On April 29, 2008 it was the birth of a legend. 6 year later the legend still lives on.

Happy birthday IV. The best GTA ever made and ever will be. :)

My first time playing IV and EFLC was in 2010, in fact, that game was the reason why I bought an Xbox360, and it's one of my top 5 favorite games of all time. Don't care what others say, it's one of the best GTAs and one of the best stories out there. I really miss that year.

Happy launch-birthday IV!

Hmmm nice bike

Wow, it's been 6 years! I still remember the hype surrounding the launch and seeing it all over the place on the news. I never played the game until about a week after its release, but it was still a memorable experience for me, and a reminder of the good summer I had, too. I need to start playing through the story again once I get a chance to, since I still think IV had one of the best stories in the series.

I too can't believe how 6 years has passed since GTA IV was released. The lively city, the suburbs in Bohan, North Algonquin, Broker, Dukes and Alderney, the ever changing atmosphere of each day, the sunrise and sunset amongst the city and the silhouette of Niko standing on a roof top or a bridge waiting for a magical event of the sun rising or setting against the concrete jungle of which is LC.

The dark and gritty parts of LC, and the danger of the gangs just moments away from chasing you by the slight intimidation if you get too close or provoke them. The gripping story, the struggle of Niko and Roman evolve throughout the story of the game against all odds. How R* made this game is so special to me, that it is something that I can just go back to without as such getting too bored, and investigating places that I missed the first time around 5 or so years ago, and really to start to appreciate the game for what it is.

IV to me, no matter how old it gets, will certainly be better than other similar games being released nowadays in my opinion.

There are other games I like so much as well, but IV in the sandbox genre including VC and VCS really makes me like the GTA series so much since GTA 1

I can't believe it.

I can somehow still remember booting up GTA IV for the first time back on the 29 of April. Times were a lot simpler back then, well for me anyway. That may or may not be a factor in why I remember it as the most excited I've ever been for a video game- I don't know; but we should all be able to admit that GTA IV was an incredible and unforgettable experience, especially since it was so ahead of its time.

Playing GTA IV for the first time is, I am quite sure, an experience that will never be topped by any video game I ever play. The car deformation and ragdoll physics were simply phenomenal. Heck, that's putting it lightly. They were unlike anything I had ever seen before. The city was beautiful, a fully realized New York parody that matched the tone, the ambience, the gritty and realistic city vibe. Every street had all the tiny details you would find on a real city street from the trash bags, cardboard boxes, dumpsters, fire hydrants, hookers. It was believable, and that's what set it apart from any other open world game before it.

And then there was Niko, our unique, Eastern European protagonist who was also unlike anything we had seen in a previous GTA game. He had more motivation and emotion than any protagonist before him. His thirst for revenge was what drove the story line from being a little tale about a small time street thug for hire, to an epic about a dangerous criminal at the top of Liberty City's most wanted. The other characters really complimented Niko's motivation and were also well written.

Anyway sorry for rambling. I've been lurking these forums for awhile now; I'm not sure how long. I though that I would finally make an account today so I can post my appreciation for my favorite GTA on it's 6th birthday. It is extremely hard to fathom that 6 years have gone by since the release of this masterpiece considering I can vividly recall the insane experience I had the very first time I played it. Not many games have had that impact on me. I still play it every now and again to try and spark up that feeling I had back in 2008. It comes to me in short bursts, like a déjà vu that transports me back for a split second. This game holds up very well for a 6 year old game. I doubt that I will be playing GTA V 6 years from now. I'm rapidly losing interest in it. The feeling is just not there. I love it to pieces, don't get me wrong, but it just can't compare to what GTA IV did for me over the last 6 years.

Thanks for reading this post, it's my first on the GTA forums. I've wanted to post for a very long time now, but nothing has given me that push to finally create an account and express myself. I have always been afraid to, especially after seeing the amount of hate and stupidity thrown around on here. But I guess I couldn't resist letting out my opinion on this game and how after 6 years, it's impact on me has yet to be forgotten.

It's already been 6 years. The time just flies by. I remember when I was 8 I ran to a game store and bought GTA IV and all of my friends at school were jelaous because their computers were too slow and GTA would lag. Those were some good memories.

Happy birthday GTA IV!

I don't think GTA IV will be forgotten any time soon. I mean just the whole experience of taking a relaxing drive around Liberty City with all of it's vibe right there. V to me is just not the same feeling as I got with IV. I remember when I was getting excited before IV's release, and it was my first GTA game that I completed the story without stopping for long periods of time like the previous GTA's.

GTA IV to me, is a simple, interactive, interesting, well put together, and a unique vibe game. It's still a strong game graphically, and story wise after those 6 years today.

Happy Birthday IV.

I don't think any other game series gets this kind of appreciation of celebrating it's birthday since release. Now where is a candle and a chocolate cake.....

"Daddy's back you bitches!"

This will always be my most memorable moment playing GTA IV, coming into the new generation I was already on my toes the minute we got to see Niko.. HD graphics and a new version of Liberty City. From that day on I never thought I'd purchase the game 2 more times on PS3 the next 5 years, 2 more times on PC (had the physical PC version at first which then I lost right when I upgraded from a laptop to an actual gaming PC) and then the complete pack on 360 2 years ago) and literally have over 500 hours of gameplay all throughout, not just in the Single player which kept making me come back to over 10 times, but also to play with a huge group of friends since 2008 which we made online events together, creating the first ever recorded GTA IV Demolition Derby, Busted custom game mode, and much more..

These are things that I don't ever see myself facing again in R*s newest title, GTA V.. whether it ever releases on PC or not. I'll be playing IV all throughout the day today and hopefully it won't be just for 24 hours but for the rest of the month instead.

Happy birthday GTA IV! Never forgotten

I was around 9 or 10 years old when GTA IV launched. I didn't play it at launch or have a PS3 or xbox 360 to play it. However I did play it at my older cousins house along with my other cousin. I remember when he went to Honkers once, asked for a private dance by accident and me and him kept fighting over a pillow to cover our faces until we found the button. I also remember gazing at the LC skyline for the first time, what a sight to see! It was the last week of 2010 when I got my PS3. My uncle gave me GTA IV and Uncharted 1. I also had Black ops 1 and Infamous at the time. GTA IV was the game me and my sister played together. I helped her through the story a bit but we didn't get far. (Fun fact: GTA IV is the only game I have kept with me since I got my PS3 and to this day still have it). I have too many memories from this game that I would love to tell but I'm on my phone right now and kind of lazy. Maybe another time.

It's been a good 6 years playing this game and growing up with it.

For me GTA IV is like a fine wine. It gets better with age.

I'm still playing the save I finished weeks ago and people say there's nothing to do after the story? Pfft.

2008. I got my new computer. I had already GTA4 installed 'cuz my cousin installed it himself on, as I was already a big fan of the GTA Series. I launched it, and I had to sadly say, GTA4 is my favorite game I ever played. It has beaten the Super Mario Bros. :p

I just played since November 2013 but GTA IV is one of the biggest leaps R* has created. Story mode is so long, around 2-3 days long for me, and it keeps me enjoyed (97 missions, wtf GTA V only has 69).

The thing that always makes me laugh: Roman calling me for BOWLING while being chased in a 5-star wanted level.

Happy birthday, GTA IV!
I just started a new game this week. That first part of the game where you arrive in the new city, try to get used to it and have to deal with the unexpected problems is my favorite one in terms of atmosphere.

Played some bowling earlier with one of the recognized characters in the game that likes bowling ("Niko it's me, your cousin, let's go bowling") (along those lines), and I have to say it is something that I think made this game what it is, a slightly annoying friend which never gets too old listening too asking to go bowling nearly all of the time.

How things have changed in the gaming industry definitely in these past 6 years since IV. Heck even Uncharted 1 still looks great after 7 years.

Awesome thing about GTA 4 is six years by and still arguably one of the best open world games around. Graphics is also still decent looking.

I agree with SonOfLiberty's post about GTA IV's similarities to a fine wine.

It does indeed get better with age. When I play it now, I appreciate how well it enthralls the player with it's dark and gritty atmosphere, and amazing physics simulations that you can't find anywhere else, not even in its successor, GTA V.

It may not be the GTA with the most amount of vehicles and activities, and it might not have the biggest map or the prettiest graphics- but a lot of GTA IV's qualities are underappreciated.

I love how Rockstar made the game they wanted to; they knew that not everyone would love it and embrace it's new mechanics and gameplay model, but they took a risk and it paid off considerably well. It's the second highest selling GTA of all time, and a personal favorite to myself and many others on this forum. That has to count for something.

GTA IV is such a wonderful and enjoyable game, its the quality that makes me love it so much. So much detail, atmosphere, and depth. I also agree with SoL, it is like fine wine. I just have to replay the storyline each summer. I still mainly play IV on a session that I finished years ago. My last save was June 1st of 2012 and I left it like that because it was the best way to begin IV each day whilst I waited for GTA V: clear weather at Playboy X's flat at 5:30AM with a blue Banshee and a green Coquette parked out front.

Lol at the physics. I still remember the first few days playing it and I felt genuinely sad whenever I bang someone while driving. Exaggerated yes but memorable nevertheless. :)
