platform behind that one! Below I am at the top looking back down, where I launched from:
0_0.jpg

4. Once you make it up there, to the right are "steps" you can wheelie up to...
0_0.jpg

5. Go up those steps, and to the right there's a couple more:
0_0.jpg

6. Go up those, and there will be a gap between the buildings to jump over. You can't really see it here, but below you can see the next building:
0_0.jpg

7. Here's a shot looking back at the gap I just jumped and those steps I climbed up:
0_0.jpg

8. Eventually, you can get to the topmost part of these buildings. Once you master it, you've got access to great places to hide, use as a vantage point, or as an escape route. The best, though, is when you start "seeing" new lines open up. It's fantastic!! ;)

Here's a shot of the start of the run, where you hit that rail and launch upward. Again, pulling back will get you there quicker.
0_0.jpg

Sorry if this is a long-winded post. I'm not posting to be a show off or anything, just to maybe help anyone find a new interest in the game.

I'm having a blast and I'm happy to share. If you've got tips, PLEASE, share them. I'm loving this and would love to learn more!

Thanks and cheers! Ride on! ;)

I'm in a stupor. All that's going through my head is: How?!!! How'd you get your bike up there?!!

hey @Carmen!. Here's my "tutorial," if you're interested:

1. So, align yourself across the street, like below. You need to hit that wall at a good speed, full wheelie.

Expect to fail 9/10 times, but eventually, it takes.

0_0.jpg

2. A closer shot of the wall you need to launch over and get to the roof behind it.

0_0.jpg

3. Here's the view, looking back, after you land on that roof.

0_0.jpg

4. As you look to the left, it's kind of obvious what to do. You need to jump a gap to the red-roof ahead:

0_0.jpg

5. Here's a detail of the gap you have to jump to land on the red-roof:

0_0.jpg

6. Here's a view from that red-roof, looking back at the flat roof I just jumped from.

0_0.jpg

7. Below is a view of the next jump up to the next level of the red-roof:

0_0.jpg

8. Once you make that jump, there's only one left and that's the tricky one that requires timing, patience, fruit, and gummies:

0_0.jpg

9. Finally, once you reach the peak, you can climb down, move around the roof, and climb back up to get your bike.

0_0.jpg

10. Once you jump back down to Earth, if it's evening, be sure to catch Bongo John and his Mariachi band right below!

0_0.jpg

I hope this little tutorial is helpful for someone. I love this stuff and happy to share! CHEERS! :)

Just for fun, because as I said, I'm loving this stuff, I found that even without the ramp the player used in the video, you can actually clear the entire church in a single launch. And if you time it right, you can re-launch off the peak and get even further distance. A great new spot!

@fw3 You are one of the few people on this forum that I bother to stop and pay attention to, and those last few posts are the exact reason why.

Thanks for making this thread and for your own continuation of the awesome work shown in the video. It has literally turned GTA into a different game for me.
