Well...

So we cant be rooting for teams that arent local? What if I just like the way a certain team plays? What if theres no hope in hell I could see my local team reach CL or any other prestigious tournament? Should I just skip watching CL altogether (because god forbid I might actually like a team thats playing there)?

I live in Norway and I am arsenal supporter.

You mad?

If I have to work when there is an arsenal game I try to get someone to cover for me, or I find another way to watch the game.

Been to highbury and emirates.

But even if I did not do any of that, if I just supported the team, how would that not make me a supporter?

I've always been loyal to my club, which ever one it was.

I started out by supporting both Milan clubs, I mean come on, they were so stylish at the time and I'm a sucker for the San Siro. Then after realizing that Madrid were a better club than those two I became loyal to them. Only until they were beat 5-0 by Barca that is, then I became a Catalan. Sergio planted that 94th minute league winner so naturally my loyalty suddenly lay with City and should do for the foreseeable future, depending on who wins the league this season.

I'm not saying if you're not from North London, you cant support Arsenal. I'm from Manchester and I love Udinese. The thing that I'm saying is that I bet Norway doesn't have a huge fan base of Fulham supporters because they don't win anything. The other thing that was said was just ridiculous. Of course you can like any team you want. All I said was that this thread is full of glory supporters. I think it is you that is "mad".

Tommy - I don't know if you are aware but I am talking about football and if you'd like to check my posts in this thread you'll find I post alot of crap but I don't really talk about glory supporters very much. You just don't like me bringing it up. I find it funny that you want me banned from the thread because my opinion differs from your own. Its like telling a child that Santa doesn't exist and seeing them hold there hands over their ears and screaming "LA LA LA!" Just pathetic. Especially after some of the sanctimonious crap you get away with.

If I were "from arsenal" I'd would have to be an arsenal football player, or working for arsenal in some way or another.

But I'm not from London.

Norway has a huge fanbase of leeds united. And liverpool. Newcastle as well. but there is a lot of leeds supporters.

I was born in Scotland and live in Ireland, I've supported Man United for as long as I can remember. I love the way they play and watch every game. It's not surprising that you see more supporters of "big teams" in other countries than small teams because that's all you can get on t.v in most countries. Not a lot of MK Dons matches on in Nigeria I'd imagine.

That's an excellent point actually. I only started liking Udinese when they starting playing Serie A matches on channel 5 before the rise of streaming (I've never really had Sky Sports sad.gif ).

King of Monra - I realised my mistake after posting, derp... A bad example. I should of noticed that really turn.gif. No need for the edit now, on second thoughts...

I support Real Zaragoza, I have absolutely no ties to Spain, Zaragoza or Aragon. I support Real Zaragoza because when I lived in Cyprus the only football we got was La Liga and Zaragoza played with alot of style and flair.

I say support whoever you want, it's your own decision. Support whatever team entertains you and keeps you watching football. If that means Barcelona then so be it.. they play in such a beautiful way it's easy to see why people love them. Ignore trolling idiots that call you a glory supporter, what the f*ck do they know and who cares anyway.

I agree with you about watching teams that keep it interesting but as someone living in the UK you'll know that you come across these kinds of supporters that have this false arrogance every time the team they support wins. As if its one of their own accomplishments. I see this in abundance in this thread so I like to point out the fact that quite a few of them are glory supporters. Look how riled they get. Call me troll if you wish, I call it justice.

Justice? How is it justice when you're trying to rationalise the behaviour of f*cking football supporters, who are notoriously bound to be emotional regarding their team's performance, and simply pass their behaviour off as "glory hunting"? It's an incredibly stupid insinuation given that, although the vast majority of the talk in here is about the Premier League, this is an international forum, and not all of us have the privilege of growing up around the corner from Old Trafford, Highbury, Anfield etc. so naturally the teams that us internationals will pick will generally be more successful ones. I don't know why you're creating such a huge issue by using such provocative words like "glory hunters" when it's human nature to be respectful and appreciative of success and positive achievement, especially within the world of sport. Unless you're temporarily bandwagoning for the purpose of achieving success (which, let's be honest, hardly any of us going to the lengths of posting in this thread are), then really there is absolutely nothing wrong with supporting any club, whether they are successful of not.

I support Manchester United because my old man supports them, and he started supporting them because he grew up watching George Best and Denis Law and was genuinely in love with the way they played football back in the late '60s and early '70s. Shock and horror! I'm supporting the club my dad goes for! I guess I'm just a glory hunter with no appreciation for the sport, its players or its culture; I only want to jump on board for since they're good and win trophies. sarcasm.gif

Seriously, though, this thread is meant to be about intelligent, respectful discussion between supporters of all teams; about the games played, the players, tactics, general issues within the sport itself etc. I feel sorry for the utter waste of bandwidth which we've all now had to dedicate towards discussing something as childish as "glory hunting", which, frankly, should be reserved for 12-year-olds to argue about at school.

You can agrue all you like that you "have family in Manchester" blah blah blah but I have family in Canada and you don't see me supporting Toronto FC.

Why the hell would anyone want to support Toronto FC?

Oh wait... turn.gif

Anyways, can we go away from all this glory-hunting nonsense? Manchester derby is on Sunday. Both teams have their issues, especially at the back. United's midfield is still inept, and City's attack has been firing blanks for a while. With all that said, expect a somewhat high-scoring draw.

Agreed, no more arguing please, its really quite petty.

City and UTD havent exactly been on fire in the league but have been grinding out results. I can see a very sh*t game or a drubbing to either team.

Would it be a bad idea to drop Rio on Sunday? He has been kind of sh*t lately, I feel like Evans has been holding it together. Jones played well against Cluj moto_whistle.gif

I'm still sticking to a draw on Sunday. I don't think either team has been playing all that well this season - with United's defence being all over the place and Citeh dropping points here and there. It's hard to imagine United haven't even had a draw this season and I'm still surprised Citeh are unbeaten so far; especially with how bad they did in Europe.

I pay them no attention at all. I also think it's a different situation, everyday I meet idiots who know absolutely nothing about football yet jump on the bandwagon and pretend to know. I just accept that as part of the uk... there's always going to be people that don't look into a subject as deep as I do and just go with whatever is popular. I have yet to see the Barcelona fan in this thread act like a moron which leads me to believe he's not one of those people icon14.gif anyway chill there isn't any point going on about this for pages because none of us will switch opinions.

to bring it back to football

I've heard Spurs are gonna make a move for Eriksen in january, AVB knows how to build a team. I was always impressed by his signings icon14.gif he made some great signings for Chelsea and got sacked before they even had a chance to make an impact which is a shame I just hope Spurs are more patient as he's definitely the guy to take you to new heights. I feel the media is against him and sits there wanting him to fail day in and day out... our media only seems to like Jose Mourinho which probably explains why they're a bunch of c*nts.

Man City look devoid of all life. I can't see them being motivated after the week they've had. I'm kinda ready for them to fall down. Edited by flitcroft101

Cos English teams are sh*te.

I am secretly confident about the derby, gotta feeling...as long as Dzeko ain't starting, he's so slow and sloppy. Good as an impact sub. I'd start Kun and Mario, with Silva in behind, although he might not make it so maybe Nasri instead.

Ha United barely has a midfield left at this point, Cleverly out injured too. Anderson, Valencia, Cleverly, Kagawa, Nani all out. Even Niclk Powell caught the flu turn.gif Gonna be interesting. 4 in back 4 up front and a few strays in mid lol.gif

No Suarez against West Ham nervous.gif who will score for us??!

We keep getting linked to Sturridge, are we really that sh*t, we're trying to get a chelsea reject, FSG need to splash out and get Cavani to us, he'd link up well with Suarez. January is going to be like christmas for us Liverpool fans, just fingers crossed we don't spend stupid on sh*t again.

All this talk about glory hunters, lol all I can say is, atleast it's not me for a change winding the Manc's up. My family supports United ironically, and I support Liverpool, being from North Wales, a lot of people support either Everton or Liverpool!

Sturridge is actually a good player, he's a bit like Shaun Wright-Philips in that Chelsea have ruined him. But I'd hope that at the right club he'd actually turn it around and be the player he was such the prospect of being when he was at City.

He's different to Shaun Right-Biglips because he is actually still good and if anything he's improved under us, but for some reason we just don't play him as much as he deserves. I like him a lot and he deserves much more than he's had so far in terms of chances, hope he gets a move to a club where he'll actually play regularly.

And going back a page or 2 to that Euro 2020 thing, regarding cities from lots of different countries being hosts. I actually think that's not a bad idea. Europe ain't exactly large, and travelling times wouldn't be that long especially with the extensive rail and road networks we've got. I'd imagine it wouldn't be all over the place either, maybe restricted to a certain area, but even if it wasn't then as long as non of the host cities are Yekaterinburg or some other Russian armpit in the middle of nowhere then it should be hunkey dorey.

I'm sorry but there is absolutely no way that the likes of Cavani will go to Liverpool right now. Instead of spending ridicolous money on the big names (35m for Andy Carroll lol.gif ) LFC should focus on their youth-players and look for cheap talent around the world (not only the big European leagues).

I know that this is a long way and it would probably result in Liverpool not being among the top 4 for another 5 years, but it is the only way I suppose.

Usually I would agree but the top 4 seem to be struggling at the moment in the prem. Man Utd and City seem to be the only stable team at the top. Chelsea not great and due to go to Japan then lose loads of players in the ACN early 2013, Arsenal not looking great either,of course they can get back to winning ways but I feel Spurs will open the top 4 up and there could be a very close race come the end of the season, a number of clubs could potentially get in the CL.
