Retro

Atari 2600 - Was a great product for it's time. A greatest hits package for arcade games. It still holds up in time.

NES (Nintendo) - Was revolutionary for it's time and saved the gaming industry from a crash. However, most of it's games haven't aged well. For example, Metroid (1) was beaten by later Metroid games.

4th Generation

Super Nintendo - A total juggernaut that got third party support and a wealth of first-party support as well. Aged excellently.

Sega Genesis - Marketed mostly on a badass image. Console was poorly designed, with 3 additional upgrade purchases advertised. Really only had one original IP that stuck - Sonic.

5th Generation

Nintendo 64 - With an awkward controller and cartridges instead of disks it was behind the times. With less third party and an overall small library of games, it was a step back for Nintendo. But it was great for Rare.

Sony Playstation - Many of it's classic games were mechanic-based and therefore were beaten by sequels. But it did great on third party, had strong hardware and was overall a good value for the time.

6th Generation

Microsoft Xbox - Succeeded with it's bad-boy image, superior online play and the massive success of Halo. Offered great online for it's time, and has a few niche exclusives, but overall hasn't aged well nostalgia aside.

Sony Playstation 2 - Massive game library. It was great for indie/niche devs. Technologically strong for it's time. Nails it on every level.

Nintendo Gamecube - Lacked a DVD player and battled a kid-friendly image, but that aside, it featured many of Nintendo's greatest games.

7th Generation

Nintendo Wii - A lot of it's hit games haven't aged very well. It was weak in hardware, online, and third party. And it was largely a fad.

Microsoft Xbox 360 - Helped Xbox become a household name. Was overall a very good purchase for it's time. Later in the gen, it lacked a variety of exclusives outside of shooters and its exclusives relied too much on sequels.

Sony Playstation 3 - Had a really rough launch and that affected the quality of the system, but it overall had strong third party and exclusives.

I own a Playstation 2, the older phat variant. Still runs smoothly. I barely play, but it's always a nice thing to have :)

I previously owned a GameCube.

We had a Sega Genesis back in the day and some Japanese console (I don't remember what it was) before we got the Playstation in the mid 90s.

I loved the Genesis and some of my favourite games were Sonic, Ghosts n Goblins, WWF etc. We had hundreds of those Japanese games for the other console such as Adventure Island, Rainbow Island, Battle City, Circus Charlie, Ninja Turtles and whatnot.

I also got a Gameboy for my fifth birthday or something.

Then when I got my first PC in '97, everything changed and I never played another console game again haha.

I remember N64 the best, because Zelda ocarina of time was so brill on it, and because every other game on it was horrible rubbish.

-kinda expensive buy for a single decent game...

I've had some time ago since 2007 a PS2 Slim which I gave to a friend since my 16mb memory card stopped working and I couldn't save files. I've also had a Game Boy and a PSOne a long time ago and I still have my broken PSP 1000.

You could always take a spare PC power cord and cut a few triangular grooves into it, works just as well.

OT: I had a bunch of older consoles, but gave them away to a cousin since all they did was take up space in a storage closet. Kinda wish I kept some of the original boxing and whatnot now, oh well.

N64 was my first and favourite console and I still own it, and Diddy Kong Racing was my first game and its still my favourite. I had a nes with a few games, Mario and some duck hunting game on one cartridge, Power blade, Battletoads and Jurassic Park can't remember any others. I still own my snes, xbox, gamecube, ps1 and ps2 as well. I've never owned a sega but my cousin did and I would borrow it to play sonic. I've owned some handhelds, original gameboy, gameboy colour, game boy advanced and sp, and the donkey kong game and watch.

I've still got a Nintendo 64, Gamecube, PS2 and a Wii.

I can't see myself getting rid of any of them any time soon.

I own 10 PS2s if you include my daughter's. True story. The ToCA Race Driver games from Codemasters (V8 Supercars here in Australia) were awesome on that system. Codies really need to get back with that format and it seems they've finally seen sense and are doing so with the upcoming release of GRID: Autosport.

I grew up with a PS1 but I really wish It was a N64 instead.
I'd have loved to have grown up with Banjo-Kazooie instead of Ape Escape.

I used to play Toca 2 on my PS2, it really was damn fun. I preferred that over my Gran Turismo games. Plus at that time, the game looked sweet!

And you need to get yourself a better grasp of the english language, to not tell other people what to do and in general cease and desist pushing your beliefs onto others. You are so eternally clueless you didn't even think to consider the circumstances in which owning 10 PS2s would be reasonable. I run a business and unlike you, don't depend on mummy and daddy's allowance each week for my money. In this business we have many PS2s networked and on these consoles, the kids that come into our business enjoy playing various games on these PS2s on a LAN. I realise you still haven't finished paying mummy and daddy off for your copies of GTA V and TLoU but unlike you reddy, we're not all poverty-stricken, living in our parent's basements and don't take 2 years to save up for a game. Now on your way.... :D

If you truly run a business than you are still in dept from your loans aren't you?

Interesting cause I bought PS4, a new $600 Sony TV, GTA V, Madden 25, Injustice Gold edition, TLOU plus its DLC, Ghost ( Still regret this one ), BF4 and etc.. while you're the one who doesn't even own a PS4 or any of those games I just listed that came out cause you are the one who has to save up.

Truth be told I bet you that you are on poor dude who has to live off pay check to pay check cause you have a spending problem.

The word is DEBT, reddy, (see previous comments on getting a better grasp of english) and no. I could buy several PS4s and XBOnes if I wanted to but I'm not interested in the next gen consoles until later iterations come out that have larger HDD capacities and the kinks that inevitably are present with the first iteration of any console get ironed out. You'll still owe mummy and daddy for all that sh*t you mentioned you own if you manage to reach old age no doubt. Now back to the sandpit I'm sure there's some other kids for you to annoy there. :D

My bad for a few incorrect uses of the English language. Can you teach me more teacher? It's not like I pay bills with words? We all make mistakes and can afford to make mistakes with this language while money you can't.

Key word you can. I can buy the moon but you know why I can't cause I'm not that rich. Just keep coming up with BS excuses cause I would love to hear them.

Cool that I owe mommy and daddy money cause I don't. You keep mentioning that I wonder why? Maybe cause you OWE your parents money and you don't want to feel alone so you say everyone.

Do you own them all? All the ones you've bought since day one? In my case, by strange luck of fate, rather then intent. I have! Coleco Gemini, Magnavox Odyssey in fact, the first game system EVER!?!!

What really pissed me off about N64 was that it was supposed to be better than psone. And in paper it was. But sadly, they never used it's potential in the games that followed.

That's not the console's fault. Seems to me like you're just blindly hating on the N64. The N64 being better than PS1 is subjective, but you cannot give a console negativity, at least not to an extent, because of it's library of games. And again, there's a list of games in this topic that are incredibly well made N64 games. It just seems like you like to ignore the good things and focus on the bad ones.
