Did anyone watch Panorama the other night about Racism in Poland and the Ukraine? That was some heavy sh*t and I am astounded it goes on on that level.

How can FIFA possibly let the Euro's go on there? I can see players walking off and games cancelled, I really can.

 

Anyone from Poland/Ukraine have any thoughts?

Like a month ago there was some Indian exchange students at the ground, then like a tactical operation they were swarmed upon and got the sh*t kicked out of them. I dont get it because if that happened in the UK the clubs would be banned.

I'm gonna watch it tonight provided it's on iplayer. Saw the sky sports report and that was shocking enough. I've heard the panorama episode is much worse/graphic though. Balotelli's already said he'll walk off the pitch if he's racially abused which he has every right too. He also said he'll kill anyone who throws a banana at him....

I've read a newspaper article some days ago and it said that German and English hooligans will solidarise to fight the Eastern European hooligans in Poland and Ukraine.

 

There also was an interview on tv with a Polish hooligan from Gdansk who said something like "we hate the Germans because of the history. We will hunt them down in the city, on the beach, everywhere."

Did anyone watch Panorama the other night about Racism in Poland and the Ukraine?

I watched it, a bit disturbing, but it's also not really that bad. Yes, every country has it's idiots, and their video sort of gathered all the scum into one, but it shouldn't be generalized to Poland and Ukraine in general, especially not Ukraine. I'm sure everything will go through fine. There were some security concerns about the 2010 FIFA WC as well if i recall, but the hosts made sure everything works out perfectly.

 

And also, polish police has done some arresting yesterday, of some fans they know are troublesome to insure they won't cause anything during the EURO, gave them 30 days in prison. Also, a few more were arrested i believe for making Anti-EURO graffiti in towns. They are also going to be doing more of the same in the coming days, to ensure safety. So yeah, everything will be fine in the end, i'm sure.

I missed the Panorama thing i'll have to dig it up on iplayer, if Poland and Ukraine are supposed to be bad enough then Russia must be slightly even worse than them pair, silly decisions to host them there.

 

Also if Qatar have strong street drinking laws and want the woman all covered up then i imagine there is going to be a lot of sh*t going down when the women pretty much have their bewbs out and the visiting nations fans are getting pissed on the streets.

But no seriously, he's left a cracking team in Swansea. Has a lot of work to do to get Liverpool playing his football. But how could he say no? Swansea train at a health club, a 20,000 stadium and are relative Premier League rookies. Liverpool have the history, brand and facilities to thrive if they bring in a manager who can have his players play awesome football. He will have to win over the fans but I reckon he's going to do a good job. But then I thought Roy would too

 

Wonder if Ian Holloway will end up at Swansea? Or Chris Hughton? The money Swansea will get in compensation will pretty much give them their pick of Championship managers.

The guy is certainly talented there's no disputing that. The way Swansea played and with the players they had is a great credit to the man. He made some very good signings and I think he's still improving as a relatively young manager. It'll be interesting to see what kind of funds he's given although I doubt it will be very much, I'd say about 30 mil maybe. It took me until about april for me to realise he's not actually Welsh, I don't know why I thought he was. He's Northern Irish for anybody who wasn't aware.

 

So I guess this also means Martinez is staying put at Wigan where I imagine they'll somehow manage to avoid relegation yet again. I seriously don't know how they do it.

van Gaal will have the knowledge and the contacts that Rodgers doesn't. Between the pair they can probably target and purchase players on a cheap that could do the job. Rodgers there mainly to put his philosophy into action.

 

I don't expect immediate results which may end up being his downfall. The fans will wants immediate results to justify sacking their "King". They might not get them. In the long run Rodgers may well excel but whether he gets the chance to do that or not is another thing.

I think he'll do well. He insist on playing attacking, high pressure high line possession football akin to Barcelona, it will suit well I'd imagine.

 

Louis van Gaal is apparently going to be DoF (or "Sporting Director"), hope they can agree on working together. Can't dent what van Gaal as achieved but he doesn't have the best record with good relationships.

It was Martinez or started Swansea's style of play that Rodgers inherited, just hope he can actually carry on with it here. Massive gamble hiring him after the past two gambles haven't paid off but at least he's an attacking minded manager. He pretty much needs results straight away or he'll get fans on his back pretty early on, does need time though.

 

I know Rodgers has been working with the Spanish national team recently and he was invited to go out with them to Poland/Ukraine for a couple of weeks, not sure if that will still be scheduled now.

 

I wonder if we can hijack the Gylfi Sigurðsson deal, don't think it's gone through yet.

Personally I'd love if Baltotelli walked off the pitch if insults were thrown, might just start a trend and get UEFA and FIFA off their Ivory Towered Rose Tinted Arses and pay attention to the racial issue surrounding this tournament.

 

It's an embarrassment how much Teflon is on their shoulders as well as the organisers, they're are even having areas that people of different backgrounds can congregate around the stadiums... I'd take Siggurdson in a heartbeat but surely he's returning to hoffenheim? I can't believe he won't be a success in the bundesliga after his exploits with swansea.

If the fans/players take to Rogers I think he will do okay. A lot of great managers have come from nowhere, he has no ego, just a passion to get on with it, and I think with the players he has he will get a top 6 finish.

Heard a rumour that Martinez said no (and he was first choice) because he wanted full control and that LFC were prepared to give him a 6million kitty plus players he sold. I cant see that being enough to get into the CL. With other clubs spending I cant see any team breaking into the CL for a long time, and that for me is Kennys fault.

Is Rodgers dodging a bullet here? It's normally the second season that's the difficult one for newly promoted sides. To me he's not really proved himself, so Liverpool are taking a big risk.

Even if you got 60m to get into the CL places its a big ask. So it makes little difference to the kitty. You have what, 120m in 5 players, now if they are worth the money then why do you need more? The owners must have faith in those players and hope the manager will turn it around unlike Kenny did.

So unless you get rid of Carroll, Downing and Henderson for what you paid, which is impossible, lucky to get a third, you may as well keep them and see if Rogers can make them play. If he can then 6m is plenty. Why throw another 60/80m at it when there is still little chance of getting in the CL? Whats the point?

The problem for the owners is balancing fan's expectations with the transfer fund. As Kenny showed, pissing money up the wall doesn't necessarily lead to success but if Liverpool don't make some decent signings this summer and show a real intent in the transfer market then Rodgers will have the fans on his back before the first game even kicks off.

You always need to add to the squad or make a few changes regardless of what happened the season before. There's a massive difference between giving the manager 6 million and 60 million, of course it does have to be spent wisely .

 

Nobody knows how much will be in our kitty, i very much doubt it will be 6M though, 20-25M sounds more suitable for what needs doing, although that's just a figure plucked from thin air.

 

City and Chelsea will blow a hole in their wallets, United will spend a reasonable amount, Arsenal are Arsenal and Spurs have just been hit with a massive blow and losing all that CL money so their spending will be quite low also. If you think you can break into the CL next season whilst giving 6M then the owners are in the wrong game. I know they favour youth so it's about time we give some of the young attacking lads a bit of a whirl.
