Can't Decide Whether A Car Is Good At Drifting Or Not

Recommended Posts

So I was in a car meet earlier, and we had a drift competition. I didn't have an drift cars so I decided to use my Benefactor Serrano (SUV / Crossover) and put Tuner tires on it and changed the Transmission to Sport.

It worked okay. It held its own on the streets but once I hit the dirt, it wouldn't slide which was weird. So, I'm having trouble finding a good drift car considering the fact that I'm gonna sell the Serrano. Here's a list I'm thinking:

Futo

Dominator

Sabre Turbo

Habanero (don't know if this is a good drifter)

Schwartzer

Any auggestions?

the futo drifts like crazy when it's fully upgraded.

sabre futo and surprisingly the station wagon w/ sunroof

The station wagon with a sunroof...do you mean the stratum? If so, you realise it's an AWD that cant drift at all right?

OP - get a schwartzer and lower it with the glitch then go for a spin. If you want to drift, that's your car.

Depends what you class as drifting, just looks like old school powersliding with control to me. I own a Nissan S13 irl so I know a little about tail happy cars!

I think if you break traction and then control the slide it doesn't matter if it's awd or rwd.

I also have a Jaguar X type with awd (60/40 torque split) and that old girl definitely hangs her arse out round corners!

If you want a good drift car it's either the Futo or Banshee. Other cars are capable but are a lot harder to properly drift. The only awd I'd recommend for drifting is the Elegy.

I wouldn't downgrade the transmission either. It helps your car shift faster and gives you more power, both are good things in drifting.

Also, a lot of people are saying go fast but that always turns into more of a power slide. If you want to practice drifting, go to the Del Perro pier and practice on the wood decking. It's a little bit more slippery and makes for some fun drifts.

For me: (In order of speed)

1. Futo (Slow, awesome drifts)

2. Sultan (For those 90 degree corners)

3. Banshee (For those fast and far corners) < Pretty much my Favorite <3

Edit: TRUST me.. the wheels spin on that Banshee.

RWD cars are better for powerslidding "drifting", as the power is pushing the car through the turn. AWD and FWD cars 'pull' the car through the turn, which makes for MUCH BETTER control....not what you want when powerslidding "drifting".

IRL, actual drifting is done in cars w/a manual gearbox and clutch. Powerslidding can be done with any transmission.

Whats the difference between powersliding and drifting?

Power sliding is what it says. You use power to slide. Drifting is using the brake/hand(parking?) brake to lose traction.

In that case, what's the recommended transmission and engine upgrades for 'drifting'

Power sliding is what it says. You use power to slide. Drifting is using the brake/hand(parking?) brake to lose traction. Only in GTA does someone think that drifting requires the use of the handbrake

If you don't know, please don't spread mis-information and post what you THINK is the answer. Thanks.

"Technically, a powerslide is a technique in which you use the momentum of the car coming through the corner to slide. In a drift, the car is sliding before entering the corner.

Put another way, a powerslide loses grip after the apex of the turn, while a drift loses grip before.

Also, a powerslide can be a legitimate racing technique, allowing travel through a corner and into a straight faster, while a drift, excluding limited rally applications, is purely about show."

In GTA, most 'drifting' is actually powersliding....

So the only car that I can actually drift with is the futo because it can keep the drift for a while?
