The Weather and Climate Topic

Yep, how's the weather where you live? Is it hot, cold, dry, wet?

Here in Florida, it's hot nearly all the time. Hot and humid, might I add. It's even worse when it rains, which more often than not is a downpour. I took a picture of what we in Florida call a "regular rainfall"

It's the end of April, and there aren't any leaves whatsoever on the trees yet. Pretty unusual for us, they would at least have started sprouting by now. It's been cloudy and rainy these past few weeks in the 50s, though today it was 65 and sunny for once.

ExtremoMania

It's usual here in the Philippines, it's hot, since April-May is our summer months. Temperatures here are like well 30+ degrees Celsius especially in afternoon. There are only occasional rains happening and it mostly downpours in the late evening to early morning.

You do realize that discussing the weather is literally the lamest topic for a thread, right ut? It's basically an expanded how was your day.

Spice it up with some tornadoes and hurricanes or the like or this won't last long.

As a weather geek, I love this thread already.

Here in the Bay Area we have a very "desirable" climate by many people's standards. Summers are hot and very dry where I live, averaging in the upper 80s for highs but with relatively cool nights in the 50s. Though contrary to what people think, we get a respectable amount of rainfall in the winter - in my area, we get about 20 inches, and in other parts of the Bay Area they get anywhere from 12 to 50 inches a year. Not bad when compared to "rainy" cities like London, which gets about 25 inches if I remember correctly. It is much more sunny here than cities like that of course, with rain falling on just a few days each month in relatively large amounts. It's enough to make the hills green in the winter.

Last year was very strange and very crappy though. It can be considered the worst of the drought we're in, and less than 5 inches of rain fell. Things have been improving in 2014 so far though, as every month except for the horrible, completely dry January (which is usually our wettest month) have been getting more normal amounts of precipitation. The hills are much more green now than they were in early winter, which is very strange for us, but I can tell they're starting to turn yellow again as the dry season approaches. What a shame.

As you may have noticed, I prefer more rainy climates. My ideal climate in the USA would probably be somewhere in northern Oregon, though I would also take places like Seattle and Boston over my current location. Not to say the climate of my hometown is bad, but I just think it's too hot, dry and sunny.

Oh yeah, and for this week we're going to be having hot weather in the 90s (unusual for this time of the year) and then it's supposed to cool down into the 70s but still be sunny.

Back during hurricane sandy, we got a lot of utility trucks polluting our roads on the way to Jacksonville because of some republican convention or something along those lines.

Weather and climate, yes. "How's the weather where you are today", no.

Where I live

Summer = 35ºC

Winter = -5ºC

sooo... it's hot and cold and we get used to, but I love the summer.

There's a river here where I live, and me and my dad, uncles, etc. go fishing, riding jetskiis, etc., drinking beer, barbecues..... so yeah, summer's awesome. Winter sucks.

Right now it's very cold, f*cking boring.

Weather is garbage here. Just in the past week we have had

-74 and sunny

-50 and cludy

-Torrential downpour for the last 4 days straight. About 40 degrees so it feels even worse.

-currently snowing

Sounds pretty nice to me. But hey, I'm crazy.

We're enjoying Southern California-esque weather down in San Antonio. It's dry, clear, somewhat hot, and windy. Unfortunately, there are fire threats and that is killing all of the fun. :(

It would be livable if it was consistent. Mid 70s one day and then 5 days later having snowfall is just ridiculous. That's why I liked Arizona much better you could expect it to always be hot and sunny in the summer and warm and sunny in the winter. And have rain in the fall but it never surprised you like weather here in MN does.

I live in Arkansas, and right now the weather has been pretty nice. It was a little rainy today, but it has since tapered off and it's been nice and breezy. Usually, summer gets hot as hell and we hit drought conditions, so hopefully we can get more rainfall this year. Also, it's severe weather/tornado season. We had tornadoes roll through Sunday night and tear sh*t up in Vilonia and a few other places.

Out here in the Mid-West of the United States, the high for tomorrow is 59 Degrees with a low of 44.

There is a 30% chance of rain, so take your umbrella with you.

As always, stay sharp Mid-West...en...ers.

Enjoy your corn and "mushroom" hunting.

It's dry, hot, and generally miserable. Actually it isn't too bad. I just wish we would have a bit more of rain or at the very least overcast skies. I haven't seen a good thunderstorm in a while however.

Oh and not to mention the days when you can't go outside without getting sandblasted by dust-storms which is just about every day.

the weather where I live is just about perfect.

in Denver, Colorado the Rocky Mountains break up most weather systems as they travel Northeast.

most people think of the coastlines when they think of warm, sunny places. but in the US, Denver actually has more sunny days than almost any other city. we get pretty consistent seasons of snowy winters and rainy springs but everything is relatively mild.

lots of sun, no natural disasters.

the occasional forest fire way up in the hills, but no real tornadoes or earthquakes or hurricanes or droughts or floods or anything.

I'm curious, what do you all consider the "ideal" climate? Here's mine, conveniently presented in a box so I don't have to describe it with a huge wall of text.

IMG_20140121_081222.jpg

(For perspective, Seattle receives about 37 inches of rain and NYC recieves 49 inches, identical to my ideal climate but NYC has more humidity. Snowfall is nearly identical to Boston.

Now that I think of it I should probably lower the amount of rainy days and make the winters colder, but it's still pretty ideal imo

I really really hate cold winters with a passion. And I also like having really hot summers because I kind of enjoy the feeling of extreme heat. It makes me feel very relaxed and calm.

So my ideal climate I guess would be average summer temps in the 90-115 range. and winter temps in the 65-90 range.

With as little precipitation as possible and as little humidity as possible.

Nah Tso Gud

I just spent 4 nights in PCB Florida and left right as all that bad weather was coming in... Pensacola had like what? 24" of rain, probably more so far?? It was raining here in MN the entire time I was down there though.... still only around 35 degrees too :( It's practically May dammit.

Sounds like you'd like death valley, lol. Or Yuma Arizona. Sunniest place in the states, and I'm pretty sure it's the driest too. I personally can handle extreme heat pretty well, but I just don't enjoy it. Our summers here are already too hot for me. I like it in the 70s or 80s for highs during these months-perfect for outdoor summer activities but not too hot.

Also, I find the desert landscape that dominates dry and hot areas extremely fascinating, but I would hate to live in it. I like seeing things green and sprouting with life when I walk out my door.

Well most of Arizona. Like Scottsdale where my family lives. It's like heaven on earth for me. At this very moment i live in MN which is the worst climate in the US I believe. And it's not just the weather I hate I just don't fit in very well here which is why I'm moving.
