haha, we're not going to win sh*t without a decent striker upfront. Not to mention, our midfield had a below average day.

 

If we're not going to buy a striker in January like Mou has been saying all along, then I guess our only priority this season is to ensure a CL spot for next year, which is going to be a struggle in itself. Fingers crossed.

Eto'o was always going to be a stop-gap arrangement which isn't working like Mou hoped. I doubt they ever had any plans of renewing his contract next year anyways.

As for Schurrle, he needs to work on his finishing before he can be consistently played up front. Also, given his small frame, he doesn't really have the strength to hold the ball up. He's more suited to the wings.

 

It's not about how many forwards, but having the right forward who we can count on to score goals when needed. As for conceding goals, that's going to happen when you have everyone going forward to create opportunities one after the other but no one available who can put the ball in. We can probably win more matches with a boring 1-0 scoreline if we bring back Jose's old defend-like-your-life-depends-on-it strategy, which is actually what he seems to be seriously considering right now because nothing else seems to be working.

I'd wager I've watched more Chelsea games than you have this season, not that it matters. You shouldn't be so defensive.

 

I know Ba is crap, so is Eto'o, and so is Torres. I was more making an observation about how Chelsea keeps signing crappy forwards. Its not as if they have not been active in the transfer market.

Are you forgetting also about David Luiz, a natural defender, that can play that position? For the other two, it is not as if a defensive midfielder cannot make a forward play. Playing them that far deep means they are being played in a defensive position, regardless of what their natural position is.

 

I wouldn't call Lampard defensive. You could make a case for all the others.

 

Compare Cheslea's formation to most any other top level team right now and then say it is an attacking formation.

Girl, how are you not getting this? It IS an attacking formation by Chelsea's standards. Did Ancelotti deploy the 4-2-3-1 to sit back and defend? No. It worked well for us back then because, even though we didn't have as good attacking mids back then as we do now, we had Drogba who knocked in 29 goals that season. Every manager since then has tried to emulate the same with little success. We're missing that killer instinct in the final third. The only option remaining to stem the leakage of goals is to switch to the standard defensive formation and 4-2-3-1 is not it.

Scoring more goals so you don't have to worry about a leaky defense and can concede more is not really the answer and is sort of backwards logic. Instead of fixing the leaky defense, you are saying to sign more forwards and attacking players to compensate for it.
