LanceVanceDance07
Painful match to watch, to lose to City? At the FA Cup semi? City fans celebrating like they won the f*cking thing, wait until Bolton or Stoke whoop your ass at the final. Yeah I'm bitter right now, so what? Carrick with the poor pass that cost us the goal, City fans celebrate with the "back to the goal" thing they stole from Lech Poznan, pathetic... United were poor after the first 30 mins, I wish Berba could of put in those two chances in the first half, they let City back into the match. Just didn't have it them to hit back after the goal. Made even worse when Scholes was sent off (deservedly I admit). A match I want to forget...

Waddy
That Balotelli wink good stuff. Was that what Rio was going crazy about? Now I know a City win over Utd is like mega and stuff but did you see City at the end? It was like they had just won the prem, its only the FA cup chaps and for the money they have spent it makes it even worse!
Josh
That Balotelli wink good stuff. Top 10 winks of all time? I cried with laughter. Also, anyone who fancies paying £15million for Connor Wickham is a fool. He flatters to deceive and the only real memory that I'll take away is that he missed an open goal and then nearly broke somebody's leg.

They did celebrate big but it's understandable because they've just knocked out the strongest side in english football and their biggest rivals. It could have been much worse though, it could have been like this... Anyway El Clasico shortly, Puyol back in the lineup. Very good news.

It was like they had just won the prem, its only the FA cup chaps and for the money they have spent it makes it even worse! The first trophy is always the hardest to win. Man Utd had the same problem of spending big and winning nothing whatsoever at the turn of the 90's, but an FA Cup win saved Fergie's job and look where they are now. Who's to say that Mancini can't build a similar dynasty, and with the limitless funds at his disposal it should be more than possible.

SIKKS66
Yipee, I got a Tweet read out on the BBC live commentary of the Real v Barca game. Could this be the start of an exciting new career as a football pundit? Probably not... As for earlier, I'm f*cking gutted of course. BUT, the only thing that matters is the league, the team needs to remember that and stay focused. I'm also thinking the final isn't going to be a the formality everyone has you believe. Anyone remember the last big cup final where the hotly tipped favourites arrived picking out the ribbons for the presentation? Hmm. Come on Stoke/Bolton! Those limitless funds will become limited with those Financial Fair Play rules or however it goes, anyway. Which is going in there the first place because of teams like City, mind you. Josh
I think that that idea is fundamentally wrong by the way. Inequality is good for football, and football isn't a business anyway so shouldn't be expected to be managed like one.

Inequality is good for football, and football isn't a business anyway so shouldn't be expected to be managed like one. So you're okay with Man City splashing insane amounts of players that are only known because they're good on FM? And continuing to completely inflate the transfer market? 30m for a player is quickly becoming the new 20m Inequality will create too much of an imbalance when it starts getting out of hand, unless a team gets a Man City type owner. Josh
and football isn't a business anyway so shouldn't be expected to be managed like one. Oh but it truly is. I don't think so, perhaps football has to be run like a business but I can't see it meeting any of the definitions of "business." There isn't any real commercial activity at the heart of football, and there are no real negative externalities which I can see. Also football clubs have a much greater social significance compared to any old business in a town. And that's why I think like I think. There is already too much of an imbalance, take a look at the basement lagues in English football and watch teams nearly go to the wall and you'll see. This inequality is in part caused by stadium sizes of the bigger clubs like Arsenal and Man Utd meaning that they can fill out huge grounds and take in ungodly amounts of cash, and in terms of revenue they are leaving all other clubs behind, even the rest of the "big 4" teams. This inequality will become apparent when teh rules come into play, nothing will change and the huge inequalities will still be present but we will have culled many of the teams with realistic title ambitions thanks to a big investor. I don't think that it is fair to stop teams like Man City and Chelsea from living the dream, and even if equality does miraculously occur, the last time such a phenomena occurred average viewing figures in the country dropped dramatically and has only just reached the same levels that it was at before the crash. An example of why equality is good would be an FA Cup tie between Man Utd and Chester City: •Chester fans, or people from the locality go to see an upset. •Man Utd fans go to see their team steamroller some nobody side. •Neutrals watch in the hop of an upset, or at the very least a close game. So viewing figures go up. Compare that to a game between Wigan Athletic and Wolves, two teams that are pretty equal: •Both sets of fans stay away because they can watch this team twice in the regular season, so why bother going? Also, you're probably going to lose... •TV viewers anticipate a boring game and go and watch Cash in the Attic or Bargain Hunt instead. Inequality is good! What I don't want to see is a tightly regulated league whereby you can't surge ahead and dominate, like all of the American sports leagues (apart from baseball, perhaps). This wouldn't work with football because it depends on the spectacle being edge-of-your-seat stuff and nail-bitingly good to watch. And when has a game between two teams that are inherently the same ever fulfilled those criteria?

You only remember success and my it's going to hurt when Ferguson goes and you ebb away like Liverpool did and Chelsea are currently doing. I personally can't wait. And you can say Balotelli is a c*nt if you want to, nobody is stopping you, but just remember, when you hate somebody you devote a piece of your life to them. And I could quite happily say the same about half of your team, in fact I can only think of two players who I like that play you...

Ballotelli Is a c*nt or should I say "Bibotelli". You've got to start somewhere, now the F.A cup final and no doubt the Premier League will be next in a few years maybe. They've had a few bad buys but once they realise what formation they want to play and stuff and then they can buy the right players to fit into the team and not just buying players by name. It's the clubs first final in what 36 years and they got there by beating their local rivals, of course they should be celebrating and every right to, they just can't get to carried away as there is one game left to play. London must be absolutely booming more than normal today, don't know how they can fit everyone in and police everything. London marathon, Stoke and Bolton fans traveling down as well as the Liverpool fans and then you've got the Arsenal fans out. A few junctions on the M1 apparently closed as well. @ Chunk,

I do think they we still lose though; getting way too excited Well they're only in the second season since the Arabs have took over aren't they(?), it took Chelsea a couple of seasons to get going. Maybe there's to many big ego's in City that need shipping out and get some team players in. Can't see City being as good as Chelsea just yet due to these financial rules coming in but sensible buys may change that.

I see what you mean, but in my humble opinion, there's no denying that the speed at which the internet is expediting globalization is heavily influencing the way even football clubs are run and, in a way, what they are. Football clubs are breaching their limits of merely being "local" sides and are truly becoming national and global brands. I highlighted a part of your quote because I wholeheartedly disagree with it. The social significance is still there, no doubt, but wages, marketing, merchandising, and ultimately profit are all very much integral to how football clubs are run nowadays, for better or worse. @predictions league players, why didn't anyone submit predictions this week? are you guys just giving the trophy the Stefche? I smell corruption.. Profit isn't integral to the way that football clubs are run nowadays. While there are some clubs who run profits each year and make an effort to achieve sustainable finances, Arsenal being a good example, there are far more clubs who make losses and have them covered by loans from a bank or a chairman. What you said may be becoming true of the teams at the top of the game, however for everyone else merchandise and profit comes a distant second to success. How about Stoke getting to the final guys?
