rhyn: I think it's something more than making an example of him to be honest, look how much the likes of Balo or Rooney do it and don't get punished. I think Barry has said something a bit out of character,

Yea true, I meant more a case of both really, supposedly he was swearing at the referee. Who knows.

the football club world cup needs an improvement in structure. It should be like the world cup in international or the CL - a competition where most of the best teams have a realistic chance to be in it every time, not just one team from Europe. This leads to a small tournament of 6 teams and only one team would get into the premiership - corinthians (kidding)

but all other teams barring the Champions League winner are teams that are equivalent in quality to championship clubs. That is just a joke to be honest.

But we all know that this tournament will get bigger in time, the power of marketing, there was a time when the European cup was not seen as a massive priority to almost any team, and Real madrid won it 5 times in a row in that time. And now it is big time those 5 wins are part of record, same goes for this, when it becomes big time the victories of Manchester United, Barca, Milan and most likely Chelsea will be part of record, on the trophy, even if they won it when it did not count for much. Hell it is already bigger than it was, i remember when United had to pull out of the FA cup to enter the equivalent in 1999 - now that is not needed so less contempt goes to it but the structure needs improvement to make it a more marketable venture, and a more worthwhile trophy with more worthwhile teams.

at least 9 of the top 10 club teams in the world are in europe, and I would say all 10 are in europe. so having a tournament called the world cup without 9 or the top 10 teams int he world seems stupid.

I do, but it is silly that a tournament called the world cup is so lapse in terms of the quality of teams participating.

If you win the CL I consider them world club champions cos frankly f*ck the world club cup, you will get one top team there and the rest cold be replaced by championship clubs and lose nothing in terms of quality. It is almost like a pre-season competition in terms of quality of teams, one big team to get the crowds in, andd the rest are average.

Speaking of European and world champions, I'd just like to remind everyone as to who won the European Cup and Club World Cup in 1991. ph34r.gif

yeah but you know why don't you... *you alll wait for the typical man united quip at liverpool being crap*

because they did not take it seriously, because it is quite hard to.

@stefche... red star Belgrade... that team conjures unhappy memories.

If you do not know why then I politely and respectfully request you to Google it.

The - in 15 mins, excited, but a tad apprehensive.

EDIT: BUT! Aguero, Silva and Tevez starting. wow.gif

EDIT: Boom.

I hear it should have been more comfortable than the scoreline suggests. Something wrong with Dzeko an' all. confused.gif

-------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT: So I'm hearing Fellaini has head butted Shawcross (ref didn't see it though). Not suprised, Fellaini has become a good footballer, but has always been a dirty c*nt. Hope he gets a lengthy ban.

He also elbowed him and punched/palmed him aswell, the headbutt was out of order like but when you play Stoke, a team reknowned for being dirty c*nts, you've got to give it back as good as you get it. Don't get me wrong like, Maro should get a ban for the headbutt but Stoke are the worst for agression and i think the lads wanted to give it back. The ref was f*cking sh*te aswell, seriously struggling to name a ref i can actually tolerate.

@DerDon, i'm not! It's about time their luck ran out.

first decent thing Fellaini's done for a while.

happy for villa I suppose, you look at their squad and wonder what the hell they've become but Lambert was done very well with such a young side. Obviously liverpool need to stop playing Suarez up front and sign a proper striker, looks like he missed more chances than usual today.

Well he did get the equaliser against Arsenal but i agree, i don't blame Maro though, Moyes tactics have been sh*te again these last few weeks, most blues agree Fellaini should drop to CDM and play more football on the deck but Moyes is Moyes and the stubborn c*nt doesn't learn from his mistakes.

scoring against Arsenal is not as credible as it used to be sad.gif

still think he's largely overrated but this season he has started showing a bit of consistency

Glad with the Red's performance today. Glad to see Rooney and RVP still scoring and causing trouble upfront. Lethal partnership them two. One of the best in the PL imo.

Harry Redknapp has topped himself. I just heard him on 5live saying Adel Taaraabt "could be a top, top, top, top player." Any advance on four tops?

Chris Hughton is a premier league manager. Not just literally, but metaphorically. I think he's also at a club who will treat him fairly, unlike Newcastle who sit eight places below Norwich.

I agree with you with Chris Hughton though. Norwich are flying at the moment and have already claimed some valuable points, winning against Arsenal and United. I like the way Norwich play and they have some valuable players.

Obviously it would never happen, but I wonder what Messi would be like in the Premier League. He wouldn't score anywhere near as much.

I know this one will annoy you but you have to watch it, defenders will break him to pieces? Haha, they won't even be able to touch him.

Not a Barcelona fan btw but the whole "Messi won't play as good in the EPL" was proven wrong multiple times, first when he raped Arsenal's defence and scored 4 goals against them in one match, and second when David Silva and Aguero joined Man City and played just fine. The EPL is nothing special, RVP already scored 30+ in one season, Messi could easily score 40+ in one EPL season, Barcelona already proved they're leagues ahead of any English team. (Le' bus Chelsea beat them 1-0 last year I know but my local team can do that (once) if they used the same sh*tty defensive tactics, it won't work out for 38 matches in a row and you know it)

He won't have the rest of his Barcelona team to compliment his play though, that's the point being made and I agree. He's not the same player for Argentina. No doubt he'd still be one of the top players in the league, but he wouldn't be as dominant as he is now with likes of Iniesta and Xavi behind him.

also our lower teams are much better than theirs defensively, some defending from their lower teams is championship standard.a and not good championship

He is this year and the last one though, he scored 12 goals in 9 matches for Argentina this year. 31 goals in 76 matches in total, more goals per game than C.Ronaldo btw, so not that bad as some people make it out to be, he is really, really good with Argentina actually, not super-unhuman-barca's Messi-good, but he is the best player in Argentina's squad by far, watch him. smile.gif

Also, last year, Messi had more assists than Iniesta and Xavi combined, just saying. tounge.gif

Terrible from Fellaini, I am sure he will be banned when the FA review it tomorrow, he has at least come out with a full apology on the website and Moyes was not impressed, he fined Neville a weeks wages for that dive so I assume Fellaini will be out of pocket too.

Stoke play to their strengths, really cant blame their tactics, and the tactics work, physical but effective and the ability to frustrate the sh*t out of other teams, fair play to them.

City looked good yesterday, some players coming back inline, had to agree with Lawro as to why Tevez and Aguero dont start every week, if they form a partnership it would be lethal. Newcastle really bad at the moment, and Pardew signed an 8 year deal lol

Villa were great, Benteke is amazing, where did he come from? Very classy and ripped Liverpool apart...who gave up after going a goal down, Rodgers looking a bit stressed, wonder if he is under pressure now?

Rooney and RVP looking sharp, RVP worth the transfer fee??

yes. very much so,he is giving us that sense of danger lacking since the days of Ronaldo. he is the player who can just score with 1 touch, 1 chance, and not even an obvious chance, that is all he needs and that can rescue a point from a seemingly lost game or get an extra 2 from a deadlocked game. I honestly had doubts about him but those were silenced quickly - especially with his antics at Southampton.

Robin van Persie is Fergie's best signing since Cantona or Roy Keane imo. He's made an immediate impact and is probably the first name on the teamsheet. Can't wait to see how he does in those tight knockout stages of the Champions League, "He's a top, top, top, top, top, player" - Jamie Redknapp

Better luck next year Lionel...

At the final whistle, Seleção keeper Gilmar had to console the boy wonder, who was carried off the field in tears on his team-mates' shoulders. "I felt like I was living in a dream," remembered Pele, and in many ways he was, a player set apart by his extraordinary talent. In the years that followed he only got better. He scored 127 goals in 1959, 110 in 1961, and inspired Santos to consecutive Copa Libertadores triumphs in 1962 and 1963; conquests which preceded back-to-back Intercontinental Cup successes.

the brazillian league HAS never really had any good defenses, plus it was a different time, you can't really compare players of yesteryear to now, especially using a stat such as goals in such different leagues
