Simple Tank Fix

Lots of people complain about tanks. Others think those people need to shut up. I, on the other hand, remain somewhere in the middle.

The PROBLEM with tanks is that there is no way to react to a surprise cannon blast. For example, I was driving a modded Buffalo to LSC to sell. Didn't realize it didn't have insurance on it at the time, I was stupidly under the impression that every car you pull into your garage is automatically insured. Guess not... and I only found out because suddenly I was blown up by a tank hiding in an alleyway. There goes a bunch of money, no change to react, no chance to avoid it, just BOOM and gone.

So, easy fix, and one that really won't alter the balance of the game much, if at all: If there is a tank on the map being controlled by a player, it should be represented on the map by a tank symbol.

There you go. Easy, quick fix to nearly every problem the tank represents, AND a great thing to throw in the face of people who want to complain, because all you have to do is NOT go near that area of the map, and you won't be killed by it. Conversely, those who want to do battle will know right where to find it - which I think is more than fair.

If someone is moving slowly on the minimap you should always expect it to be a tank, no need for a sign.

We need anti-tank measures ASAP.

-Merryweather infrared lazer designator to paint targets for another player piloting a Buzzard or jet to lock on to.

-The air strike feature should use this pointer too, instead of the useless flare acting as an IR strobe.

-Javelin rocket system

-land mines

...as a matter of fact, there needs to be a military DLC, including the addition of a sixth star.

This is not a new idea, but it is still a good one.

Honestly we just need an anti-tank weapon then everyone will be happy.

yeah,so next time if you are in a car,you should get a car icon?if you are in a jet,you should get a jet icon?funny.

honestly as long as they put back the onus of insurance payment back on the tank griefers, I don't care if they blow-up every car in my garage, as I don't to have to pay for any of it the griefer does. This current situation pretty much encourages every player near the Eclipse tower region (where pegasus spawns the tank) to either drive in tanks or their sh*ttiest cars (so insurance is low) as tanks can come from anywhere blow you up and you have to pay the insurance, and then they probably decide to spawn kill until you go into passive mode.

No, why do you ask?

If you're in a tank, you should have a tank icon. Period. No "so this and that and the other thing", just tanks. Because it's obvious when a jet is coming - you can hear it from a mile away, and you have MORE than enough time to take cover. You don't need to know when people are in cars, if you're any good behind the wheel they won't be able to kill you anyway (unless they bomb you, but i have yet to be RANDOMLY bombed by someone while driving a personal vehicle, usually it's during a street war or something else).

Well what happened to you could've easily happened with a sticky bomb out of nowhere. Just pay attention to the radar, I always do. & also like when I'm driving around & out of nowhere I see a tank & say "oh sh*t, time to go" that would ruin it with an icon. Though I'm rarely on the ground these days.

So they DID pay insurance once? I wondered why I kept having to pay whenever a tank would destroy my personal car. Any idea why they changed it?

Just close your mouth if you have nothing intelligent to contribute.

Great idea OP.

A lot of people on this forum are unable to read properly and/or only reply to the title.

Anyways, this is actually a very good idea. And while it won't change the fact that the tank is all powerful, it would really help when it comes to some people just free roaming, not realizing that there is a tank around the corner.

This is something that really should be implemented, and I think if Rockstar would do anything about the tank, it would be similar to this.

So yes, great idea OP.

Go in passive mode while in the tank and park in front of the door to LSC.

People think you are in the garage and you can blast them to hell.

Seriously though, they really need to bring back the tank sniper.

This changed when they introduced the patch to fix the issue where bad sports would ram their cars into a tank and give the tank user a bad sport.

I assume that this is because the game is unable to tell the difference between an explosion caused by the tank ramming something and the cannon firing.

I meant to combine this with my other comment, sorry for the double post... :/

It's meant to be if the tank isn't moving they don't have to pay the insurance but if they are moving & blowing cars up they will. Still it doesn't always work properly.

BaM BooZeLLed

I just want the tank to have a weak point where you dont have to toss 50k in RPGs at one tank before it blows. Even if it did like 50% more damage when striking that location. Just give me something!!!!

My Current Solution:

Invite a friend

Both get tanks

End

I think most people are slightly ignorant to two factors - one that it was parked in an alley, and two it was a surprise attack.

OP, I think the easiest way to deal with this (sadly) is that whenever you've got "things to do" (like this) then enable passive mode. Whilst this doesn't prevent people from attacking you or blowing up the vehicle you're driving, it may make people in those tanks think about engaging a more worthwhile opponent.

Furthermore, if passive mode worked as it should do, it would be similar to how it is on missions... other players cannot, in any way shape or form, blow up your vehicle, as long as you are in it. (Note, I've not tested this against a tank driving over me). You'd also remove the ability to run people over or sitting on top of them, killing them even if in passive mode.

I personally believe that's the best and most viable option.

Of course, we need AT/ Anti Armour weaponry. Having said this, the P996 is a formidable weapon system against tanks. A few good shots off on the rear of the tank and it'll be smoking. You may not even need to make a second pass. But, perhaps an exclamation mark blip, or different coloured blip would somewhat work too.

EDIT - since 1.11 (correct me if I'm wrong) tank drivers have been "allowed" to destroy other's Player Vehicles due to many people abusing tank drivers, by driving into the rear of the tank, which would result in the tank driver getting the bad sport marks.

You have passive mode for a reason so spawn killing cant be an issue, you need to keep your eyes open and stay alert.

Who the hell drives an uninsured car they have spent cash on past another blip? Regardless of what they may be driving.

Edit: simple tank fix more realism

They need to add more realism to the tank a 1 man tank that can shoot its cannon per second are you fking kidding me.

First off tanks are never 1 man you need a crew of people in real life to use a tank, one to load artillery another person to control the tank and so on, they need to make it more realistic as in if i throw a sticky bomb onto the tank tracks is should blow/damage the tanks tracks to render is slower if i stick bomb both tracks it should be rendered useless the reload time on the cannon needs to be way longer and couple rpg's to the back of the tank should be more then enough to take one out.

needs more realism the tanks in GTAO are fake as sh*t and way to over powered.

Shoots tank cannon with rpg nothing happens....riiiigggghhht.

From what I gather if you're in a tank and you blow up a PV then you pay, if you're in a tank and you're staying in one spot and blowing up PVs then you don't pay.

Can someone confirm/deny this?
