That "Countryside" feeling

Serious question.

Although it hasn't been done to any GTA game so far. Can Rockstar increase our current map with a DLC? Add a chunk of new land somewhere.

It's a huge long shot, but I'd like to ask anyone here who might have game programming and development experience.

I marked out some areas which could be used. I used the east coast because there's nothing on the edge of the map but empty hills or beaches which could be replaced by merging more landmass and adding dirt roads going through them there. The underwater sections would only be moved to the new edge. The west coast has a highway so having that big ocean view counts towards it.

How I wished the 5 map was.

san+andreas+remake.jpg

The extra northern city is supposed to be Sacramento.

BTW, it's unfinished.

Youre dreaming. Current gen could never support anything that big. I dont even think next gen would unless you didnt want any detail at all. Talk about lots of room that would be so bland and boring

I never said they should. I said that I wished. Plus, the FUEL map is WAY bigger and it's on last gen. It would be more realistic because you would feel like you are alone. Which is what countryside feels like.

Do you actually understand what country side is?

And yes, the Fuel map is larger. It is also significantly less detailed.

The middle of nowhere. Which is what GTA 5 needs. I never feel alone unless i'm on top of a mountain.

Look at that GTA 4 map mod. That's how I would of wanted the desert.

Islands, that’s part of what made SA feel bigger, you could only go from one part of the map to another on a limited number of routes. The same thing made IV feel large as well. In V you can get just about anywhere by driving directly from point A to B.

I also agree with the posts about getting out and walking around. The trails near the observatory feel very much like the country if you actually take the time to walk them. Walk through Raton Canyon and you’ll have no doubt that you’re in the wilderness. Park the Adder and you’ll see just how vast the map really is, or don’t and just come here and complain.

No, countryside is not "the middle of nowhere". Countryside is rural area.

You people think everything is complaining. I'm giving my opinion on why the countryside doesn't feel like it should.

Since when is being in an area where you are likely to run into other people, or encounter signs of civilization frequently the middle of no where?

take a boat out into the ocean until you can't see the coastline any more. i did that once. theres nothing out there. nothing spawns. just empty.

Would've been better if there were cargo ships coming into Port of Los Santos, US Navy aircraft carriers, fishing boats, recreational boats etc. Ocean is waste :/

Lulz according to an interview back in August the Ocean will stay a waste for a looooong while haha

"In the single-player, you've mapped underwater as well - will there be underwater gameplay in GTA Online?

We're not really pushing the underwater side right now, but once we get the first batch of content out - which is going to be a lot; hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of missions - then we'll start looking at some other things. Underwater. Getting all the subs going. They're all there, it's all ready to go. And underwater's kind of cool. I think we're going to find that a lot of people like underwater, so I think it's an area that we might utilise in future."

I am currently an intern 3D modeller and I have a few friends who program games. So I have my share of knowledge.

Simple answer:

Yes, it can be done. However, not the way you propose.

Long answer:

Grand Theft Auto 5/Online features Southern San Andreas. I once made a post that we will probably see Northern San Andreas and Eastern San Andreas in the future.

they will not change the ocean borders; that's unbelievably much work. however; the coast lines of the northern and eastern part are made that way, that new land mass can easily be attached. however; we will probably only see connections with bridges and boats. Not landmass connections.

Why do I think this is possible:

first: Map size has only to do with disc limitations, NOT RAM.

secondly: The northern part is only partly seabed, the rest is not used ocean. When you venture from the coast, there is soon no seabed to be found. This is however not the case anywhere on the west/south coast. Here the seabed goes a long way out of the coast.

Third: in another thread we already discussed this, we found a few leads which pointed towards Map DLC, including Northern San Andreas.

Northern San Andreas would feature hills, dense forests and maybe even snowy areas.

Fourth: San Fierro is mentioned multiple times in the HD universe and said that it is IN NORTHERN SAN ANDREAS.

Disclaimer:

We didn't found any evidence for Eastern San Andreas, including Las Venturas. However, in my personal opinion, I think that Rockstar does the right thing when they include these in the game. It would bring back a lot of players, and they would make a ton of money.

Disclaimer 2:

It is highly possible that GTA Online will come to current Generation. Especially because R* said they would make GTA Online last forever/ A long time.

EVIDENCE:

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/423020/gta-v-interview-rockstar-north-president-leslie-The Benz-on-gta-online/

A few IMPORTANT quotes from the article:

"GRAND THEFT AUTO ONLINE IS A DIFFERENT ENTITY, A SEPARATE THING. IT'S NOT PART OF GTA V. IT'LL GROW ON ITS OWN..."

"WE ALREADY HAVE PLANS FOR WHAT THE NEXT WORLD HOLDS... WE'VE GOT A BUNCH OF OLD STUFF WE'RE TOYING WITH USING..."

"We're just going to add on new things to it, new places all the time. We've set this up so there are no limitations. The only limitation is the size of the disc and how much memory we've got. We could, if we wanted, simulate the entire world, different countries, whatever."

"Well, one thing we've toyed with - and we've talked about this before, so it isn't a spoiler - is (the ambition) to grow this world until it's the world."

Fuel is alot like minecraft. The map loads around you. Only unlike minecraft loaded chunks dont stay loaded. Only key buildings and landmarks stay. The terrain changes each time you load an area. This is why fuel had the biggest map ever

I never felt alone anywhere. Kill the only other guy on top of the mountain, or (accidentally) blow up your car? Cops are on to you within a minute or so.

TBH I don't mind areas of the map to be procedurally generated, we're just looking for lots of open spaces to run around in anyway. Make these sparse, "less important" areas procedurally generated, then the "more important" areas like Sandy Shores or other small towns/trailer parks more detailed and well modelled.

The desert was originally bigger but it had to be condensed for our out-dated consoles.

Then why did they do it right with SA? It felt like you were driving for miles in the desert.

Just look at SA compared with V. If V had the low level of detail SA has, there would be a lot more in it.

SA was made 10 years ago and it still managed to capture the feeling of being alone. No doubt the SA map could be recreated by the devs for 5 with hd. Yes, if 5 had low graphics like SA, they could easily manage a map 3 times bigger than the current one. But they could of just took out some of the useless things in the map. The only place that I can get the feeling of countryside is here.

GTA_V_Map1.jpg

Notice how it has practically nothing around it. If R* would of removed the satellite dishes, some of the billboards, removed one of the airstrips runways, and took out a few of the small towns, the map would feel way bigger, and they might be able to have the data to make the city bigger.

i dunno dude. just take a 4 wheel drive car or a motorcyle and just go offroading.

after a while, when i do this. i feel completely isolated on top of a random ridge in middle of nowhere.

ivarblaauw - Thank you for the response.

The quotes from Rockstar you posted, I know them well. It gives me hope. As did you.

So the new land will either be immensely big like our current San Andreas map with a new city (San Fierro) or they will add suitably sized island to the current map.

Good.

You're getting me hyped up and hopeful already! Can you imagine if they added a landmass the size of GTA V's current landmass for each of the other two cities in GTA San Andreas? San Andreas (and Rockstar's Nevada) will now start to truly look huge and spectacular! :panic:

This made me laugh so hard. A lot of people like under water pffft. It wouldn't be so bad if they let us explore it with scuba stuff or had incentives to do stuff under water. but as of now (and i guess the foreseeable future) it will remain that way.

My guess is that Northern San Andreas will look a lot like North Yankton (without snow) and big forest areas. San Fierro will be there too.

Las Venturas and its countryside will feature a lot of models from the RDR game. (Desert area, plains)

This is what I think Rockstar will do.

Darkwar;

GTA Online and GTA V doens't feature the countryside which you seek. Not even the biome.

I think you mean this:

image_145318_thumb_wide620.jpg

FlintRange-GTASA-northwards.jpg

The closest we get to this is this:

Grapeseed-east.jpg

8w3iixd.jpg

I think that with a map dlc this will be achieved however. What I mean is that I think Northern San Andreas will feature more of this: (pics from RDR)

Rdr_tall_trees00.jpg

maxresdefault.jpg

9413680725.jpg

First of all; the forest is way more dense than we currently see in Paleto. Also the biome is all different.

Grapeseed, Paleto and Sandy Shores are all fine towns (IMO Paleto the best one) but the biome is all different. there can't grow big forests there; it's way to dry.

For bigger forests, great plains and snow, you will need to go to Northern San Andreas (there the weather is less dry).

Southern San Andreas can never give you the feeling of GTA San Andreas because GTA SA features 3 biomes in stead of 1 in GTA V.

GTA V features a desert; but it is not the desert type of GTA SA (Las Venturas and it's surrounding country side). Those were canyons.

The forests in GTA V are also way different than in GTA SA, because it is, as stated earlier this post, another biome.

This said. For big changes we need to see Northern San Andreas (San Fierro) or Eastern San Andreas (Las Venturas).
They are both named in GTA IV, EFLC and V that they exist in the state of San Andreas.

My guess is that we will see them as (expensive) map DLC in the future. Or as an add on/ stand alone (like EFLC). I.E.: GTA V: Las Venturas or GTA V: San Fierro.

My guess is that an add on is more likely because R* can ask a higher price for this.

Hope you liked my post and understand what I meant and thought :).
