Hot Wheels™ all Grown Up.

Recommended Posts

For me, when I was a kid growing up in the 60's and 70's, my number one favorite toys were Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars.

I had sports cars, sedans, coupe, utility trucks, police cars – you name it.

Then there were those crazy, funky "super" cars that were always, in my imagination, the cars of the "bad guys"...

... except, of course, for that one, special car that was for me, the "hero" of the whole menagerie.

That car was the 1970 Chevelle. It was my "good guy" car as a kid. That it's incorporated into this game as the Sabre just makes me so happy.

My other favorites, of course, were the Firebird/Trans Am and Camaro, like a lot of us.

But now, kids are treated to cars like the Lamborghini and even the Bugatti in Hot Wheels form. And they look awesome!

So, going back to your own youth and your experience with cars, cops n' robbers, good guys/bad guys, would you agree or disagree that many of us having been playing GTA-style games since we were little and that this iteration of the concept is perhaps the closest thing to those youthful times, except on a much more grandiose scale, given technology and gaming and such?

Just curious, as I realized today that I used to get so excited to get a new car or a new case (garage) to keep my cars in. It's not like the people who actually buy the real versions of these vehicles, because that's a whole different thing on another level, completely. I'm just talking about relaxation, entertainment, and chillin' in a fantasy world.

It's like playing with Hot Wheels, but all grown up. Just thinking, is all. Cheers! ;)

Hotwheels are nice. I owned a lot of them. I still have a 1969 from my dad. all wheels work perfectly, paint is scratched (obviously). and one hinge on the boot broke. 284px-Turbofire.jpg but mine is in purple

This one was a hot wheels car way back when i was a kid. I'm pretty sure i still have one as a matter of fact. I think as a kid i rubbed off the red and yellow stripes on the roof to make it look more like the real thing

I have some fond memories of Hotwheels too...But they are gone(it's still stashed somewhere in my house) along with my childhood.Ah the good old days where there are no video games but only tvs.I spent a part of my childhood watching Tom & Jerry and Mickey Mouse.

We all still love Mickey Mouse.

The hood bird aka "Screamin' Chicken" is my crew emblem. I also have a custom BAN ONE plate for the car. The stock wheels are painted gold using a glitch where you buy an aftermarket set and paint them bright yellow and then put the stock wheels back on. Unfortunately, you can't have white letter tires on stock wheels.

Same here. I've found myself forced into spawn killing way to many crew members lately though. Trying to be nice with crew members only to have them sticky my Phoenix or shooting at me for no reason when i pull next to them. Always ends up in a long lasting deathmatch.

How did you change the stock wheels colour?

Buy the cheapest costum rims, collor them race yellow and switch back to stock wheels. Now the original stock rims will be gold ish.

How did you change the stock wheels colour?I explained it above. Buy any aftermarket wheel and paint it bright yellow. Then put the stock wheels back on and they are gold. It's a glitch with the Phoenix. I don't know if it works on any other cars. Edited by blk95ta

I'm no troll but man I blew my toys to schit as a kid. Firecrackers, gas, rubber bands, sparklers, anything I could MacGuyver together for cool action scenes!

For me, part of the fun was stripping the "stock" colors from the cars and repainting them with cheap paint or markers. They never looked really good - as good as a kid can make them look, I suppose, but then I would take a hammer and a nail and make them look dented, crashed up, and like they'd been through hell. My brother and I used to do the same thing with the firecrackers and see how much abuse those little Wheels could take. Lots of fun.

Now, with GTA, part of the appeal for me is the same: customizing the rides and jumping, crashing, getting shot at, and generally abusing the life out of these cars. The difference here is that we can just bring them in and make them all happy pretty again for about $400 bucks! My poor Hot Wheels are probably jealous! ;)

I remember having a huge "Garage" made of track where I kept all my cars, and one of those big carpets where I'd drive them around. I used to get a torch too, close my curtains, turn the lights off and point the torchlight at the "baddies" car like a police helicopter's light while the cops chased them.

When I see some of the sets nowadays, I wanna be a kid again

Somehow - I don't think the Hot Wheels I had over here in the UK during the 70's quite match up to yours.

I had a couple of unique European-style cars in my collection (not really a collection, but what your average kid might have).

This one would have had a great spot in my lineup! ;)

My son has about 500 or so hot wheels cars. Blame me for that, Its an obsession  i just bought a couple more for him last week. He's 16 now..

I had them as a kid but they're all gone now.

He'll be working on a real car now. Our (his) project Malibu.

We still have em packed away in boxes and boxes. The wife wants to toss em, but I say, No Way!!

I also still have one of these:

15.182.jpg

You could turn around the front end, push it and when it crashed it would turn around to the crashed side. Making it look like its wrecked. 1983 blue version.

I remember those. I had a 4 door cop car that the side would get smashed in.
