Of course you can compare, don't be silly.

There's no official record kept by FIFA of goals scored in a calendar year, and there's no record of every goal scored in every game, so they don't recognise Messi, Mueller or Pele's records anyway. The source that had Mueller as the record holder was probably a bit of lazy journalism.

Zvezda doing what Chelsea could not. Ha! I know it's a bit of a dummy tournament, but seeing Chelsea suffer gives me greater pleasure than United winning the derby last week, to be honest. Suck it, stu. wink.gif

Obviously it would never happen, but I wonder what Messi would be like in the Premier League. He wouldn't score anywhere near as much.

Not a Barcelona fan btw but the whole "Messi won't play as good in the EPL" was proven wrong multiple times, first when he raped Arsenal's defence and scored 4 goals against them in one match, and second when David Silva and Aguero joined Man City and played just fine. The EPL is nothing special, RVP already scored 30+ in one season, Messi could easily score 40+ in one EPL season, Barcelona already proved they're leagues ahead of any English team. (Le' bus Chelsea beat them 1-0 last year I know but my local team can do that (once) if they used the same sh*tty defensive tactics, it won't work out for 38 matches in a row and you know it)

Yeah, he's played well against teams in the PL, but I don't think he would play as well playing 30+ games in the PL and I don't think he would score as much. That was the point I was trying to make. I didn't say he would play sh*t, just not score as much as he is doing at the moment.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I love the Arabic Commentators, they are as crazy as the Mexicans.

As for Messi, we'll see what he's like when City sign him... well we're the only ones that could afford him.

yeah he's signing a lifetime contract with the barcawhores....

keep tapping up our players instead, we've not got any decent strikers left, so you can help yourself to anyone you like for a usually overpriced fee.

Just chuckled at a fail rumor by the Daily Star.

"Hernandez is ready to leave the club in January."

False as f*ck. Like people aren't gullible enough.

Yeah it's bullsh*t but wouldn't surprise me if a team like Madrid came in with a big offer in the summer.

Oh there will be offers, but I know for a fact he won't leave. He's one of my favourite players of the whole squad. icon14.gif

Fergie's pretty adamant that he isn't buying anyone in January. I don't think we need anyone to be honest, just hoping there aren't any long term injuries between key players.

I wouldn't personally say Madrid, but a number of clubs would want a goal scorer like him, even if that is all he does.

it'll be welbeck if we lose anyone up front - and that will be when we get lewandowski

(or falcao - ok fat chance)

Fergie is so adamant that I am convinced he will buy, but for like the reserve team.

Still think United needs a play-maker in the center of midfield. As much as Cleverley is getting better, I still can't see him putting in good performances on a consistent basis.

Rumour is that United and Arsenal are looking at Kevin Strootman from PSV. Would be a great pickup for either team.

But Madrid could do with a player like Chicharito.

Aye, I do see a lot of promise in Cleverley, so much potential. We have youngsters such as Powell and Tunicliffe that show potential promise but it will be a few years yet until they're introduced to first team football - that's if they stay at United.

Fellaini banned for three games due to his actions against Ryan Shawcross at the weekend. Well deserved. You can't do things like that on a football field and expect to get away with it.

Double post, big whoop.

It is kind of weird that no one else here highlighted the final between Corinthians and Chealsea dor the FIFA World Club Cup, considering that this championship is pretty glorified here in Brazil, but it seems to have little to no attention for the Europe - US public.

Also, for us, it is a more important tiltle to have than the Libertadores, the American version for the Champions League.

yeah, until they improve the structure of the tournament and the marketability that will be the case for us too with our champions league.

I don't think Chelsea we're that "lucky" in winning the Champions League. Their group was pretty easy but I thought they deserved it for their performances against Barcelona. Chelsea took their chances well and fought hard to get to the final. It wasn't "champagne football" as they call it but they won and didn't cheat so its as legitimate as any other victory. In regards to the travelling fans, you cant really blame people for not going out to Japan (especially from England). Some of the fans are probably still paying off their trip around Europe for the Champions League.

Also, I too have noticed the lack of interest for the Club World Cup. Maybe it's because the Champions League is considered the most difficult trophy to win in club football. So once a European team has won it, the Club World Cup is just like an added bonus.

It really just boils down to the fact that they haven't properly weighted the competition to reflect the objectively better quality of European and South American teams.

I think if they want to make a truly successful Club World Cup competition, they'd have to, more or less, borrow the format which the FIFA World Cup has, and host a tournament every four or so years where, let's say, the four best teams from the previous four years (i.e. the four champions, or if a team has won twice, a runner-up - the details can obviously be ironed out when the idea is fleshed out more) from Europe, four from South America, and two each from North America, Africa, Asia and Oceania compete in a 16-team tournament, all competing for one trophy in a style almost identical to the FIFA World Cup. By holding it every four years instead of yearly, FIFA can pool the money they'd spend on one year's tournament towards one larger tournament, offering greater prize money to clubs, and thus providing a further incentive to clubs participating (whether European, South American or not) to actually perform well and to treat it as a serious tournament. In time, or maybe even rather quickly in fact, fans and media will jump on board in supporting the cup, since it'll pretty much be able to market itself, again, like the FIFA World Cup.

Also, I should slap myself silly for the fact that I made Sebastian Bassong my FPL captain ahead of Santi Cazorla. Urrrrggggghhh

bingo banjo kazooie

yes I think they will one day. the world cup itself has decended into a farce thanks to step ladder, but his damage will only last as long as his reign of c*ntiness, even if that reign is 100 years he can't undo football, no matter how hard he tries

2022 will be a joke though

I would like to see this tournament happen every summer as well or something (not during the season as a 16-team thing could really screw over teams involved) like in 2000 united had to pull out of the FA cup. well they could make it so the english entrant does not do the league cup cos let's face it who cars about that (out of big teams)

i think it should be

premier league winners

la liga winners

serie A winners

bundesliga winners

french league winners*

portugese league winners*

dutch league winners*

europa league winners*

CL winners

in the event a team wins both their league and CL then 2nd place in CL, if they won their league then... 3rd place in CL (do a 3rd 4th place playoff)

if the CL semi finalists all win the german, spanish, italian and english leagues (fat chance) then 2nd of the winning team's league or something

* - via a playoff with another stared team

for European entrants. (at least)

I would have loved to see Messi at City (obviously) but I've always felt he wouldn't leave Barca after what the club did for him.

Still keen on Falcao and De Rossi mind. that_guy2057_evilgrin.gif
