I'm happy with a draw from England. I said that from the start they would probably get a 1-1 draw. That was the hardest game in the group imo and to come across with a draw is pretty good.

I think a draw was a pretty fair result, the only other clear cut chances were Milner and the Diarra bullet header, on another day we could have seen either team picking up a 2-1 win.

 

Still not won an opening game in the last 8-9 tournaments? Sweden will be another close test, a part from that friendly the other month the games do tend to be close again.

Your right, it would be.....but I didn't say that.

 

Of course he didn't play like he did at the gunners but he scored some important goals (The best example I can think of was the Winner in the 2-1 victory over Chelsea, keeping us in the title race) and along with Silva they tore most midfields apart.

 

So to say he did "f*ck all" is ludicrous.

1-1 wasn't a bad result against 12 men, a bit of an edgy match overall, seemed like tactical result, as if they both played for a draw so they can both win their last two games and both progress.

We've won the opening game in a couple of recent World Cups - I remember a 1-0 vs Paraguay and I know we beat Tunisia in '98 (okay, not so recent), which I think was the first game. In the Euros you'd probably have to go back to the late 70's or early 80's. Before I was alive for sure.

Thought Ukraine looked lively, especially going forward, their left mid was sharp but all to quick to shoot and Schevchenko and Voronin played well. I think that will be a tough game for England.

 

We didn't seem to have a midfield today because Parker and Gerrard sat so deep all game, the Ox was good and there were a few nice interchanges in the first-half but our ball retention was f*cking sh*te.

France England was pretty underwhelming, and a draw certainly the fairest result as neither deserved it over the other. Oxlade-Chamberlain is awesome and needs to be starting every game. France looked good, I thought. Very comfortable and fluid on the ball in the attacking, but they just failed to carve out enough chances for themselves. Both still are in good position to get out the group.

 

Ukraine Sweden: best game of the tournament so far. Not only was the football open, end-to-end stuff, but having an overage Shevchekno doing it in front of a home crowd in Kiev is some romantic sh*t...i loved it.

Ukraine can enjoy their night, and good for them, but despite their high tempo, both them and Sweden looked perfectly vulnerable at the back on a number of occasions (should I be praising the offense instead? i don't know). Sweden created a whole host of chances themselves, and could have easily put away half of them on another day. Maybe I'm just being too pessimistic, but neither defense was really that solid, and I think England and France will take full advantage of that.

I thought the draw was a fair result in the end. I thought we played well, and as a team.

I was a little disappointed that Gerrard played so far back, I think him going forward could have got a little of action in the box, which there was none, which is my only worry for the next games. Welbeck didnt do as I expected, he didnt go in the box and cause problems which I thought he would, maybe Carroll would be a better in the next game before Rooney is back.

England seemed to fear France, everyone behind the ball and Gerrard playing alongside Parker, despite France only having Benzema up front, who actually still maintained a decent threat, and linked up with midfield, who were more attack minded I thought, Gerrard needs to push one more and link with the strikers who seemed to get isolated vs France, in the next game against Sweden.

The only real youngster playing was Oxlade-Chamberlain and yeah he did have a good game. But I thought we didn't pass it at all well enough or keep possession in the right areas. Encouraging start but I want us to play with a bit more confidence.

Welbeck's only 21, that's a youngster in my book. He had a pretty damn good game as well, chasing down and nicking the ball from defenders, tracking back and defending corners as well as posing a threat up front. England's best player for me.

I would also class Walcott as a youngster i mean he is only 23 not excatly pushing retirement age.

 

Plus you have Jones, Kelly, Henderson that are also in the squad who are all under 23
