Purpose of the Impound Lot

I can't seem to figure out its benefit. From what I can tell, it only stores and retrieves the last few vehicles I stole. It doesn't appear to store any default vehicles, vehicles I garaged, vehicles I purchased, or vehicles I modded. So what's the point? Is it merely to offer us a second chance to save a newly stolen vehicle? If this functions differently than I've observed or is supposed to, please tell me.

any vehicle u save in your 4 car personal garage then drive and leave will go to impound lot,but if u blow the vechicle up it will be gone,i pretty much just use it as a 2 car garage now.

It stores the last two cars you took to the LSC if you didn't manually save them or blow them up.

Sometimes it saves other cars you've driven too/instead, but for the most part it's working.

I just wish there was one in Blaine County.

I find it very useful. I get ejected from the window alot driving fast cars when i respawn the impound lot is just down the corner and i can keep gettin my car back for dirt cheap. I just wish there was more impound lots for example blaine county. I think gta sa had a similar system.

It increases the amount of cars you can store in singleplayer by 6.

@RodneysLeftNut: there was an impound lot in GTA SA, but it wasn't reliable at all.

Thanks everyone. I guess it is just behaving a little wonky for me. Hmm, I'm not sure how much I like this.

It seems pretty random for me. I don't mind, because when I'm in the area, I'll just see what's there. It seems to favor LSC cars though. Sometimes I'll find a scorcher, but that's the only bike I've ever seen there.

Yeah like Cutter said it will save LSC modified cars, and cars that have been in your 4 car garage. It will also at random, save cars you drive into mission start markers and to certain activities. The mission and activities are unreliable though, and it's hard to tell which ones will or won't trigger a car to the impound lot. Also quick saving in a car and switching characters removes the, "impound memory" if you will, so a car that's modified and been character switched for a quick repair, or whatever reason, won't show up at the impound lot like usual.

At least that's how it works for me. Keep in mind there might be other triggers that prevent a modified car from being saved, or have a car you wouldn't have thought to be saved show up there, so occasionally there might be instances where it does something unusual.

Thanks. I have to say, I never really think to use it.

I dunno if it was just my playthrough but it was always random at best what cars I could retrieve but then again this was way back when before any updates.

What I can say, sometimes it works great, for example Michaels car always appeared there but Franklins modified Manana never. This system is broken and very annoying.
