Future GTA Driving Mechanics/Handling/Physics

why didnt R* utilize Midnight Club Los Angeles for the car mechanics in GTA5 ?? Seems odd to me that they didnt reuse them like they did with Shooting mechanics in past games.

Myself, I would rather if the driving mechanics were closer to Midnight Club LA rather that what they are in GTA5.

My ideal driving mechanics for GTA would be just like Burnout Paradise, - it has a great balance of arcady/realistic and it super fun and easy, but R* dont own that

In my opinion in GTA 6 they should make 2 options for driving: one semi realistic (IV) and other arcadey (V) to make us happy

I dont think that would be practical (compared to having different targeting options for example), and i also dont think either GTAIV's or V are that great. V is better but still not great.

I really wouldnt see how both people who like IV or V wouldnt both love driving mechanics like Burnout Paradise - Its both semi realistic and also arcady, and it does both better than GTA.

i didnt play midnight club LA but i played Burnout Paradise and i loved the driving mechanics.

Isn't GTA V already a mix of SA/SR/MC:LA-ish driving mechanics?

They should IMPROVE upon what they made with IV/TLAD/TBOGT, not dumb it down.

I hated the driving mechanics in V. All the cars were too stiff and the dirtbike had nearly no suspension. If anything, why not tweak IV's handling to make it more smoother?

I'm not completely sure, but I think Midnight Club driving mechanics were optimized for racing. I haven't played LA in a while though, so I don't know how I'd feel about it.

Driving in V was nice. Corners were really tough to do in IV after driving in V for a while. The brakes were at least a lot nicer in V, and I'd like for them to be as responsive in future GTA games.

I couldn't even corner in V, seeing as the car was nearly glued to the ground. f*ck, I couldn't go from a stopping position to full acceleration without my controller shaking more than Michael J. Fox as I took off.

Moving the car in IV was easier, but turning kinda felt like trying to steer a boat through glue. I've always preferred to apply the handbrake when turning corners in games, so maybe that makes it easier, but I definitely didn't have any problems controlling the car. I can definitely see the vibrations being annoying though.

I liked in GTA: IV how it felt like you had to master the handling on every car.... as opposed to V where they are mostly very similar...:/

I really cant rap my head around the bias GTA4 fanboys have - saying GTA4's driving mechanics are much better than GTA5's, that GTA4 has better handling and is much more realistic (almost employing its a simulator) and that GTA5 is dumbed down arcady i.e. went downhill (like they are completely different, black and white).

First they are both very similar, they are both built off the same engine, they are both VERY!! arcady, and both are VERY!! far from realistic.

The only major difference is that in GTA4's world cars completely understeer and the suspension is made out of jelly so cars can just flip over like they are on the moon. In GTA5's world cars completely oversteer and the suspension is so good that cars can take turn super faster and have more downforce than an F1 car.

The problem with the driving mechanics in both games is the same problem that the on-foot mechanics of both games have (where you fall down if you tap of anything) - The Euphora animation engine.

I think driving mechanics more alike to Need for Speed Rivals, Midnight Club LA, Burnout Paradise etc..., or even Driver San Francisco would be much better than what we already got with GTA4 and GTA5.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is why a lot of people don't like the physics in GTA V. Yes they have more downforce than an F1 car which in turn numbs each vehicle's characteristics to the point the only main difference is their acceleration and top end speed. Even trucks and buses have on rails handling which IMO is stupid.

At least in GTA IV there's a noticeable difference in the way each type of vehicle behaves. I suppose in the grand scheme of things GTA V's physics are ok, but what kind of physics people prefer comes down to preference.

Even after 6 years GTA IV still has the best driving physics in any open world game I've played. If anything I want GTA VI to take a note from GTA IV and getting back to where vehicles actually feel different in the way they corner, understeer, oversteer etc instead of plain jane/generic physics that GTA V seems to employ.

You do realise that a lot more people didnt like GTA4's driving mechanics and thought GTA5 was a big improvement on it.

For me both are very poor.

(And all the cars do behave differently in GTA5 and are all fun in different ways, you just have a biased opinion.)

Anyways like I said in the OP why dont we forget about GTA4 driving mechanics vs GTA5 driving mechanics debate and in the future have driving mechanics like Midnight Club LA or Burnout Paradise or Need for Speed etc.

You must not have played a lot of open world racing games because Burnout Paradise is open world and has much better driving physics than any GTA.

Well that wasn't my point. I'm a aware more people liked GTA V's physics, but I was just highlighting why there are people who don't like them and it's because of a lack of distinction between vehicles.

To be honest I think you could've went about this thread a lot better than to label those who think GTA IV's are better as "fanboys".

Anyway I hope you realise nothing you say is going to change anyone's mind. For me I didn't find GTA V's physics an improvement. They're simply ok IMO.

How am I ignoring the topic of the thread? In my original post I said I wanted the physics to revert more towards what was in GTA IV.

Just because I don't agree with you doesn't mean I'm ignoring the topic at hand.

It would be nice if you would address my posts - where I discuss forgetting about GTA4 and GTA5 driving mechanics (i.e. the which is better debate - GTA4 is better they should go back to that for GTA6, or GTA5 is better thay should stay with them mechanics) and having completely new driving mechanics that are better than both GTA4 and GTA5 and that everyone could enjoy - driving mechanics more alike to Midnight Club LA, Burnout Paradise, Need for Speed, or Driver San Francisco.

I dont see why fans of GTA4 or GTA5 driving wouldnt like driving mechanics alike to them.

I dont mind if you dont agree with me but I would appreciate it if you would at least address my idea and explain your view on it instead of just saying 'I think they should be more like GTA4'

(I just dont see that as a constructive post.)

Well in that case I'd actually prefer something like Driver: San Francisco.

I have Midnight Club: LA, and in my opinion the driving sucks. GTA 4's is and was always my driving favourite, even though the jelly car feel isn't realistic, it sure is fun. GTA 5 and MC:LA has dull feel, when you go to a curb it teleports you up it because the cars literally have no suspension. Try it.

Sorry for any errors, I'm on my mobile phone.

Blennerville, you need to take a chill pill. Just because some of us liked GTA IV`s driving physics more, doesnt mean you get to sh*t all over our opinions. IV`s was so much better because it was realistic. V`s was dumbed way down. You probably enjoy V`s more because you sucked at driving in IV.So just because you created this thread doesnt give you the right to be dick to anybody who disagrees with you. And Son of Liberty, I cant believe you`re letting him get away with acting like this. He`s being a dick... he should at least be warned, dont you think?

That's kind of extreme. I don't feel he deserves a warning. It's not like he's flaming anyone on a personal level.
