was weird to see AS Trencín's name on the front page of footballing news this morning (thanks to Huddlestone!). I went to one of their games a few years ago when they were playing in Slovakia's second division, and now they're hosting premier league clubs! Must be pretty surreal for their fans. Hope they bash Hull in the return leg

Bale is 25, in La Liga he got 15 goals from 27 games, in Europe 6 from 12 games, he's not a even a striker, without him Real Madrid wouldn't have won some of the cups they won last season, the transfer paid for him was what was demanded by Spurs yeah it was a ridiculous amount of money but football is now a million pound business, and to say he's the most over priced player is just stupid considering his first season returns for the club and future potential !

Just because Spurs demanded doesn't mean that Bale is a £100 million pound player. In my opinion there are only two players in the world that are worth £100+ million and they are Messi and Ronaldo.

Let's not forget before Real Madrid bought Bale he only had one really good season, the others were quite average, so yes he is overpriced.

I don't care how well he did last season. He'd have to do something incredible to justify his worth. Like Hodgey said only 2 players at the moment are actually worth 100M.

 

He also nearly lost Real the CL final. Despite the goal he was way below par and he wouldn't even have got the goal in the first place had it not been for Di Maria.

Even though I personally rate Ronaldo over Messi, I wouldn't pay 100M for a 29 year old.

As regards what a player is worth, it's all clouded by the buying and selling clubs. If the player is worth a lot to a club in sheer 'one man team' performances (a la Bale, Suarez at times) and the interested club has a load of dough (Real/Barca etc) then they'll go for a lot.

 

Good player but surplus to requirement and a cheap-ass club after them (Sanchez or Ozil to Arsenal) then we don't see huge money.

 

That's even before age.

 

Bale was worth the transfer fee to Spurs. He wasn't worth it for Real (no disrespect to Bale but the calibre of Real means you start to get less bang for your buck when you bring in players as the starting XI is already so good).

I think Bale is one of the best players in the world. I really do. He showed at RM last season he can score in their league. He is worth the transfer.

IMO I would say the only other player worth the high transfer is Ronaldo.

 

Lampard is getting paid by City at his new club anyway, so why not bring him back to train at City, makes perfect sense to me.
