Definitely. No more douchebag rammers.

Hey, if you don't want to get PITed by douchebag rammers like me, then give up the lane when I am on your bumper and trying to make a move around you.

If you insist on staying in front by any means necessary, you are going to get slammed.

I race clean when other race clean. When other races pull street tactics, then so do I.

and when I jump off a cliff, you sound like you would be happy to follow me.

Yes

not all the time but it would be nice every now and then.

THEY BETTER FORCE CATCH UP AND SLIPSTREAM OFF OR ELSE IT WILL BE GARBAGE

Yes. It'll be more about who's the better driver and not who crashes into everyone because they suck ass

The measure of what makes someone a "better driver" is not just in their ability to do lap-times without any on track competition.

Being able to lap quickly, and being able to out race and out maneuver other cars is as large a part, if not more so, in what makes someone a skilled driver.

Yeah, rammers are a-holes, but it's not that hard to out-wit those folks, and make sure they come off worse when they try and spin you. Making everyone a ghost, racing the clock, takes the racing out of races, and we're back to just having time-trials.

Just because you might be able to nail a lap 0.073 seconds faster than I did, doesn't mean you'd automatically beat me in a race.

Rockstar apparently took it off the socialclub but I saw something that intrigued me. When you check the your crew's stats on the GTA Online tab, you can see how your crew stacks up against other crews in different game modes. There are modes like deathmatches, team deathmatches, etc. The races were separated between 'Race,' 'GTA Race,' 'Rally Race,' and 'Non-contact Race.' This leads me to believe that non-contact won't be switched on or off like slipstream or catchup, but rather another type of race mode altogether. Who knows whether non-contact will have it's own set of rules? We'll just have to wait and see.

I dont like how the whiners cry for "fairness" in a GTA game. Ill never understand that.

Theres actually an art in attacking other racers as well as defending yourselves from them, and I have mastered that art. The joy I get from hitting the brakes as I watch some a**hole miss me and swerve into a tree is what makes this game special. Riding that slipstream and gaining enough speed to past someone, but instead swerving as hard as you can into their front wheel to watch them go flying... I love it. So many good times. Its a real treat when you get someone to crash so hard they explode. Ive never laughed harder playing a video game when that happens.

I mean if you don't like contact in races, you can easily race by yourself people. Thats what youll be essentially doing anyway with this non contact option. Now its just going to take longer for me to find a good racing lobby.

There's some word that's the opposite of 'look forward to.' It's not quite 'dread' but that's what I feel. Fortunately, I've hooked up with a few hardcore racers recently so I won't have to worry. In missions and normal races, I think it will make people into schitty drivers because it will train them to 'drive through' cars in the way.

I will try a couple slipstream+ghost races with one or two others, just to see what kind of top-speed we can get. That's about it though, unless they let us record our run and race against our own ghost - that would be awesome!

Every single race I've beennin since Rockstar announced this, I'll hear other players say they oppose non contact racing :/ this is sad.

I reckon it's good. About time.

Definetly am after the race I just had a mere 10 minutes ago.

I never played Long Haul 2 before, I knew it's just a massive drag race but from the 1st second of the race two guys where trying to PITT me and the other guy was trying to race clean. Basically out of four of us only me and one other guy wanted to race clean and it just ruined the race. Once 'Non Contact' is a option this wont be happening anymore. Definetly cant wait.

Depends who I'll be racing with, good, clean racers I'll prefer normal racing but random lobbies I'd rather non-contact. It will hopefully add a cool variant to racing as long as catch up and slipstream are off by default.

Yeah, that feeling when someone tries to ram you and you anticipate it perfectly, brake just at the right time, and THEY go spinning off... it's possibly one of the more satisfying things that happens in this game! :D

Excellent. :) I oppose it for the same reason I oppose the ridiculously tough cars. I can run an unarmoured car head on into another car then drive away. Laughable load of schit. Then if I have full armor, it's essentially 'scrapes only.' I want damage; if I hit a tree at full speed, regardless of armor, I should get out and walk while making a call to Mors.

Race by yourself?

I would do that if it made any difference to the amount of modifications I have to unlock, but of course it doesn't.

I don't race in public rooms because I don't agree with the Destruction Derby mentality of most other racers.

As if people need something else to blame on cash cards. "My car can't roll down Mt. Chiliad without me having to pay to have it replaced! Rockstar and their cash cards!"

I would like to know how slipstream would work with Ghost races ?

I'm assuming that when you turn non-contact off it will automatically disable both Slipstream and Catch Up, since all three at once would break the mode. But people have been breaking this game since day one, so I guess we'll see on Tuesday.

I'd love to see how your theories work in Formula1. Sure, it's not street racing, but when you're not technically allowed to push players off the road, simply using racing lines, slipstreaming and overtaking shows who's faster and better.

Ramming into someone just says you can't win without having to smash your competition against a wall or a tree.

Hell yeah. Finally we'll be able to do some more realistic racing. We'll still be able to crash into other traffic cars, street poles, fences, walls, etc., without having the sore losers try and pit you.

Why do F1 racers line up at the pole? Why not race separate or with 20 second intervals?

I look before I leap. That is why I win most of my races with randoms.

The majority of my losses come from throwing races to crew members that needed race wins to unlock vehicle mods, but its all good because we all bet money on the guy we're throwing the race to..

I actually used F1 as an example earlier.

Likening it to the difference between qualifying and racing. Some drives are qualifying demons, nailing it totally when it's just them Vs the track. It's not always the case that those people fare better come race day, in which you've got to take into account other drives, and can't always have the line you want, when you want it.

Nailing a great lap-time is a skill indeed, and one to be proud of. It doesn't guarantee you race wins though, when you've got to take other drivers into account.

And at no point did I advocate ramming... I HATE when people just ram and make no attempt to pass clean or just out-race me. That's why I spent time practicing and getting better at countering rammers, braking at the right times so THEY come off worse when they try and spin me. I wish more people would try and learn skillfull counter moves, rather than just bitching at the rammers lack of skill.

I'd rather win a race because I out raced you, and not be even within 30 seconds of the record lap, not because I did a lap a couple of hundredth of a second faster than you against your ghost.

Because there are rules in F1. We're supposed to be taking part in illegal street races, since we're all criminals and stuff.

What he said. Racing isn't always about staying in first place.

Being in first place in Lap 2 of a 5 lap race doesn't mean diddly.

Being first across the finish line is what matters. Giving up ground to gain ground later is what it is all about. If you're going to be a douche about being passed then I am going to be a douche about being the passer and vice versa.

If I give you a lane to come by me and I see that you are squaring up behind my car, then I am going to brake hard and make you spin out from the contact.

If I am trying to pass clean and you keep cutting me off, I am going to push you into a guard rail.

I would race normal if people didn't act like dicks and just spin each other out . I get that sometimes but all the time just to ruin the race is so f*cking annoying.

Anybody else think that if 'No-contact' is on, slipstream and catchup should be off? No contact with slipstream and catchup on is about as unfair as a race can get.

How in the world would everyone have different traffic? Come on man use your noggin. Racing will be exactly the same as it has been just that you cant touch the other player cars.

Why do people even race in GTA5?

I can understand racing in GTA4 because that is insanely fun, but GTA5? Where's the skill? Where's the fun?
