Russia looked awesome on the counter, could have had about 8 goals if Kerzhakov had his shooting boots on. Dzagoev looked a decent player, could be a dark horse for the goldenboot.

Wasn't much surprised by the Russian result. They looked good but were up against a rather mediocre Czech side. They'll survive until the knockouts. then it's da svidanya!

The Polish bench is pretty weak though isn't it? Why else would Poland start with Sebastian Boenisch, who only played 5 games for Bremen in the last 2(!) years?

Yeah, the bench is kinda weak - on the other hand, there are a few interesting players in reserve, like Rafał Wolski for example (there were rumors he's going to play for BvB next season). Most of the bench are "OK" players, which still could make a difference, since players on the field were exhausted. I mean - come on, it's not THAT bad to keep the same players on the field for 90 minutes...

Tonight we'll see if the German players can live up to the titlewinning role. Playing against the Portugese is hard. But with the swinging forwards like Müller an Poldi we have a chance of winning!

 

The Netherlands are kicking it off against Denmark. Everybody expects a Dutch win. But I see the Denmark squad as a strong team. So don't be surprised of they make a draw or even win!

I hope so too. Holland has serious defending issues. The only way I see them win is if they can keep de the ball away of the box.

 

It's hard to choose between Klose And Gomez but considering the last season I hope Löw will go with Klose

I was at a wedding yesterday so I missed both games, definitely watching the Denmark-Netherlands game though. I'll miss the Germany-Portugal game as well, man I just wanna get some quality football viewing in. Not much luck tomorrow either seeing as how England are playing.

England are playing on Monday, Stu. Tomorrow's games are Spain v Italy and Ireland v Croatia.

 

Both yesterday's games were better than I expected, from a neutral's point of view. Petr Cech is looking a shadow of his former self. There's no way Russia would've scored four if he'd been the Cech of a few years ago. Not the best day for goalkeepers all 'round, really. Malafeev was okay and Tyton did well, but Szczesny and Chalkias made some strange decisions.

Just watched some videos of Portugal's spell in Euro 2000 for good luck. For those who don't remember, we were in a similar group of death, with Germany, England and Romania. We won the group in front of Romania: England and Germany were eliminated. We beat the Germans three nil that year. What a great campaign.

I didn't even notice that, but yeah, to not try and replenish the team in order to grab a win at home is..strange. I had to divide my attention for yesterday's matches as I was listening to the games at work, taking a peek at ESPN3 from time to time when something exciting happened..but today I'm all set up at the hizzy, with some weed, coffee, and wasabi peas watch, now my internet connection will go out...

That's pretty cool, Cacti. For some reason after watching a couple of goals my mind went in the direction of a bizarre future where all sports are digitally simulated instead of actually being played.

 

Also, back in the here and now, Man Utd have already snagged Shinji Kagawa and are being linked with Robert Lewandowski, Luka Modric and possibly Kevin Strootman. That could be one hell of a squad for next season, if still slightly short defensively.

I hope Denmark can pull something off against the Dutch but I think it will be 3-1 Holland. I agree with Harry though, I think Holland will struggle to make it out that group.

 

EDIT: 1-0 Denmark! Holland have been playing well but this is definitely a must win game for the Dutch.
