Know it's an old thread but I need some feedback on a HUD I'm making for a GTAVI concept, I tried the fanart thread but no one seems to be biting.

Input on what I should change/improve would be appreciated.

I agree. It was nice and uncluttered and I liked the square mini map better than the circle one

You could add some new ability bar.

Hmm not sure what I could add, if you meant like in terms of a special abillity I've already added one it's the eye next to the armour icon and it symbolizes the ability of intuition. In terms of adding something else though I guess maybe stamina meter? but I don't want the map to look too busy with all the percentages. Thanks for the suggestion appreciate it.

 

@Blood is in Diamond Yeah I agree V's HUD is pretty much perfect but I didn't want to just do something like recolour V's HUd, wanted to make something new for better or worse.

So it's like an ability bar?

 

I dunno. GTA 5 had it pretty good with the actual bar-bars and stuff. Hell, even the special abilities themselves seemed a bit weird and made the characters feel less "grounded", if you catch my drift.

Yeah I prefer the bars aswell but I wanted to do something different, also I kind of missed the health/armour percentages of the older games so I tried to work that in. I see what your saying in terms of the abilities though, they did seem out of tone when the game was pretty grounded compared to past gta's, this ability would kind of be needed for the the main idea I've got going for my concept.

Every OWGs are Implementing the 3D GPS (Square Shape) and GTA is first to have it (with V),Infamous also adopted it with the 3rd game,Watch-Dogs (a new franchise even have it).Saints Row is the only OWG franchise that doesnt even implement great features or innovate instead they f*cked the franchise with 3 and 4 and always lack behind i.e.No Saints Row game ever had a Cover System,Better Aim,Realistic Carjacking etc and it a franchise that started when GTA was just entering it 3rd Gen of Consoles with the HD Era games (7th Gen's PS3/XB360).If anything this HUD idea should be taking to the Saints Row forum for use in SR5 lol...GTA have a superb evolution and have made alot of progress in just 17 yrs of it existant and V is a prove (the game even borrowed and modified elements from RDR and MP3 but some people wouldnt agree with this).V is the last GTA game on the PS3/XB360 Era but it did the following and atleast innovates;

1.3-Protagonists-System

2.Refining many Core elements of the Franchise

3.Great Graphics and Gameplay (Features)

4.A 3D GPS (something new to the franchise and Genre)...ETC.

Seems like that'd be cool if they actually made stealth non-broken, kinda like the eye crosshair in Skyrim.

 

Other than that... it just seems kinda big and overwhelming... I'm usually certain which weapon I have equipped, and the stars are a little large. I also like bars to signify my health and armor, since they're a lot easier to see by glancing in the corner of your screen real quickly. Maybe a combination like Team Fortress 2?

Cash and time I could take or leave. It's nice not having to open the phone and go to the organizer to find the day of the week... Looks like the cash would get pretty small the more decimal points you go...

 

And on a more personal issue, I never really liked the square mini map... a small circular compass in the corner with a block radius and a compass is what I like, but the huge square of map when you hit down on the d-pad in GTA O is very nice.

 

Overall,

Some necessary features of the HUD seem a bit too small and under developed, and less meaningful parts seem too blown up... Reminds me of Vice City's annoyingly large and ever-present HUD.

This is the kind of feedback I wanted :^:definitely will make some changes with your post. In terms of the team fortress health I actually tried to do something similar (armour is at 70% and the blue has drained down a bit) but maybe it's too small to see or I need to change the colours so it's clearer. as for adding the weapons icon I guess it was more down to nostalgia but I didn't miss it in V so it isn't necessary.

 

I wasn't a fan of the square hud aswell at first but now that I've gotten use to it I don't think I could go back to the circle, the square just allows for more info to be displayed in one place so the overall HUD looks less cluttered.

I thought that too but the numbered games seem to stick to green and blue for health and armour, it's the spin offs like the episodes, vice city and san andreas that change the colour scheme

 

Made some small changes probably make some more tomorrow when I've got time.

Yeah I agree. Health in Pink and Armor in light Blue. If special abilities return I could see them being in some sort of Neon Green.

It still there in V,yeah it doesnt show the weapons in the top right corner like previous GTAs (3D Era and Pre-GTA5) but it shows the amount of ammo/rounds in the weapons.

I like the bars, but I also like the numbers, so for VI I hope that they put an option for each. Or I'd like them to combine them, looking something like this:

Of course, the bars would need to be made bigger, so that you can read the numbers.

Pretty good concept, but I'd say this would really depend on the location and setting on GTA VI. Pink or lighter colors would be the choice if it's Vice City. I like your idea behind the eye ability. The no weapon icon kinda annoys me. Time ad again, I'm used to looking the screen to see what weapon I'm holding.

During my poop time I thought about the GPS, what if in the next game (supposing that the map is bigger) when we are in the desert, countryside or just very far away from civilization, our HUD starts to spazz out, like it's unable to catch the signal, it would be realistic, obviously if you don't want thte interference effect you could disable it.

Keep GTA V's HUD but with the special ability bar, make it pink and change the health-bar to a bluish-white tint, like how they did with Vice City's HUD (and also similar to TBOGT's HUD)

Saving that for when I finish everything which should hopefully be in a week or two.

Yeah that would be great I originally made this as a post on the GTAV hud thread but I think one of the mods turned it into a full thread so I'll ask one to make the change, nice HUD by the way putting the health to the side is actually a decent idea.

 

@MataJuegos: cool idea I think most people would turn it off though but it give another layer of immersion V did something similar when the radio would change and get fuzzy at certain areas of the map

 

PsychoGamer make it pink and change the health-bar to a bluish-white tint, like how they did with Vice City's HUD.

ArchKnight Pink or lighter colors would be the choice if it's Vice City.

No major changes but it hopefully shows all the important info clearly without taking too much space on the screen. Thanks guys for the feedback hopefully it looks better now.

 

Once again I'd like to see other people's HUD ideas the more creative the better
