"The Board of Aston Villa are delighted to confirm that Paul Lambert has been appointed Villa manager."

Anyone is better than McLeish.

Was McCleish really that bad?

I dont pay a great amount of attention to Villa, but I thought the players and the chairman had a lot to answer to, as well as the manager, but I guess somebody has to get the sack, Will Lambert really make much difference? Let's see.

Yes. So boring and defensive.

Not to mention he was the scums manager previous to his appointment at Villa.

Edit; And you're right too. Lerner has a lot to answer for. Needs to invest in the club heavily if we want to compete with Everton, Newcastle, Tottenham etc. (which a club of our size should be).

Dave Whelan the Wigan chairman, is according to a mate who did some work on his house a right arrogant asshole, really disrespectful guy when the cameras aren't on him.  moto_whistle.gif

Of course he is. This is the man who named his stadium after himself (I know it was apparently a surprise from the board but I don't believe that for a second) he's also the man who funded Sheffield United's ridiculous legal action against West Ham in 2007.

I f*cking hate Dave Whelan, and I want bad things to happen to him. Not like awful things, but I want him stub his toe, his phone to run out of battery, drink some off milk. Stuff like that.

how was it ridiculous ? west ham practically cheated there way to survival

The transfers of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano were illegal, yes, but in April 2007 we were fined by the FA for this, as this articles shows. The football governing body investigated and punished West Ham accordingly. As Seddo said, every team has 38 games to survive in the premiership, and funnily enough they only played West Ham in 2 of them, we won one they won one and none of these games came in the crucial last 5 games of the season.

This article is a break down of the whole saga. If you read it it you will see Sheffield lost its appeal on the original West Ham fine at both the High Court and the Premier League commission. At this point Dave Whelan stepped in, once Wigan were safe, and offered to finance any further legal action against West Ham. Sheffield United, after recieving a knock-back from the f*cking High Court no less take the matter through the FA and finally get a ruling in their favour.

As far as I'm concerned being fined £5.5 Million was enough and furthermore pursuing apparent damages through any means possible is ridiculous. To blame another club for being relegated is a way to shift the blame and not take responsibility for a dismal season. We wound up having to pay that team in excess of £30 million due to a ruling from the FA and were then prevented from taking the matter to the Court of Arbitration in Sport. Prevented. How is it fair that Sheffield United were able to take the case to 3 different arbitration panels with the backing of Whelan's money and yet once a decision had been reached in Sheffield's favour West Ham were leagally prevented from appealing it? And whats more even with all the money we've had to throw at them over the last few years they still managed to get relegated to League 1 and miss out on promotion this year. They're clearly not a club that had the capability or the right to remain in the premiership.

The transfers of Tevez and Mascherano were illegal, yes, but they were dealt with. There are more than 2 players in a team and don't be so f*cking stupid to say we cheated to stay up. Tevez couldn't have kept us up on his own, the whole team fought to survive that year and they deserved it. Are you going to claim that Jonathon Spector blocking Rooney's shot with his balls in the final minutes of that game was unfair on Sheffield United? Hopefully actually reading up on the situations will leave you better informed Vercetti.

Been meaning to ask this this for the past couple of days, what's the story with young Neymar?

I read last year, think it was on BBC, that he was staying until the world cup in 2014 then he would move to a big European club. He'd be 22 by that time which is still young, so from what I've read elsewhere as well he's not in any rush to go off to the big leagues and is taking his time.

And what's with all this hate for Mr. Whelan? I don't really care for rumours about what he might be like or what he might have said. I'm just going by what I've seen of him personally and he seems like a decent bloke. He's one of the best chairmen in the premier league in terms of backing his manager and he seems to do things the right way. I know he was vocal against West Ham, but I don't recall him funding Sheff utd's legal efforts that sounds a bit fishy to me. Besides, he had every right to be pissed off at West Ham. There's no way they would have stayed up without Tevez, and they acquired him illegally, it could have potentially had a massively detrimental effect on his club.

You're sick.

Been meaning to ask this this for the past couple of days, what's the story with young Neymar? I remember not so long ago he was supposed to be coming to Europe and everyone wanted him. Any word on that?

I think i heard something like he's got a gentlemens agreement to sign for Barcelona after his current contract with Santos comes to an end. I'd love him to join the prem though, he really is a class player.

As Liverpool have showed mate getting investment doesn't always fix all your problems, infact i'm pretty sure Villa are in bad debt with the banks anyways because it's being badly run. It's also amusing how you list Everton in there considering we've spent next to nothing. Let's hope Lambert can prove his quality though cause i like Villa, big club.

Too true.

@chris: Barca you say? Darn, would love to see how the guy would cope in the EPL. However, always assumed he'd join Madrid for some reason. Think he'd fit in at Barca?

Man, England are dire again, no attacking thought and the ball has been playing around our own defence. Belgium so comfortable and composed on the ball and some great inter changes from Hazard, Mirallas and Mertens. AOC has had a couple of decent chances and the odd decent run.

Which one is going to the Euro's again?

That seems to be the England way recently. I get easily bored watching England play football. I felt the same way when they played Norway in Oslo last week.

Hey we've seen underdogs like Greece and the likes of Denmark win the tournament by not shipping many goals and staying defensively strong so it could happen with England under Roy's tactics. Then we've had Chelsea win this years CL by choking the attacking teams with defensive football with the odd counter attack.

That's four 1-0 wins in 5 games for England against the likes of Spain, Sweden, Norway and now Belgium. Not bad.

when you put it like that yes, but you can imagine how sour the chairman and board at sheffield united felt about it, Tevez winner at OT was the defining moment of the season IMO.

Have you forgotten Spain's 2010 World Cup? One 1-0 opening loss against Switzerland, and the rest of the games ended 1-0 for them.

Well they did score two goals in their two winning group games but yeah their KO games were 1-0's. Spain weren't defensive though, very possession based as you'd expect but funnily enough lacked an attacking bite when in on goal. Scored a number of late-ish goals and also had a fair bit of luck on the way. It's what it's all about, stop your opponents from scoring and you've always got a chance in any game.

You're absolutely right, but I can't help by being overtaken by my best memory of Spain in the World Cup: the off side goal they scored against Portugal that let them advance to the semis.

Covered a lot of the pitch but i suppose that's easy with a head like a burst mattress.

Great midfielder with lots of strength, surprised someone hasn't come in for him and splashed 20 million or so on him yet. Still only 24, seems like he's been around for ages.

Chelsea have been sniffing but he signed a new 5 year contract last season, so 20m wouldnt cut it. He is one of the best AMF's in the prem.

Found it interesting to think about the way England have been playing and have come away with a good run of small victories, through solid defensive play. It could work in our favour to carry on playing this type of football, even if it does bore the sh*t out of viewers, trouble is friendlies don't have that same pressure, and if we do go a goal down do we have what it takes to get a goal back, I'm not so sure, I hope England do well, but I can't see it happening. I think the low expectations before hand might benefit us though in some strange psychological way, we're going there and not fully expecting to win it. Everyone is favouring the Germans and of course the Spanish.

Gary Cahill has been ruled out of the Euros with a double fracture of the jaw now and has been replaced by Martin Kelly apparently. sarcasm.gif

I'm sorry, but what the F*ck. Martin Kelly is chosen over Rio Ferdidnand or Micah Richards? Who the f*ck is this guy. I thought England were gonna do sh*t, but there chances seem even slimmer now.

They may as well take the England badge off the red away kit and replace with a Liverpool badge then.

I mean where did Liverpool finish, and then where did City and United finish... and look at the goals conceded column confused.gif

I was thinking the same thing. Clearly biased. I can understand Rio being a bit "mature" but he is still a class defender and Richards is fantastic at RB or CB, so I can't understand what Hodgson is doing.

Phil Jones has basically been picked a head of Rio, Kelly is a right back, so effectively Kelly has been picked for back up to replace Jones who would have been back up right back. Apparently Richards didn't want to be on a back up list so that's why he hasn't been picked. I know i've said this about 5 times now haha but why wasn't Richards picked in the original 23 mans quad, something must be up.

Remind me what has Jones done to deserve an England call apart from sign for United? Had a good first few months for United then been pretty poor after that.
