They are interviewing a number of possible managers so they say. If Martinez is the first one then I dont see it getting any better as the list goes on. Maybe Darren Ferguson, Curbishly??

I would have thought they would have gone for a big name IMO, atleast approached a few anyway.

Maybe a couple more legends?

Why should Liverpool get a big name manager? Because of their history? What is it with Liverpool fans and a sense of entitlement to everything? You are a mid-table club so in my opinion, you are lucky to get someone as talented as Martinez. The players he's bought for Wigan with limited funds show his class. You complained that Roy and Kenny played boring football, Martinez plays the opposite and you still complain. Fickle Liverpool fans.

"It's dead man's shoes. Whoever goes into the Liverpool job now, it's pretty unforgiving."

Caller on radio just now. Speaks truth. Martinez will be slaughtered if he doesn't bring immediate results. Absolutely slaughtered.

Liverpool can't tempt any top managers out of their current job, maybe the only high profiles ones available are Capello and Benitez (can't think of any more high profile ones), one is to old and the other won't be coming back. 3 managers have been sacked for bad results, now as soon as something isn't going right then there is going to be fans on their back and then the owners would be put in a sticky situation.

Fan being interviewed on SSN yesterday, a long the lines of...

Fan: The problem with Kenny is you shouldn't go back.

Interviewer: Who would be your replacement?

Fan: Rafa

@T.Rez, it could very well go the same way, the job Fergie has done has just been outstanding, i can't see how someone can come in and be able to repeat what he has done.

The Liverpool job has to be one of the biggest risks in football behind the England job and not far off the Real Madrid job. I hope the manager's job at United doesn't turn into a poisoned chalice once Fergie's gone!

Haha, yeah I remember that guy.

Collymore on talkSPORT saying they need to go for Klopp and Guardiola. "Think big, act bigger."

1. Guardiola is going on a sabbatical. He is NOT going to manage this year.

2. Klopp has Champions League football and with a side that has won the German league 2 years running. He is not going to leave that for the Liverpool job.

Capello would be the best option right now to do a job for a couple years. Let these young contenders like Rodgers, Martinez and Lambert prove themselves to be the real deal in the meantime.

Oh man this is funny. Have to agree with T.Rez, I fear the day Sir Alex steps down.

I think they have gone for Martinez because they dont want to spend another sh*t load of money, he knows how to work with what he has got, and lets be fair...he would have a few decent players to work with, its not like they are crap players, they have just been managed by the worst ever manager in prem league history.

Martinez could actually be the perfect choice for LFC, its if he can get the players on side which is the big problem. If he wins the first few games and plays good football, the fans will come onside pretty fast.

I wonder where Michael Owen will end up. He's left Manchester United but I don't have a clue what sort of club he'd end up at. moto_whistle.gif

Everton. He's a fan, they could use a decent backup to Jelavic and he's hardly short of money. Everton wouldn't offer him silly money but it would be the ideal place for him to end his career.

Plus it'd rub the salt in the Anfield wounds just a bit more tounge.gif

I'd like to see him stay in the PL if I'm honest. I can see him going to a club like Everton.

To be honest he'll probably end up going to America.

I could see him at everton, he's just the type of player everton go for as well. By that I mean he's free. And regarding Martinez, is he really ready for the job at anfield? I mean yh he's done great at wigan but it is a massive step up. He had little expectations of him; wigan were one of the favourites for relegation, and he had great support from DW. At liverpool he'd be under much greater pressure from both the owners and the fans. I suppose with that Spanish accent if he put on a few pounds and grew a dodgy beard he could fool a few.

Most likely 1. Wiener Neustädter SC, but Incomáti de Xinavane is also in this. monocle.gif

Martinez should be confirmed as soon as the compensation with Wigan is sorted out...

apparently Liverpool have contacted other managers but they were not interested in the job considering the jobs they were in right now, Lambert said no too.

Also news to come out of the meeting in Boston was that if Kenny had won the Carling Cup and the FA cup he would have still got sacked, but if he had finished 4th in the prem he would have been kept on, he was given a target, he didnt hit it.

On the Michael Owen thing, I doubt he will come to Everton because we wouldnt give him a full contract, only a pay as you play and I doubt he would go for that.

It'll be interesting to see who United do go for. Obviously a lot can happen in two or three years, but if all goes well for them, Guardiola, Blanc and Solskjær are names I wouldn't mind being linked to the job. United have never had a foreign manager, though, so if the club deem that important then Moyes could be the man.

A pay as you play contract is the best he'll be able to get anywhere I should think. That's the deal he's been on at United and I can't see anybody taking too much of a risk with him.

Owen was on a basic of 50k a week at Utd, then add ons for playing etc.

Liverpool are linked with 911 managers, including Martinez, AVB, Pardew, Deschamps, and Guardiola. Yeah, that ain't going to happen. tounge.gif

What the hell, I did not say that! MISQUOTE! MISQUOTE!

I'd love to see Ole back in the Prem. If he does well at Villa I'd say the odds of him being the next United boss would tumble. With Giggs, Scholes and maybe eventually Neville in his staff it'd be like our own Guardiola.

My mistake. It'd slipped past me that his basic was that much.

I could well imagine Owen going to the US or an emerging league like China, seems to be tempting a few players away. I can't see any big clubs going in for him like Man Utd did, and any smaller clubs outside the top 4 would be fools to agree to any big contract given his work ethic.

'Prefer playing less often in a top team than every game in a poor team. Been there and didn’t enjoy it."

I wonder if he'll bring out another brochure this time? That said, Owen could well hang up his boots to focus on his promising career as a holiday rep.

And that's why I hate Michael Owen. We paid him something like £120,000 a week and he had the cheek to say that. Will be glad the day he retires and never have to see him on the pitch again. No class.

Yup, offered him a bigger deal at the end of his contract too bewilderingly enough. I think he ended up costing something along the lines of £1.5m per goal scored at us. His appearance-goals ratio isn't too bad, and he was plagued with injuries, but I agree, no class.

Same source as the Kenny getting sacked I got is now reporting that Saurez will hand in a transfer request very soon.

Grant Holt handed in a transfer request but it was turned down by Norwich. Interesting to see how this one plays out.

Rumour picking up pace that Hoilett signing for the toon, doubt it but would love it to be true.

Sunderland releasing nine players, and Solskjaer in talks with Villa. Now this should be good.
