Every time I see a new kit- basically the same as the last but with a new logo or go-faster stripe- I think of that episode of The Simpsons where Lisa tries bringing out her own doll. To compete, the people in charge of the Malibu Stacy doll bring out a new model... with NEW hat. A cheap, tacky hat as a bonus but people go mad for it because "it's new". The perfect metaphor for football shirts that episode is. I won't be buying a new one til Nike actually give a sh*t about producing something classy and timeless. On to tonight: I hope to Jebus that fielding a weakened team doesn't backfire. Early goal should settle any nerves but if they get an early one, we could be in for an interesting night... Truly hope Schalke pull something out of their bum and smash them 5-0 tonight but that's about as likely as pigs flying. A few weeks ago I was so excited about 4 Clásicos in the space of such short time. But I'm glad this fiasco has ended; and it has only reminded me of why I don't watch much Spanish football in the first place. It was merely an unhealthy mix of football, theatre, and pathetic excuses and name calling. Agreed. Just really made La Liga twice as unappealing as it already was. Nah there'll be plenty of muppets willing to pay £50 for a piece of sh*t but I'm sick of it. I'm not a cheap bastard- I bought a €60 Barca shirt the last time I visited the city just for the hell of it- I just think teams are taking the piss with their new shirts every year. It's not just the cash, it's the lack of originality or effort that goes into making unique, classy shirts. My personal favourite right now is the Brazil one: I can see the creative meeting now... "We need a new idea for the Brazil shirt. Any ideas?" "How about, uh, a green bar across the front? Just because?" "Genius! We'll be rolling in it!" It's f*cking shocking. Haven't bought a new football shirt since the United black arrow one from last season and even that was reduced. And I'm even regretting that. After seeing the sh*t they produced this year (the Boltonesque away shirt particularly awful), I decided to boycott buying a new one til they produce something classy and a shirt that's to be used for more than one season. I'm sure Nike will miss my custom... Big game for Evans and Smalling tonight. Gibbo too. I hope these three in particular have a good game to shut some doubters up for a while. They're not 100% official but all the ones I've bought so far look exactly like it. At a much, much fairer price as well. The huge pricetags official retailers put on them is pretty disrespectful. And can anybody guess the main culprits who pretty much started it in England/Britain? I've just bought Liverpool's new away top for about 45 quid and there's not many occasions where i even wear them outside, mostly for just lazing around the house. 45 quid is a joke as well, could have got it much cheaper but me being lazy just ordered it from the Liverpool store so it drops at my door. Then we just gotta supply killer balls (either from Scholes or Carrick) to our dangermen- Rooney, Giggs, Valencia/Nani- to create something or hope Chicharito can pop up and nick a goal, use his great pace against the oldman Puyol. It's not impossible, despite losing Ronaldo I think this United team is better built to beat Barcelona. We just need to take every chance we are presented and hope Rio and Vidic boss that defence. I can almost understand it with the big, top four or five teams with their big kit developers. But Newcastle, and Puma!? As a fan, even I'm willing to admit it's pretty bad too... click here. I mean, I suppose it is a bit more creative than the bog-standard, billy-basic home top of this season but not in a particularly good way. Why only two stripes? I'd have liked it more if the stripes had continued along and maybe the sleeves all white as they are. Also, the "limited edition" one, if you scroll down, is even worse. We've had a fair share of poor tops the past couple seasons. This season they're just bland - I don't mind the home top too much, but the away top and third kit are just plain ol' boring (as if we need a 3rd kit? What for? Europe? Don't make me larrrf!). Still, I think anything beats this rather unfetching custard cream outfit of last season: Don't think I'll be buying a home top this year, more into getting older home ones from when I was a bit younger - looking for some on the cheap from eBay of late-'90s/early-'00s. Got many of 'em at the time but I've outgrown them a bit. Also, was I the only one here to hear Clive Tyldesley say "Everyday I'm shufflin'" in his commnetary tonight, ala whatever horrendous abomination of music I hear in some clubs? Haha I remember him saying that. At the time, this came to mind... I actually don't mind that Newcastle shirt. It's simple and has a timeless quality about it. They don't overdo it with extra stripes etc. I have a soft-spot for Puma kits to be honest, I keep meaning to buy the white Italy away shirt, it's pretty nice and you can get it for less than £20 now. Forgot Busquets - that's what I mean when I say your midfield isn't strong enough plus I fear that Carrick and the now tiring Scholes aren't quick enough on the ball, especially since Barca press annoyingly well. Fergie usually puts O'Shea in the team for height, but he gave such a mature performance last night he might be picked. Fabio is favourite to start tho, as Rafa isn't 100%. How I'd play it: 4-5-1.
