Transfer budget of 6m is the most idiotic thing I've heard all day. Why would FSG, who are proven ruthless owners, expect a top 4 finish (or near thereabouts) with a 6m budget? People keep saying FSG have spent a lot of money, yet if you tally up players sold, profits made by the club, extra fees etc etc, they haven't even dug that deep in their pockets yet. Infact I wouldn't be surprised if this was the biggest summer for us yet (or thats just me hoping nervous.gif )

Anyway, FSG have obviously chosen someone who is young, hungry, and has a football philosophy that fits the club. I don't mind them taking punts on managers who lack a glorious CV so long as they make sense, and Rodgers seems a good choice. Given time, resources, and patience he will perform well. Perhaps I'm being optimistic but I see it in a similar vein as Klopp or Benitez, who Dortmund and Valencia took on as "punts", respectively.

He's no miracle worker and I'll eat my hat if we finish 4th this year, but as long as progress is obviously being made, I'm happy.

Time will tell, however no company in their right mind will keep on spending 100m every season and finishing 8th. If 120m cannot get you into the CL then how much will it cost? How many years do you expect them to be able to keep putting that in when their American team is doing as bad as Liverpool! Where does this endless stream of money come from? What if they cant afford it? Liverpools players wages alone is in the region of 160m a season.

Just seeing Chelsea have agreed a 38m price for Hulk!

Breaking News: Eden Hazard fails Chelsea medical, couldn't fit his head through the door.

On a serious note, I thought it was £6 million + any money from selling players? That would make me think someone on the Pool team might be going for big money (And the owners know it), possibly the reason for only giving £6 million.

Incredible.

Lampards out of the Euros and replaced with Jordan Henderson, so does this bump Adam Johnston up the reserve list behind Johnno from accounts. confused.gif

38 million for Hulk... Pounds or euro? If euro, that's slightly less than Falcao...

Well, not if we take into consideration that Atletico still owes us something like 15 million, of course, but still. tounge.gif

I thought Hulk had a buyout clause of 80 million? If we get him AND Hazard then that'll certainly be interesting, also the deals shouldn't take too long seeing as neither player is going to the euros. Then again there's plenty of other stuff that can get in the way. Also John Terry has had his European ban extended to another 2 games, can't say I didn't see it coming considering how blatant the foul was.

it's now basically the COC.

The COCup...I think it'll catch on smile.gif

COCup champions, there's an Arsenal joke in there somewhere.

B-Rod certainly got the talk in his presser this morning, hopefully he can transfer that on to the pitch.

Will be interested to see how Rodgers does at Liverpool. He's clearly a very good manager, however I worry that like Hodgson, he won't get the ideal amount of time to do the job, and that the fans will quickly jump on his back if things start to go wrong. They will want top 4 football, but there's no way that this current squad will be anywhere near that without major investment, which looks unlikely after the amount of money that was wasted last season. Good luck to Rodgers, but I do worry for him.

I think the fans will take to him, he does like to play a passing style game which always pleases Liverpool fans. He must get the confidence of the players too, there are A LOT of ego's in that dressing room. Sometimes its bets to get back to basics and start over, thats what they seem to be doing.

Bang.

I respect Rogers as a manager. He did a great job at Swansea. Let's see what he does at Liverpool.

There are a lot of fans that will give him time and there are fans that have realistic views. Of course you also get a lot of numpties who were demanding Mourinho, Klopp, Guardiola ect and then expect to sign the top range players.

We aren't to bad when we're playing the decent teams, we've been like that for ages. The problem lies when the so called smaller teams sit back and allow us possession, we look lost and struggle to find openings to goal and that lies the problem.

If you close your eyes when he's talking we could be getting managed by Liam Neeson biggrin.gif

For the love of god please never call him that again. barf8bd.gif

Although I agree with the Liam Neeson thing haha, he actually kinda looks like him a little bit as well. If a Liverpool player ever finds himself in the position that Wilson Palacios and John Obi Mikel were in a few seasons ago (relatives kidnapped), just send Rogers in to get the job done.

What about Buck or King Brenny?

@Vercetti, It wouldn't be a bad start to his Liverpool career if B-Rod was waving his COC around next February.

Wrong!

He was the first choice but at the last minute he turned it down, no matter what has been said after the event.

If you believe the people ITK on twitter, the reports were that both Villa and Wigan had more ambitious plans after speaking to the owners.

Incorrect. Rodgers was first choice but he distanced himself from it at first, and after FSG couldn't reach an agreement with Martinez, they went back to Rodgers and said it was him or nobody.

Regardless it's fine by me, would rather have Rodgers than Martinez.

Martinez was the very first manager LFC spoke to. Not Rogers, this was days before Rogers was even approached. Martinez was also offered the job with Liverpool even when Rogers was in the frame. He said no at the last minute, I dont know the reason why, but Dave Whelan said the Villa job after Martinez had spoken to the Villa owners was far more attractive that the Liverpool job.

Its impossible to deny when you have someone like Dave Whelan giving SKY a blow by blow account, he wont lie about it, he wont risk being made a liar on Sky. I doubt even that Rogers was even 4th choice after LFC had approached AVB, Lambert...another I cant remember who all said no. So Rogers may have been asked earlier if he would take an interview and he said no, but that was the start of the negotiations.

I personally think you got the best manager but 3 or 4 turned the post down before they got him.

Dave Whelan the Wigan chairman, is according to a mate who did some work on his house a right arrogant asshole, really disrespectful guy when the cameras aren't on him. moto_whistle.gif

Anyways on topic, I'm pleased with the appointment, even if we do really badly this first season, I'm hoping we'll invest the time and support behind Brendan, the pressure will be on him, hope he copes with it, only time will tell. If Lucas returns to form after injury, and Carroll and Suarez manage to start the season well and if the new manager can get the best out of the likes of Downing, Henderson and Adam, we've got the potential to do much better next season.

Of course he is. This is the man who named his stadium after himself (I know it was apparently a surprise from the board but I don't believe that for a second) he's also the man who funded Sheffield United's ridiculous legal action against West Ham in 2007.

I f*cking hate Dave Whelan, and I want bad things to happen to him. Not like awful things, but I want him stub his toe, his phone to run out of battery, drink some off milk. Stuff like that.

Been meaning to ask this this for the past couple of days, what's the story with young Neymar? I remember not so long ago he was supposed to be coming to Europe and everyone wanted him. Any word on that?

^^Meh, Sheffield United had 38 games to stay up, can't be blaming others because of some unknown info.

Neil Warnock moaned at Liverpool because they rested players and got beat by Fulham towards the end of the season. He went around blaming everyone and everything apart from his sh*tty team and management.

Dunno, Barca and Madrid were supposed to be fighting over him but any transfers stories involving him seem to be dead.

Dave Whealan has confirmed Lambert is off to Villa.
