This kind of amounts are killing football. It's a very slow and full of bling death but it's a death without a doubt.

Football needs a salary cap and a transfer cap. Right now the very purpose of the sport is defeated cause it's not anymore about the best but about the richest.

National championships became a private challenge among just a handful of teams in most countries.

European titles can be won only by the same teams year after year.

It's just a poor spectacle and the worst part is that it is presented to the fan like the greatest show on Earth.

Well it's not. It's garbage.

£63 million. Considering how he was probably the best player at the world cup, I don't think it's that much

I mean Sit Down was great track, pretty much up there with the best of 90's music, but £63m?

Good deal by the band if you ask me.

Well said.

It's a pity, that the game has become more like a business than a sport.

It's sad because the people who grew up with clubs and always got the tickets, have to pay more and more each season because not only are the transfer fee's very high, the wages are ridiculous too. There's a huge competition not only between clubs, but leagues too, it's all money, and it's all about getting as much as they can from India, China and America.

One day football might get so bad it becomes like boxing, and instead of the business men just owning clubs, they will starting owning competitions too.

£63 million. Considering how he was probably the best player at the world cup, I don't think it's that much

He was simply the WC top scorer which doesn't automatically make you the best player. 80M€ is way too much for a player that hasn't still confirmed himself as a valuable asset at the top level in club football.

Then you have to compare amounts like this one to the budget of most small and medium teams and you get an idea of how ridiculous the whole system has become.

Maradona in the 80s was bought by Naples with what today would be about 5M€ (Possibly about 10 or 15 with the inflation).

It was the very first big transfer in football history.

At the time it was considered a scandal cause that was a lot of money.

But if you really look at it, 15M is a whole lot of money even today.

Majority of big European teams are actually losing money every year... Fans should just turn their backs at football for one season and you would see things changing.

Not surprised Real paid that much for him. They saw a young player who killed it in the world cup, thought he would fit right in the team which he would tbh, and fearing Barcelona's cash spree, they overpaid.

This is going to live on forever until the Spanish league fixes up big time, which at the moment sounds like a myth.

Ever since Ronaldo's move to Real, the transfer market has exploded. Until they stop, like you said, the prices will keep going up and up. Luckily, it doesn't look like it's effected the Premier League too much. We only get the cash influxes.

These transfer sums are getting lame now. I heard Fiorentina wants 43 Million for some back I've never even heard of..

clubs should just boycot that sort of bullsh*t amounts for those kind of players.

You have to look at the fact on how valuable the player is to the club. If you have a smaller club with a great player obviously they'll want to hold on to them so they stick these ridiculous price tags on them. Then with clubs like PSG, Man City, and Real which have damn near unlimited funds other clubs take advantage and demand ridiculous sums of money.

Then you have buy out clauses and other things that rack up the price. It's not as simple as a big club saying "Oh we want to spend 80 million euros on him, and 100 million on the other."

Bale, leading guy at Spurs, perhaps their only hope of playing CL football. He's priceless to them, he wanted to leave, why not ask for crazy amounts of money?

Neymar, the supposed next big thing in football, again they'll ask for crazy amounts.

As long as there's big clubs there's going to be big signings. Even with caps they'll be big money moves year in year out. Or clubs will work ways around them with payment plans or something alike.

I'm sorry, but if you've never heard of Juan Cuadrado you're not that much into football, are you? He's been magnificent for Fiorentina over the last two years and is one of (if not) the best winger in the Serie A. I agree though that €43m is too much.

I agree with most of you guys. However... in some way or the other, it has always been like this, at least in my country. In the 21st century, only Deportivo La Coruña (1), Valencia CF (2) and last year Atletico de Madrid (1) have won league tittles... IN 14 YEARS!

Football should not be a, "Either you have a lot of money or you are NOT going to win anything" sort of thing.

Dont forget too that a lot of these prices are buy outs which are in players contract.

Its standard practise by clubs now.

Saurez had one which was 70m (ish) thats what he went for. Its not if hes worth the price but its what the club have added to his contract.

" We will pay you 100k a week, but we wont lose when we sell"

It will become more and more common in the next few years.

I'm very into football. Not very into Serie A. Eredivisie/Bundesliga/La Liga/Premier League and Ligue 1 I follow, not a fan of the Serie A.

"CR7 + Bale + James = 265 million.

Total cost in the history of Ajax (established in 1900) = 232 million"

Yeah we've been heavily linked with Cuadrado. I haven't seen him play apart from in the World Cup where he impressed.
