Non contact races? Sooooo you mean time trials...

Exactly... Without contact, blocking, overtaking and other "racing" elements... it ceases to be a race!

Might as well just create a time-trial mode if people want to race against ghosts and other folks lap-times. As much as deliberate rammers are a pain in the arse, at least you get some competitive racing action, wheel to wheel contests, daring to outbrake your rival, stealing a march on them in a corner and making a clean pass...

This new option just sounds so dull, and it takes the racing out of races.

Not really. Seems quite lame to me, how can it be called racing if they remove the possibilities of making mistakes and crashing?

Bro... You'll still hit traffic, and poles... Just not each other. With a user name like Cheater Mc Cheat, you only got your wins from contact racing. I ain't mad atcha.

Time Trials and racing are different disciplines.

It's like the difference between qualifying in F1 on the Saturday, and the race itself on the Sunday. Some drivers are great qualifiers, able to string together good lap times unopposed. It's a whole different challenge to be able to overtake, block, outbrake or otherwise outwit and out-drive your competitors.

As I said before, why not just create a new mode all together for time trial fans, and have them race against nothing but ghosts. Could have daily/weekly contests on each track, and you race against the current top 10 ghosts when you try it.

It's just not a race if there's no more to it that simple lap times by yourself.

No contact racing is crap as is racing without catch-up or slipstream.

Learn how to draft and drift and learn how to give up the lead strategically so you don't get PITed.

If you insist on boxing me in and cutting me off and you don't have enough car to pull away from me, I am going to put you into someone's front yard the first chance I get and take the lead.

Conversely, if I try to make too aggressive of a move too soon in the race, I deserve what I get.

that's a more detailed definition of it. But, technically a time trial is a race to achieve the best time. Usually a leader board logs these times, and the winner of said event is the one who achieved the fastest time. It is, in a sense, a race against the clock. Literally.

You can look forward to it or not, fact is that 98,9% of all races will look like this:

Class: Supercars
Slip-Stream: On
Catch-Up: On
Ghost Mode: Off

Yes with randoms. No with crew.

^^ This.

When I needed some wins to unlock upgrades for my second character last week I did a few playlists with randoms.. And as much as I enjoy beating the ramming idiots by racing fairly, the experience reminded me of just how much I hate racing with people who have absolutely no skill at racing other than ramming people off the road.

But when I race with my regular crew, contact will still be on, otherwise it'd quickly get boring. :D

I don't mind that some people would like to enjoy time trials as part of their GTA experience, I'd just rather it wasn't lumped into race mode. Yeah, you're "Racing" against the clock, but it doesn't feel like you're in a competition with the others on the grid, and doesn't feel like what "racing" is to me.

My fear is I'll go to the menu, and join a race like I do, only to find they are just all turning GHOST on... When I click that race menu, I wanna race people, not clocks. Time-trial should be a separate mode, and I wish anyone who wants to do it a damn good time at it.

I'm on PSN... if you enjoy that kinda racing send me a PM, and we'll set it up. But I think everyone has the contact thing outta wack. Lemme explain. I constantly have LEGIT lap times, and NEVER have to use dirty tricks, or cut corners, unless the race calls for it. I have think in my WHOLE time playing online since day one, I think 5 people outta my 100+ plus races have bested my time. I'm pretty sure slip stream will work still, and be more HONEST because most slip stream and INTENTIONALLY ram the guy in front, and claim... "Hey you were going too slow..." or "I didn't even know the turn was coming, or that sharp."

Both poor excuses for a horrible driver.

I more often than not outbreak most, and if I KNOW you are slip streaming me too heavy before a SHARP corner, and I've seen bad driving from you the previous corners, I'll let you pass so I can take the race late. How many people in this topic even posted their racing strats? None, because the ones that don't understand how great no contact is are complete scrubs.

FilthyEsquire, is my Social tag... check the stats. I would race more if most of the people actually could you know drive with skill.

No, if I want to play non-contact races I will play Track Mania.

We gotta RACE! You did Nurburgring? NICE! I raced it three days ago. Unfortunately the other guys racing it with me weren't as skilled. I killed that track.

ITS THE SAME ASSHATS THAT LEAVE CATCHUP N SLIPSTREAM ON THAT GODDAMN PIT PEOPLE!!! If u have a problem about how "98"% of races will end up then MAKE YOUR OWN RACE! For people saying it's gonna be a time trial TURN THE TRAFFIC ON!!!

Goddanm people who aren't EVEN OLD ENOUGH to play the game, stay bitchin about EVERY NEW feature and how it's a downfall.

If the race you end up in is like a ghost trial then it's because u or the asshat host likes playing leapfrog.

To clarify for all non comprehensive kids on this forum:

Turn traffic on.

Turn catchup off.

Turn slipstream off.

Turn ghost mode on.

A race is, to me, about getting to the finish line before the others from the same starting grid. It really is that simple to me.

Many, many times, I've come 2nd or worse, and still managed to get the * lap time for that race. Yeah, sometimes that's a catchup boost giving the stragglers (who prolly got spun at the start) a speed increase on the final lap, other times it's because you've got more clear track ahead of you while the leaders are too busy jostling each other to nail their lines perfectly. A lot of the time it's just because I drove well in that particular race.

My reaction to having the best lap-time and not coming first? I failed. I Lost. I didn't win, someone else got there first. Is the fact my best lap was quicker than his a consolation? Nope, not at all.

I'd rather win a competitive and hotly contested race, 45 seconds slower than the lap record, than light up the lap time screens with records and stars.

Well, do you?

I sure look forward to see my winrate become even higher!

Do you think you will win more, or less when it's

enabled?

What makes you think your "winrate" (not a real word btw) will become higher??????

Everyone else was in the same boat as you and now everyone is in the same boat as you still. It's not like you're the only one getting smashed before and it's not like you're the only one who is going to be able to ghost race.

Everyone's win/loss ratio is stay about the same.... it's just that races will be less frustrating.

1. hardly "lame." that's like saying the option to have night or daytime options is lame. it's an option that many people, like me, having been waiting for since launch of GTA4 multiplayer.

2. mistakes and crashing will still be 100% part of the game. if you don't slow down in a turn, you will crash. simple.

3. the elimination of bad drivers, dirty drivers, impatient drivers, unsporting drivers, or preoccupied drivers will only make the experience better.

There's nothing worse than racing with a bunch of really good drivers, except that one toolbag who either pits everyone at the start of the race or, in a lap race, has to drive the wrong way and ruin in for everyone else because they are losing. It happens all the time and has been like that since GTA4.

In most of the actual racing games, going the wrong way is not permitted. It would be interesting if GTA racing did not allow that, either. hmmm.

Personally, I can't wait for this feature.

you hold a very valid point, and I must say I do agree with you. But, I predict with the antics of the majority of GTA players that many will leave it off.

The more I think about it, the more a (separate) time-trial mode could be quite fun... If racing as it is was left alone, I'd welcome the addition.

I was picturing perhaps a mode like they had on Tiger Woods games, where there'd be tournaments/leaderboards to compete on against other people, without them having to be playing live with you. Sometimes you can enter as many times as you like to improve your score (lap-time), but others would be competitions, and you'd get limited entries. So perhaps there could be an elite time trial contest where you got say, 3 laps, and that's yer lot. Fastest unhindered lap of the day/week wins a nice cash prize and a bucket of RP?

Totally up for something like that in addition to races, just don't want races to be watered down with this new mode.

Definitely. No more douchebag rammers.

Hey, if you don't want to get PITed by douchebag rammers like me, then give up the lane when I am on your bumper and trying to make a move around you.

If you insist on staying in front by any means necessary, you are going to get slammed.

I race clean when other race clean. When other races pull street tactics, then so do I.

Yes, I feel like it'll mix things up a bit.

As I said previously, I can only see positive outcomes from including it as an option.

Also, catchup and slipstream is lame.

Yeah like racing via quick match is a show of skill over who doesn't get smashed and pitted 20 times.

Making it 100% passive will do nothing to show skill either.

Quick job is not meant to be that anyway. If you want it to be 100% skill join a racing crew and race with them with contact left on.

I look forward to it. The amount of times I have lost 'cause of dirty racers on the last lap, or crashed trying to get revenge. I also look forward to seeing cars with really bright colours mixing together lol.
