Player audio off?

Last month or so I noticed there was no "loud annoying music", no whinny 12 year old, no stoners talking about crazy krap. So I have checked all my settings and can't get online player chat anymore. Was there a patch that disabled chat? I have lobby chat set to everyone.

I think Rockstar can Mute Ban you. Meaning no can hear you or can't hear anyone.

 

Maybe you've been reported for talking on the Mic?

Mic use is odd. All it takes is one person to start, then boom. 8 people are talking.

 

OP, is your chat settings to everyone in the quickaction menu? How about the voice preferences in your Xbox settings (assuming you are on 360)? Lastly, do you have a headset with a chat volume dial? Maybe it's one of these.

I have seen this (in a video), I think you get an on-screen message when signing in.

 

Probably a precursor to CP or something.

Finally, all my friends are asking if I can hear them and I cant. I have not been reported because i dont have a mic so that is ruled out. I have set everything to default and still cant hear anyone ...Some tech expert, hop in here and fix this please...

What do you mean? We are in invite only together. All their mics are on and i hear nothing.

I think I need to double check all this. When I go to public I turn everything off. With friends and crew I change it back. probably f'd up somewhere.

First rule out if it is on your end. I've had mics go out on me before. Go to your friends list and select send message. Just say anything and click done, before you send it click the playback button and if you can hear your message then its not your mic but if you hear nothing then it is your mic.

 

If you rule out your mic then check your settings next. Set it to crew/friends or everybody. Then check your voice settings on the Xbox ( if you are on Xbox) and make sure its set to play through headset.

 

If none of this works then I got nothing else. Maybe try setting your Xbox or PS3 on fire

I was banned once from chat without using a mic because I kept killing these two idiots who came at me with a tank and were talking sh*t while they were doing it...so when I started killing them, I started doing the same...they reported me and I was banned... You do get a message each time you join a new lobby saying that you are banned... to get out of this ban, have your friends commend you, I think it takes 5 commends.

I noticed that as well the past few days. No crying kids or people blasting hip hop over the speakers. I'm kinda glad of the break but now I'm starting to question if I got a "mute ban" never seen a message for it yet though.

If it partially works and you can't hear your friend but they can hear you. Sometimes using the cellphone and making a direct connection to them will fix the issue. I've had it happen where i have 4 friends on and I can only hear 3 of them. Then i figure out from the conversation that the 4th person is really talking too.

 

The worst is when the game screws up. And you can't mute anyone. And you hear every damn conversation going on despite what your setting are.

OP if it still isn't working, hold select and make sure your voice chat is set to everyone.

I hardly ever use my headset, I've been listening in the past via the tv speakers, I wonder if I accidently set the xbox in game voice to play via headset only (is that possible?) I don't think I checked any xbox settings, only in GTA, I'll check that tonight!

Im perm voice chat muted now. So when I am joining a session I can hear everyone. But as soon as I spawn it cuts off and I get the message saying I am muted.
