Has there ever been a manager who made a comeback from his retirement?

I really hope Lahm steps in, when it is 2016 and we haven't found a decent replacement for him, which will be extremely difficult, since he is one of the worlds best defenders on the right side and talent is rare on this position. He can play at least two or three years more on an international high level.

He was a good captain, because he was always fair (no red card in his whole career), the football always came first for him, he never created any bad news in the news tabloids.

As for the new captain, it must be Schweinsteiger. He has been the unofficial leader for many years and he is always working his ass of, as seen in the world cup final. It doesn't matter if he has only a few years to go in football. We don't need a young captain. A true leader can take responsibility at any time.

I would lose a lot of respect for him if he makes a comeback in 2016. It would look like he just wanted to avoid the "unimportant" qualification. If he wants to retire, fine. But if he comes back in 2016 and thinks he will be regarded as the holy saviour of the nation, he can f*ck off. Boateng can play on the right aswell. Or let Höwedes play as a RB and give Durm a shot at LB. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

If Lahm comes back at the Euro 2016 then it would be, because he is needed and the coach wants it. Lahm can't retire from Bayern and only play for the national team. It does only work the other way. If we have two right defenders on Lahms level in 2016, everything will be fine and can be sippin' on cocktails, but if not he should think about a comeback, even if it is only for this tournament. He would be probably even more fit, if has only to play for the club, which still makes up the majority of the games.

I always think it's a pity when players retire from international football, before their time. I don't understand Lahm's decision at all. He still has plenty of good years left in him, there's no need to retire from the national team. It almost seems selfish in a way, because it's like he wants to prolong his club career by sacrificing his international career. That's the only reason I can think of as to why he'd do it. Doing that sort of thing is maybe somewhat understandable when you're like 32-33 or older, but he's still pretty young really.

Maybe a doctor or someone has told him something or advised him, I don't know . It does just seem very strange though.

Why did sunderland spend 14 million on borini?

On the other side you have to say that he has still plenty matches to play with Bayern: Bundesliga, DFB Pokal, Champions League, Audi Cup, Fifa club world cup (last year)

I expected lahm to stay on atleast till Euro 2016, maybe even the 2018 WC.

Just visited the Military Crisis in Ukraine-thread. Do you guys know what happens to Shaktar Donetsk this season? I mean there's no way they will be playing CL-football this year, am I right? Has UEFA already decided about that? If I was a CL-opponent I would refuse to travel to the sh*thole that is the eastern part of Ukraine.

Apparently games will be played in Ukraine including the affected areas active in the civil war/conflict whatever you want to call it, which I find quite bizarre considering the situation. Israeli teams have been banned form playing games in Israel due to security concerns with the current conflict there, so why hasn't the same happened with Ukraine? It's not fair to expect teams to travel to what is effectively a f*cking war zone. Any European games being played in Ukraine would raise some question marks, but especially in the East of the country. Tbh I think they will change their minds about this, because it's just too risky and especially with what's tragically happened in the last few days. Until someone decides otherwise though, the games will be played there. UEFA have said that Russian and Ukrainian teams won't be able to be drawn together though.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28350464.

Edit: After another quick search, I think what UEFA have said is that games will have to be played in "safe" cities in the west of Ukraine.

I'm surprised that UEFA and FIFA haven't banned Russian team honestly.

And give up all that "money" that the Russians have given to help their glorious bid make World Cup 2018

I don't understand the amounts in the PL anyway. Like the Luke Shaw transfer, it's insane.

I have no clue why Sunderland are prepared to pay that amount for Borini, but the transfer market is absolutely nuts nowadays, not that I'm moaning, as a red I accept that £14 million with open arms!

In other news we're supposedly finalisng a deal for Lovren for £20 million. Good player but a bit steep if you ask me. Southampton are doing well selling their players for well above their value, it'll be interesting to see what they bring in from it, as they've definitely been hit hard.

You're overpaying. You'd be better of getting some of our Eredivisie World Cup's bargains.

Stefan de Vrij is still available (Selected best world cup defender)

I'd rather see him go to Liverpool than a club like Lazio Rome.

The reason why Luke Shaw had a high price tag was because the way he played at Southampton means at United, he is going to be a fantastic long term prospect, and people have already witnessed that. The market for British players especially is nuts, but if you look in the right place, it'll be worth the money and United have a sh*tLOAD of money ever since the kit deal with Adidas. 750 mill 10 year deal is just staggering.

Yeah fair enough but still, the fact that English players cost more than non-English players doesn't make much sense anymore now that the national team of England has been mediocre.

I know. It is ridiculous considering foreign players are dominating the market. Bale had to be the most expensive British player of all time when he signed for Real Madrid. Can you honestly believe that Ronaldo went to Madrid for 20 million less than Bale? :D:D

LOL!

Just saw the new kits for Spanish Second Division team CD Lugo

Two things FYI:

- The "Estrella Galicia" sponsor is a popular beer in the the region of Spain where this team is from (Galicia).

- "Fair style octopus" is a very typical food from the Region of this team, that's why they decided to put the octopus in their jersey.

I think they look funny but hey i bet everybody's reaction is to laugh at them in a good way and not in a disrespectful manner.

Woodward was making some bold statements last night on his MUTV interview. He was talking like we've got some big signings lined up... would you take £20M and Shinji for Hummels, Der_Don? :p

Bale's transfer was atrocious. Typical Real Madrid. Argue all you want but no matter how good Bale performed last year, he is nowhere near worth his price. probably around 50 million at best.

A midfielder for a defender is a bad idea, especially Kagawa. He is a really good player but he wasn't used that much last season. Maybe under Van Gaal, he could change.

Yeah I know. I'm a fan of Kagawa but so is Klopp. That's where all the rumours come from, it's either cash + Shinji for Reus or cash + Shinji for Hummels.

I doubt Reus or Hummels would leave Bayern. Yes Kagawa used to play for Dortmund and he was frustrated at United last season but I think he might hang around another year or so, see if they get CL football.

But Reus and Hummels aren't leaving Dortmund, I'm pretty sure about that. For this season at least.

No, but you can have Gündogan!

CL isn't a problem. If Kagawa wanted to leave then he could easily but he wants to stay and the club want him to stay.

I hope he gets more chances in his preferred position or van Gaal finds some way to fit him in, the talent is there and that's the frustrating part!

Doc Rikowski

Cost of players nowadays is ridiculous considering most of them are just average compared to players of the past.

So Evra leaves us for Juventus :( The positives in this transfer is that this could mean Vidal is going the other way since the announcement of this transfer was delayed for weeks and I doubt we would sell them a great player who has been nothing but class for United on the cheap without getting our main target.
