Is Niko alive? Or was he killed?

This mystery has went completely unsolved and there are parts of the game linking him to being alive, and others linking him to be dead. [THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS]

While playing as Michael, during certain parts of the game, Jimmy will be at the table on a laptop. You will see this on the laptop:

 

 

Then, we have the parts linking to Niko being dead.

 

Here is the 1st:

 

When planning the first Heist(The Jewelry Store), Lester talks about the old crew. He says "There was this Eastern European making moves in Liberty City, But nah, he went quiet".

 

 

By that, Lester (The Molester) could have meant that Niko is dead, or Niko stopped his old life of crime and retired (like Michael).

 

The 2nd:

 

After helping a man by the name of Patrick "Packie" McReary escape the police after a holdup, you can then use him as a Heist Crew member. If you choose him during The Paleto Score (takes 12%), he talks about Niko. Packie was one of the people who robbed the bank with Niko in GTA IV, and he talks about how one of the gunmen were killed by a hostage during the heist. Packie says he lost contact with Niko right after he left Liberty City to find a new life in Los Santos. Packie says that he presumes Niko to be dead.

 

 

Now. Maybe nobody will ever know the mystery of Niko Bellic. Maybe Niko popping up so much in the game is a sign that he will be in a future Story Mode DLC, or could return if a GTA VI is ever made. Maybe just one day...maybe, we will find out the fate of the loved GTA IV character, the infamous Niko Bellic.
