He doesn't necessarily rate him above Lukaku. I'm sure Mourinho would have loved to have kept Lukaku, but he's young and he wants to be able to play games and be a regular starter. He wouldn't have got that with Chelsea. Letting him go was a move which benefited Lukaku as well as us. He gets to play games and be happy and we received a nice healthy sum of money. Just because he let him go and kept Torres (so far), it doesn't mean he thinks Torres is better than Lukaku.

Why didn't Mourinho keep and play Lukaku last season? Chelsea's striker options were Eto'o, Torres and Ba (legend) Lukaku would get in front of them three any day but I gotta' say, youse did do some nice business with him. £28M was a fair price for both Everton and Chelsea.

We're not Arsenal though. It's just that we happened to have good players who were no longer guaranteed a starting place. Before Mou came back, I think the combined total of all players we sold is less than what we have sold in the last 2 transfer windows.

Hopefully this is bullsh*t. It doesn't make sense selling a player who we've had since a young age but keep Chicharito who has been at the club for four years and is unhappy. Welbeck offers way more than Chicharito so if we're going to sell a striker then I would rather see Chicharito go.

4. When we got promoted to Second division three years ago after being 18 years without playing in Second Division.

Last season Lukaku did have a better season than the 3 strikers at Chelsea, but hindsight is a wonderful thing. At the start of last season Lukaku had only had 1 good season with WBA, that wasn't enough to gamble on and say "Ok, Lukaku, you're our number 1 guy now" and whilst it might have been enough for him to be our back up or still play a fairly prominent role, I think Mourinho just preferred some experience with Eto'o and also wanted to give him the opportunity to continue getting regular football. Plus just because he did well at WBA and then Everton, it doesn't necessarily mean he would have been amazing at Chelsea or done just as well. Different teams, totally different pressures and stuff.

 

It also looked like we would be ok with what we had. Torres the previous season scored around 20 goals (although mostly in Europa League) and it looked like he was getting back to somewhere resembling a decent striker. Eto'o looked like he'd be decent back up, and to be fair he din't do too bad considering it was his first season. Nothing special but he did do ok.

 

So it was a case of thinking what we had was ok and wanting to give Lukaku, who was still largely unproven, the chance to develop more.

Lukaku didn't need to be the number one guy though (he didn't even need to be the number two guy) and I'm sure he could of gained experience for Chelsea without having to be loaned out for the whole season. Yes Chelsea had three strikers but even at the start of last year it wasn't like they where three strikers that would scare alot of teams. If I was Chelsea I would of kept Lukaku last season for the first half of the season atleast and then loaned him out for the second half if he wasn't playing well enough or the other strikers you had where banging them in left right and centre.

 

In your last line you say he was still largely unproven. Ok he only had one full season but still that one season was already much better than anything that Torres had/has done in a Chelsea shirt. I think loaning him out last year was a big mistake by Mourinho.

Okay fair enough. So it's obvious Lukaku thought he should be number one striker last season but Mourinho couldn't guarantee he would be a starter every week so he thought he would develop more at Everton. Makes sense (Don't think you've answered that question from me before)

 

Chelsea can't sell Torres just like how we can't sell Nani, Young (might turn out to be a good thing with Young), Cleverley etc. It all comes down to wages.
